Suspicions and Saxophones. [Jinx and Kai Only.]
By: JinxThe Cat Date: July 27, 2018, 4:06 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
[i] Her head was pounding, that hack of a flusey was a much
better fighter than she initially gave her credit for, if her
theoretical mild concussion was anything to go by. No matter she
would be fine soon enough .. she just needed a place to sit and
collect her thoughts, right now she was to out in the open, yes
it was true that the bat was the only one that properly got a
look at her face, but with fennec still unaccounted for she
highly doubted that turning her in would be the priority.
Pathetic really, but in this instance useful. Keeping to the
shadows, the feline kept her momentum going, forced herself not
to slow down, however much her bones weighed down with new found
exhaustion now that the adrenaline from the job was beginning to
wear off. His head poking out of her pocket, ‘ever
helpful’ her voodoo doll spoke up, bluntly. [b]
“Mistress you’re not going to be any help to us both
if you end up passing out, and halted off to a jail cell because
you didn’t think this thr-“[b] Her tone sudden and
sharp, she cut him off. [b]“Shut it Boogie. I’m not
passing out, we’re not heading to some cell, what’s
happening here is we’re improvising.”[b] [b]"Yeah
improvising poorly..” [b] [mumbling.]
This time choosing to ignore her minion, Jinx took a couple of
aimless corner turns, before she finally stumbled across a place
that looked like it would be halfway decent for her to take
shelter in. Now ordinarily bars weren’t her scene, but she
held a large amount of appreciation for jazz music as a genre,
and admired those who had the bravery and talent to preform and
play publicly. Ears flickering, Jinx was lured towards the
establishment by the sounds of soft smooth jazz instrumental,
the beat was rhythmic infectious it .. made her feel a little
less dragged down, which was an achievement given her
circumstances, and crap day in general. Following the sounds,
she wandered into the building, taking in her surroundings. For
starters while the music was pleasant to listen to, the
surroundings lacked in meeting her expectations. Instead of
sleek velvet walls, and hard wood floors, she was met with
questionably stained carpet, and a damp smell that lingered
thickly in the air.
No wonder the place was bare for customer attraction. Although
to her that made the place more appealing in its own rough and
wear down way. She wasn’t a people person by any means,
and at least now there was a place that she could come to, and
not have to pretend to be. Somehow managing to drag herself to
the corner of the bar, she sat herself in the far corner,
avoiding eye contact the few that were around, and instead
settling for ordering herself a large ice water, in monotone.
Boogie on other hand, as per usual was far more expressive with
his opinion about their rest stop. [b]“We’re going
to end up catching disease in here.” [b]

Kai's figure sliced a disheveled silhouette from the lights of
the street as she made her way through barely familiar back
alleys. Given her discomfort with children and the like, the
orphanage wasn't really a place she frequented, and thus her
sense of direction was hazy at best. It was made worse by her
need to stay in the backstreets; her messy appearance would
garner attention that she didn't want to deal with, and the
blood caked around the tops of her ears were sure to raise
questions. And so, she was left to her thoughts and the
darkness, only catching light every so often when she would peek
out onto a larger street to get her bearings. A somber mood hung
in the air around her, leaving a distinct bitterness on her
palate. Tonight sucked.
That damn doctor may have given her just enough to make rent,
but part of her wished that she ignored the offer instead. It
wasn't worth the sharp pain at the tips of her ears or the dull
discomfort at the back of her head--the prelude to a torturous
headache. What was his deal anyway? What kind of punk *ss b*tch
is so insecure that he has to toss someone in an elevator shaft
to feel comfortable? She shouldn't be thinking so hard about
problems that weren't her own, but the fact that this grown *ss
man was so disturbed by his own shortcomings was both laughable
and sad. Her mood was bolstered a little bit when she realized
that she was stupid, ugly, lazy, and a loser, but at least she
was able to accept her faults. Did she accept them too easily?
Debatable. Much like a game of dodgeball, it's infinitely easier
to accept what gets thrown at you and sit out. She was a sh*tty
team player.
Bare feet followed an instinctual path while her attention was
untangling the mass of thoughts in her brain, and they brought
her to one of her usual haunts, a dated jazz bar in a seedier
part of town. Mellow tones dragged her inside by her ears, and
the bitterness in her throat was tempted by the idea of her
signature drink. Kaibette let herself enter; she had the cash
and the time, so why not? She earned it. Traveling notes from
the alto sax and piano joined forces, pulling her in with more
strength than the dank and grimy atmosphere had to push her
away. The old bar was equal parts disgusting and nostalgic. It
had survived Eggman's reign and stood as a testament to
Mobotropolis's fortitude. However, the wear was visible and it
had a distinct smell. The quartet playing did well to distract
her from it, though. Their set was one she recognized, and the
song, Take Five, had nostalgic energy that kept her from getting
too grossed out.
She was on her way to her usual spot at the back of the bar when
she caught sight of someone who had taken it upon themselves to
steal her seat. Lips pressed into a thin, annoyed line as she
glanced them over. Something was familiar, but she couldn't
quite place it, so she opted to sit on a stool a couple of seats
over. A nod at the barkeep and several spoken words later, she
was cradling a cola float to nurse her distress. Every now and
again, she would take a fleeting look at the lavender cat, but
she had no intention to interact.

