Invisible. [A short Sonya childhood memory.]
By: EternalPeace Date: July 18, 2018, 10:38 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
[i] “Sonya hurry up or we’re going to be late, you
know how your father doesn’t like to be kept
       waiting.”
Cream coloured ears twitching, the young fennec abandoned
grimacing at her horrendous looking formal wear frock, in
response to Elizabeths warning call. Sonya knew all to well that
if she kept Horatio waiting that she would be the only one in
for the short end of the stick today. Taking a slightly shuddery
inhale and exhale, the youngster fixed a carefully cheerful
smile across her lips, purposely masking the inner sadness that
       threatened to overwhelm her.
       “I’m here daddy!”
Having practically leapt two stairs at a time, the fennec landed
in front of her adopted father with a flourish, smiling a smile
that didn’t quite reach her big blue eyes, because she
knew what was coming. Still she tried to continue her mistake
regardless, a small nervous giggle leaving her lips, she
wandered forward to wrap the older male in a cuddle, only to
have him dismissively swat her away at the last second the way
he usually did. Not bothering to glance at her properly, the
duck her a quick once over, but in more of a business accountant
checking for mistakes in the fine print way rather than a father
affectionately admiring his child in the frock that HE insisted
       she wear way.
His dismissive behaviour clenching like a vice around her tiny
heart, Sonya took a couple of respectable steps backwards,
awkwardly smoothing down none existent creases in her dress, her
irises flickering downward, while she faintly listened to her
mother fuss over his suit, and the gradual uproar of the
squabbling between her two younger brothers, but with the way
she was feeling everything else around her faded into more and
more irreverent background noise. She didn’t know how
long she stood there, watching the family that she tried
desperately to be apart of go about their business, without a
care in the world, but it must have been sometime because before
she knew what was happening, Horatio was stood in her line of
sight, tuxedo dressed and looking as immaculately evening ready
as Mobius’s number one doctor could be.
So wrapped up in her own personal haze of self-sorrow, it took
the girl a couple of minutes to refocus properly on what was
being said to her, though when she did she immediately wished
       she hadn’t.
“Why can’t you ever listen to what’s being
said to you, you stupid girl! now do not make me repeat myself,
you’re an embarrassment but we don’t really have a
choice but to take you out with us tonight, so I want you to
keep those ‘abilities’ of yours under wraps alright?
No wandering off, no getting curious, in fact how about we go
you not speaking unless given expressed permission to do so?
..hmph you’re lucky seeing Princess Sally tonight will do
a world of good, a proper example set by a beautiful thriving
young lady now SHE is a credit to how girls your age should be
       acting, you best take heed.”
       “I know I’m an embarrassment daddy .. I’ll
try not to be, i understand.. watch Sally, and no talking unless
       you say.”
Each word a stab through the chest, it took all the young fennec
had to keep herself together, not that they noticed.
       No one ever did.
