Amy nodded to Sonic's response and then she started noticing his
antsy behavior. She blinked at the somewhat offensive "skirt"
question and an explosive laugh escaped her lips. "HA! Where did
that come from?" She asked then held up a hand. "No, no. Don't
answer that. That was rude of me to laugh."
She thought a moment, taking the question and applying it to
herself, as if Sonic was directly asking what SHE liked. "Well,
if she's not the type of girl whose affection can be bought with
the usual annual-getting-laid merchandise, I'd say you got a
good one on your hands. Anyone that puts a price tag on love is
never a wise investment. So, my advise would be to get to know
her, find out what her interests are, what she likes and use
that to your advantage. Like an activity, you too can do
together, or something neither of you has done before, new
experiences on both sides are always good for breaking the ice."
She suggested and shrugged. "Think about it, what are something
things you know about her, if you have more questions than
answers, ask her."
She paused to eat a strawberry then added. "She's probably
looking for something more substantial and lasts longer than
candy or flowers. Virtue, good character traits, honesty, etc.
Don't go overboard and be genuine about it. I know you like to
cut corners and do things fast, Sonic, but though I'm just
guessing here, this girl sounds like she can detect fake a mile
away." Amy brushed a lock of quills out of her face with a hand.
"Quality in anything takes patience, practice, and a whole lot
of effort on both sides. You've got what sounds like a quality
girl on your hands. See what I'm getting at? She looked at him
expectantly, hoping this wasn't going in one ear and out the
other.

He raised an eyebrow at Amy's outburst then going on to listen
to her advice with great care; he was surprised at how grounded
and sound her suggestions seemed. Listening to her worlds Sonic
was genuinely impressed at how well Amy had her head screwed on.
Amy was right about the girl in question not being easily one
over, however her second bit of advice lead to another question.
"Her interests huh? What if these interests are highly illegal
and involve being shot at with seven rail canons at once? Let me
tell you that girl loves her rail canons." Sonic had a big dopey
smile on his face, the same kind Amy use to swoon over him with.
Reflecting on what he just said he made a thinly veiled attempt
to cover his tracks. "At least that's what my friend told me
about her. Personally I don't think the poor smuck has a chance,
I mean if she ever met me well......I tend to have that effect
on women." He bragged secretly tucking away Amy's advice in the
back of his head.

[i] Only letting him get half way through his routine 'i have
that effect on women.' line, a scrunched up napkin from her jean
pocket, hit him squarely on the forehead. Sonya hoped for his
own sake that he was taking Amys surprisingly sturdy advice, by
the horns. Personally she couldn't have given better advice
herself, so there wasn't a lot she was able to add on, beyond
some eye rolling, and a cheeky remark, in another in vain
attempt to keep the blue hedgehogs ego in check.
"Sonic .. you know that tiny voice in the back of your head,
that tells you when you need to stop speaking out loud? i think
your getting to a point where you should start listening it to
again."
Pushing the remains of her second slice of cake away, with
little interest, the fennec popped a strawberry into her mouth.

Amy snorted at the egotistical remark from the blue blur, but
deep in her heart she found that bit of arrogance something to
smile at, she wondered if it was because of his 'way-past-cool'
attitude that a lot of people who were once shy and insecure
used him as a role model and were now making something of
themselves. "Yes yes, Sonic, we all know that you are Mobius's
most eligible bachelor and whatnot." She waved a dismissive
hand. Her sarcastic tone lightly veiled the slight bit of
jealousy she was starting to feel. Rail cannons, huh? Well they
certainly were giant war hammers now were they? Nope. Not in the
slightest.
Amy suppressed the need to find a carton of chocolate therapy
and wallow in self-pity and gave a shrug. "Well, I would
recommend doing activities that we not illegal. I got the
feeling that your friend is like you in some ways. He (or She, I
don't judge.) will always have that feeling in your gut that
tells you to do the right thing. If it becomes serious between
your friend and this girl then she's going to have to make a
choice, or your friend will. The line hasn't been drawn in the
sand, it's been cemented in concrete, and the only way to remove
it is to smash the road altogether. You kinda lose your way
without a road to follow, don't you?" She mused, twirling the
water in the glass like it was wine. She could go for wine,
maybe one of her older friends would be more than happy to
congratulate her new house with a bottle of grenache rose wine.

Sonic glared at Sonya giving an annoyed retort. "The only little
voice I hear in my head is yours; it's a side effect of being
friends with you for this long." Getting comfortable he leaned
forward focusing on Amy she made all solid points but in the end
the heart wants what it wants. Speaking again this time slightly
more apprehensive. "If I'm being honest with you, my gut says I
need to bring her to stand trail before the court of Acorn but
my heart would break in two seeing her locked away like an
animal." Sonic bit his lower lip he couldn't believe he was
actually talking about this openly but it'd been driving him
crazy and who could he trust more than two of his dearest
friends. "You guys have to promise me you won't breath a word of
this to anybody. I haven't told anybody else, not even Tails. I
know she's bad for me but after Sal dropped me like a sack of
potatoes; This girl she just makes me happy yanno?" Looking for
a hypothetical Sonic asked Amy honestly. "What would you do if I
was like Scourge?"