[i]Jinx glanced up instinctively from her ice water when she
felt eyes on her.
However when she glanced up, locking gazes with the individual
that looked all to familiar in the gloom she wished she hadn’t
bothered looking, her own lips setting into a line so thin one
would assume she had just swallowed down pure lemon juice. She
dismissed the other female without any real interest, and went
back to minding her own business, that being her own code for
trying to pretend that she hadn’t just had a sh*t storm of a
day, honestly it was times like these that she severely
regretted her life choices. Dodgy jobs, fighting feds in
bathrooms, shoving doctors down elevator shafts.. when she
pictured herself having a job when younger, all the things she
shamelessly did today, it didn’t match up. Her eight year self
would be appalled at how she’d turned out, not awed or inspired,
just ashamed. She disgusted herself not for her actions, but for
how low she’d sunk. She was supposed to be more than this, her
life was supposed to be better.
Yet here she was camping out in a shoddy jazz bar on a Friday
night, nursing a ‘headache’ that she was about ninety per cent
sure was a mild concussion thanks to the toilet plunged hoochie.
A fresh wave of anger sweeping through her, at the thought of
how her fight with the white furred bat ended, Jinx clenched her
knuckles, so hard she felt herself break skin. She made the
logical choice getting out of there when she did, there was no
point in fighting a pointless battle after all. But that didn’t
do much for her damaged pride, in ordinary circumstances she
wouldn’t have left that bathroom until the Bats blood was
smeared over every inch of the wall, and she was propping up her
corpse as a parting warning for future comers. But things hadn’t
happened that way, she instead opted to not waste her time and
got out of there, it was the smart move, the logical move, the
coward move .. her bitterness settling more and more as the
minutes passed on that last thought, her sliver and crimson hues
flickered upwards, across the room to meet the genets forest
green ones, her irritation growing simply from looking at her,
and now that she had been given a chance to sit and really get a
good look at her she unfortunately confirmed that it was
without a doubt her good for nothing now former job ‘partner’
making no effort to disguise the distaste she held in regards to
her existence, she let her gaze narrow, making sure that she
delivered a look to the other female that could make a fresh
plant wilt.
This was typical here she was thinking that once she left that
Orphanage that she wouldn’t have to set eyes on this incompetent
half assed moron again, and now they were sat across a bar from
each other, admittedly with her looking more worse for wear
herself at that moment, the blood caked around her ears being
the big give away, not that Jinx cared enough to be curious
about how she ended up in such a dishevelled state so what?
she’d gone and gotten herself injured somehow after her less
than valiant exit from the bathroom, such a ‘shame.’ Turning her
attention away from the genet Jinx ignored her, tapping her
fingertips occasionally against the bar top, to keep time to the
music that flooded the muggy atmosphere.

From the moment they had made eye contact, Kaibette had become
acutely aware of the heterochromatic cat's presence. The nasty
glare she received upon getting seated pierced her skin with a
chill no ice could compete with. The ice cream she swirled
around in her glass was warm in comparison. What gives? Whoever
this person was, she had some bad vibes. Even after she felt the
icy eyes look away there was a lingering feeling of dread, and
no matter how many sips she took of the sweet mixture it
wouldn't wash away. Her identity was a mystery, but after
several quick glances, it clicked. Though there wasn't a name to
put to the visage, Kai placed her as the other nobody from
earlier, the shadowy one. Suddenly the bad vibes made sense. Her
train of thought would've traveled further but there was a new
and growing problem.
Rather than instigate anything, the genet preferred to let
things go. Confrontations were not her forte as proven by the
events that transpired earlier that night, but this feline's
tapping was aggravating. Even if it could barely be heard over
the music, the fact that it was even their caught Kai's
attention and pulled her focus away from jazz. Her tolerance had
been maxed out after the song ended, so she turned in her seat
to face the woman. She spoke through gritted teeth.
"Can you stop tapping?"

“Can you stop tapping?”
[i]This was funny, no way was this half witted Genet actually
talking to her. Deadpan as ever Jinx actually decided to play
along with this, glancing over her shoulder prior to looking
back on her direction, she allowed a condescending smirk to
twist across her lips which probably looked down right
unsettling Jinxes shift in expressions were very far and few
after all, allowing a beat maybe two to pass between them, she
spoke, seeming unaffected by the older females attempt to be
intimidating. This girl really didn’t know when to well
leave enough alone which wasn’t her fault. Knowing that
this girl was unfortunately ignorant as she looked, Jinx decided
to give her a ‘friendly’ warning this one time,
besides she’d never tried the none aggressive approach
thing and wanted to see how that went.
Making sure that she continued to drum her fingertips way more
rapidly against the bar counter, [with purposely more force this
time round.] she finally spoke, her tone coming out whispery and
harsh. “No.” Now ordinarily she would of left
things at that, with the reasoning that someone like her
wasn’t worth wasting her time on, but she was already in a
foul mood more so than than usual, and this orange furred misfit
had trodden on her nerves in a very small amount of time.
Leaning forward, so that the other could hear her better, she
made sure her next words sunk in. "I do whatever I want,
whenever I want, and nobody tells me otherwise, especially not a
walking equivalent to scum, lowlife, loser like you, but oh
don’t you worry .. I can see it all over your face,
you’re all to aware of how sad and insignificant your
existence is so of course my refreshing upfront honesty
isn’t going to have an effect or really be news to you, I
just thought I’d hammer in the reminder, that is if the
simplicity of this statement isn't to difficult for you to fully
comprehend." Shrugging, the feline slunk back to her original
position in her seat, taking a satisfyingly smug sip of her
bevarage.

Just what was this woman's problem? Kai understood that the job
they did wasn't exactly a great one, but there was absolutely no
reason for her to be such a b*tch. Still, she tried to keep her
expression neutral, but her annoyance was obvious. Brows
furrowed in confusion and thought for a few moments, trying to
comprehend what had just happened. Keeping her demeanor calm and
tired, she responded, raising her voice to be heard over the
music. "I guess that explains why you're down here in a lowlife
dive after doing a lowlife job with some other lowlifes, hmm?"
Her chin found a comfortable home, cupped in the palm of her
hand as she leaned on the bar, and her brows perked up a bit,
inquisitively.
"I may be scum but at least I'm aware enough to admit it... You,
on the other hand--hmm. Pot, meet kettle." She turned her
attention to the performers for a few measures before
continuing. "If you have so much disdain for us losers, and if
you truly do what you want... Then why are you even here?" She
had to admit, this chick had some gumption. However admirable it
was, her logic still had holes, and Kaibette was content to
point them out. Being called worthless wasn't exactly nice, but
it was blatantly obvious that she was trying to compensate for
something. Overcompensate, really.