'Well, as long as it's not the death sentence, you could still
visit her in prison.' A bitter thought touched her mind and
tried to go through her lips but she held it back. It would be a
very hurtful thing for her to say, and she didn't want to hurt
Sonic. She would rather be hurting than bring him pain. So she
remained quiet for a moment. The pink hedgehog smiled at Sonic
tenderly when he asked her and Sonya to keep his infatuation
with this mystery criminal woman a secret, and said in a soft
tone. “I won't tell. You can count on me, Sonic.” As you always
have done in the past. If she makes you happy... who am I to
stand in the way of that? Another thing she didn't have the
heart to say out loud.
When Sonic asked her what she would do if he was like Scourge,
she smiled and slipped on the mask of the supportive friend.
“Heh, now would that make me Rosy the Rascal? 'Cause I'd rather
not go through that again.” She grinned then put a finger to her
chin in mock thought. “Well, if suddenly you started acting like
Scourge, I guess... it wouldn't matter.” She shrugged her tone
changing from flippant to sincere. “I'd always believe in you."
After she said this, the joking manner returned and she gave
Sonic a playful punch on the arm. "You can't get rid of me that
easily, Sonic.” Yes, good. Keep it casual, don't let him know
the truth.
Not that he'd really ever notice.
If she was being perfectly honest, when Scourge pretended to be
Sonic all those years ago, he had noticed her and she had liked
it. Maybe I'd be happy. But she couldn't say it out loud.

[i] All teasing about his enormous ego aside, Sonyas own
expression began to shift into something more troublesome, upon
seeing Sonics sudden change of tune. Wandering over to the seat
he was sat in, she perched herself on the arm rest, musing over
her words carefully before she spoke them out loud.
"It's clear that your're struggling to make the decision
between duty and heart .. but y'know in the grand scheme of
things listening to your heart in these circumstances is the way
to go, emotional instincts are purer after all.."
Her soft smile mirroring Amys, she mimed crossing her heart and
shooting herself in the head the minute he brought up keeping
the secret about his mystery crush in question. Giving him
playful nudge, she added.
"Please blue, you know you can trust me with secrets, in
present i know way more about you than i should anyway so what's
one more thing."
The fennec kept up her banter filled tone, just to try and keep
the mood light. But for all her teasing demeanor, it was a worry
seeing Sonic being so unsure of himself. He was usually more in
control when it came to making decisions that he knew was for
the better. She wasn't used to this antsy unsure state of
hedgehog. And as for Amy as impressive a front as it was, it
didn't go amiss to Sonya that having Sonic sit and confess his
romantic feelings about another woman, was a difficult pill for
her to swallow. And yet for the sake of Sonics happiness she was
holding together immaculately she'd give her that. Listening to
the question that Sonic posed, Sonya hoped the pair of them
wouldn't mind her chiming in on that.
"If you started acting like Scourge god help me.. your ego
would be unbearable. but regardless you'd still be the same
annoying, lovable friend i've always had, only .. extra in all
senses."

Sonic ruminated on what they had said, he was in an oddly
reflective mood as his heart and head were at war. He could tell
both the girls were concerned about him yet chose to lead with
support in place of judgemental criticisms; as the conversation
went on their boisterous, buddy-like behavior reassured Sonic he
was doing the right thing. He couldn't help himself he'd never
felt this way about a woman before; even if she was trying to
kill him. Taking a glance to both Amy and Sonya he stood with a
confident smile. "I'll do it! I'll date a cannibalistic, serial
killer!" Sonic took a moment to listen to what he just said
allowed and shook his head at the thought of it all. "Yanno
saying that out loud makes me sound like I'm nuts; well they say
love makes you do crazy things." He shrugged offering a carefree
grin before pulling both Amy and Sonya in for a tight hug.
"Comere you two. Amy, you've grown into a really wise woman,
thanks for the advice. And I'm not gunna forget my favorite
doctor; you're both a great pal and a giant pain in my ass." He
pulled Sonya's cheek closer offering a big playful kiss as he
was getting energetic. Taking a more respectful approach with
Amy he gently took her hand in his lightly kissing it before
releasing his grip.
Placing his hands on his hips he looked back to them positively
ecstatic. "I know two girls who are getting really nice birthday
presents this year......Yanno what? Screw waiting, early
birthday presents!" Sonic shot off out of Amy's house only to
return seconds later with handfuls of shopping bags. He set down
a bunch of pink bags before Amy, they contained designer dresses
from high-end boutiques with matching shoes and clutches. He
then proceeded to drop pastel blue bags in Sonya's lap, inside
they were filled with clothing from that casual girls store she
liked along with a few odds and ends like her favorite ice-cream
and a VHS copy of film they enjoyed as children. He smiled
giving a two fingered salute and a playful wink to his frazzled
friends. "Well you gals enjoy. I've got some things to take care
of. Happy house warming Amy; I'll catch you guys later." And
with that Sonic dashed out the door and had vanished from sight;
it appears then that hedgehog made up his mind he was set, the
lavish gifts showed how much he valued his friends support.