[i]She wasn’t wrong, being the truly ironic thing here,
well she was wrong about mostly everything else she said. The
hypocrite implication though she’d give her that partly
anyway, not visually but internally sure. Seeing that it was
clearly a challenge for the genet to adequately conceal her
emotions, prompted an eye brow raise from the lavender cat. Ears
twitching in an attempt to pick up the others voice over the
music, she let her have her say finding it amusing if anything.
Leave it to little miss stop drop and run to completely jump the
gun over what she’d explained. Her condescending manner
still holding firm, she responded smoothly. “You know you
should really learn to think before you speak, that tends to be
helpful for a lot of people.”
That snarky comment polished and out of the way, she continued.
“You’re talking like I’ve gone out of my way
to differentiate myself from you, which in a way I have because
as much you might not think, we’re not the same, you see
your right.. everyone down here are lowlfes, and I did just
finish up a crappy lowlife job, with someone so clearly
painfully out of luck it’s downright pitiful by the way,
I’m here because I unfortunately blend in with the likes
of you all better than I would anywhere else, so there you have
it.” This was odd, she didn't usually speak to other
people let alone for extended periods of time, sure so far she
was only giving the genet closed off answers and rather a lot of
snip, but a conversation was a conversation. "Besides you don't
end as many lives as i do and get the luxury of a life happy and
well spent, being here is more than fitting." The lavander
furred feline barely managed to surpress the bitterness in her
tone, for that last part.

Kaibette couldn't help but chuckle at her words. The thought of
his kitten having the capability to kill people was laughable
and extremely hard to believe. She brought her free hand up to
her mouth and tried to hide her grin, but it was futile. Of
course, this child had been trying to be edgy, right? Still, Kai
kept up with the banter, trying to compose herself. "You should
really learn to watch your tongue, it makes you seem incredibly
insecure. And on that note, if something looks like a duck,
walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and acts like a duck.."
She trailed off on purpose, hoping the silence would indicate
the abductive reasoning and where she was headed. "As long as
you keep running away from the title, it'll keep hunting you
down. You're a lowlife just like the rest of us." Kai took a sip
of her sweet cola before fiddling with the ice cream in the
bottom of the cup.
"You've got some growing up to do."

[i] Catching sight of the genets grin did wonders for further
souring the felines already less than tasteful mood.
“You’ve got some growing up to do.” Very
concrete coming from the cowardly cretin that mostly likely had
never made serious commitments to anything in her lifetime. Not
that she’d expected the likes of her to comprehend her
explanation, but that didn’t make her none subtly hidden
reaction any less annoying. Her own expression still as
inexpressive as she when she’d first walked, in the
lavender feline picked up her glass of water, taking the time to
steadily sip the room temptured liquid, while she fixed together
an appropriate response. [b]“Growing up to do?
That’s funny considering I don’t see any adults
here, but.. i’ll be sure to take heed and get tips should
I ever come across someone that warrants actual authority, I
must say this little lecture has sure been an evening
highlight.” [b]Unable to keep the sarcasm from dripping
off her tongue with each word, Jinx made a mental note that the
insecure comment may have struck a nerve. Cupping a cheek in her
hand, she leaned against the countertop, her tail twitching.
Although the in the moment daydream of her smashing the genets
smug face over and over into the countertop until it saw
crimson, did wonders for soothing her.

The felines words didn't sting as badly as Kai thought they
would. In fact, they didn't sting at all. They only dripped with
the pungent unwillingness to accept one's current situation.
Kaibette licked her lips, letting sweet flavors dance on her
tongue before she spoke again. "I didn't know that you were
blind, sweet pea." A moment passed as she let herself enjoy a
selfish chuckle. Blush pink lips lifted into a genuine, albeit
toothy grin and she continued. "You're just a barrel full of
monkeys, kid. Your parents must've had a fun time raising you.
That, and you must be a total hit at parties." The genet didn't
have a need to be treated with an overwhelming amount of
respect. Everyone was just about equal here, although the fact
that her earlier words pushed a button didn't mean too much. She
was getting roasted in return, so they were even.