Amy's ears pinned back against her head in irritation at the
loud declaration of dating a murdering psychopath, this was of
course because of the volume and nothing else... right. The pink
hedgehog could not hold back the 'eep' when suddenly she was in
Sonic's arms. Well, technically it was one arm and Sonya being
squished against her side was not exactly comfortable, yet Amy
relished in the close contact in spite of how soon it was over.
She blushed at the compliment towards her maturity and said
softly. “A-Anytime.”
Her attempts at maintaining her composure were sadly for naught
and that was when Sonic took her gently by the hand and placed a
kiss on the dorsum. Her body froze and she didn't snap out of
her shock until Sonic sped out of the house and returned with
bags she recognized that logo anywhere. She gasped. “Vera Wolf??
B-But it-it's not November-” Her bare hint of a whisper was
drowned out by Sonic's announcing his farewell and blurring
away.
Amy blinked once and then twice for good measure, suddenly she
found herself blinking back tears. “Ah... e-excuse me, Sonya.”
She said quickly as she turned and headed quickly to the
washroom. Once the door was closed and locked she shook her head
as she tried to stop the small quiet sob that escaped her lips.
Why? Why did he make is so hard to be indifferent? Couldn't she
just be happy to be his friend? Amy looked down at the hand he
had kissed and pressed the back of her hand to her lips. She too
had her inner battle between her heart and her gut.
She took a deep calming breath as she willed herself to stop
weeping like some pathetic school girl, she was a career woman
now, she had to grow up. And she had a guest to entertain.
Exiting the bathroom, she made her way back to the sitting room
and smiled at Sonya, her face was without a trace of her prior
emotional hiccup. “Whew, that chili dog was a bit spicier than I
realized.” She played it off on crude biology and opened one of
the pink bags. “Really, he didn't need to do this, it really is
too much for simple advise.” She commented, pulling out one of
Vera Wolf's evening dresses and held it against her body,
running her hand over the expensive maroon fabric. She couldn't
help smiling as she checked the size. Sonic had gotten it right.
"The dummy..." She murmured affectionately under her breath.

[i] Of all the things Sonya had expected to hear Sonic say
having him proudly announce that he was going to date a
cannibalistic, serial killer wasn't the highlight of her day.
Sky blue eyes widening, she'd barely had a moment to properly
process the bold statement, only to bundled into a hearty one
sided embrace, by the idiot himself. Try as she might to play it
cool, feelings she was still new to squishing down, briefly
resurfaced causing her cheeks to flush a deep red and for her to
enjoy the short cuddle way more than a so called younger sibling
should have. Even so she managed a weak sassy retort in response
to his Sonic brand of compliment on her end.
"P-Psh .. and don't you forget it! i'm a pain you'd be lost
without!"
Her comfortable nature coming out around the male, she forgot to
filter herself in the moment for the sake of their extra
company, so the second he'd pulled her cheek closer to plant an
affectionately sloppy cheek kiss, she'd batted him off without
even really trying, loud laughter battling its way through her
lips.
"Arg you moron!"
The three words filled with so much affection, she was so stupid
allowing herself to momentarily get sucked in.
However short lived their little moment was, Sonya was all to
aware that it made her the kind of giddy that she'd been working
so hard to fix. she needed to get it together. Of course that
was easier said than done, when Sonic was back in a flash
bearing presents. The first thing she noticed being the VHS copy
of film they enjoyed as children. She was touched, it had been
years since they watched this, and yet he still remembered it
like they'd only watch it yesterday.
Allowing Amy a moment to compose herself, Sonya did likewise for
the few minutes she was left on her own, first and foremost she
focused on steadying her breathing, and then secondly giving
herself a mental slapping. She was supposed to be moving
forwards now, pining after her childhood best friend wasn't
going to get her anywhere, why on earth did he have to be break
out into being all adorable?! and he called her the annoying
one.
Knowing fully well that her needing a breather had was more than
merely chili dog related, she opened her mouth to question
further, only to change her mind last minute. She knew that a
lot of the time the most respectful thing that could be done for
a person was to talk to them and acknowledge their feelings in
full. But this felt more like the time to look the other way,
for someone that was trying so hard to save face for prideful
reasons, Sonya didn't want to be the cause of shattering all
she'd built up. The reason she was able to see through this
woman was because she'd under gone years of training to be able
to do so, you didn't get far in a medical profession without
being able to connect with and mobians and look beyond the
surface. It was strange thinking about how if she wasn't
trained, she'd be none the wiser to how much the pink hedgehog
was fighting to keep herself together. Offering up a soft yet
quite openly empathetic smile, the fennec spoke softly, offering
the pink furred one a fresh tissue from her jacket pocket, as
she did so.
"Oh no worries Amy chili dogs can get the best of anyone."
Her ears flickering at her affectionate use of the words the
dummy, she'd let a not so subtle giggle escape her lips.
"He really is the worst isn't he? but then being over the top
has always been his thing."
