Double Dinner (Sonic,Shadow,Umi, & Sonya)

It had been a long and crazy day for the group that Sonic had
built up over the course of his afternoon. With all the events
that transpired Sonic was relived as his backside touched down
on the padded seats of a well lit booth. The foursome had
decided on dinner at the finest barcade in town, it was
essentially a rustic bar crawling with retro arcade machines.
The interior was a hardwood floor and an oak bar, the entire
space being illuminated dim lighting and the glow of the games
that beeped away in the far corners of the establishment. Sonic
still couldn't believe he was about to share a meal with Shadow
but it didn't feel right for him to leave his enemy out the
assistance he provided today.
Parking at a table he looked to the others before whooshing past
them placing menus in their hands. "Order anything you like
tonight guys, it's on me. I bet we could all use a decent a feed
after that fiasco huh?" Not that he'd ever admit it but Sonic
was tired drained both physically and mentally, between
Shadow,Scourge and worst of all Sally his mind needed a relaxing
break. "I'll pay for the food but I hope you all brought coins
for the games, I don't carry and shrapnel, gets in the way while
running." While Sonic didn't like Shadow and was annoyed that
Umi had tried to drown him earlier that day he also showed he
trusted them as he had let his guard down.

[i] Sonya was sure that, the others was feeling just as drained
as she was right now. With everything that happened, it was all
still very much processing in her mind, from Sonic and Shadows
fight, to the mess of the coffee house destruction, and then
finally the green hedgehogs unexpected departure. Now it wasn't
that she didn't think the criminal was undeserving of the fate
he received, after all he was the cause of a lot of grief for
the Freedom Fighters in the past, and various stories that
Sally, Bunnie,and the rest of the team told her about the
hedgehogs schemes before she properly joined them was far from
agreeable in her eyes. It was just the way it happened, was
difficult for her to adjust to, luckily she was a lot more
emotionally grounded than she used to be, and her training
helped in masking her emotions outright, but the urge to curl
up, and just erase the past couple of hours from her head was
strong and she still felt like she wanted to cry. Among
everything else, she felt bad, that she hadn't automatically ,
asked Sally to come along, still it wasn't an entirely wrong
footed move, they'd had quite enough tension for one day.
Only just managing to tune into Sonics hearty offer, she offered
up a thin smile that didn't quite meet her blue hues.
"That's nice of you Sonic, but i don't really have much of an
appetite at the moment, a Coke will do."
She wasn't going to elaborate on the reason for her lack of
appetite, but it wasn't going to be difficult to connect the
dots. Regardless of the dreary mood threatening to loom over
them, she still wanted them all to try and have fun. So
producing her coin purse, she took a peak inside, seeing that
while she didn't have a load of coins on hand, she still held
enough petty cash, to get them through a handful of decent
machines. Closing her purse, she turned her head slightly
towards Umi, her attempted smile still in place.
"I.. have a few coins Umi, if you need any extra."
Pausing for a beat, the female allowed her ears to half droop,
as she placed her hands in her lap.
"Er.. when everyone knows what they want to order, tell me and
i'll go up and order.."

Shadow arriving much later than the others, parked a chair
across from Sonic and Sonya, as usual he folded his arms
sporting his trademark poker face, stern eyes observed his
surroundings momentarily stared at the series of arcade games.
He watched people insert coins into the machines to play the
game of their choice, that explains the purpose of those coins.
"Coffee beans" his attention is darted to Sonya making a
request, short and straight to the point.
He promised he will meet his arch rival here to have dinner with
his friends, personality he would rather complete assignments
for the government or tend to his own business affairs. In truth
the reason he tagged along is to monitor Sonic's behavior, to
keep him in check from doing anything out of character.

Umi was along for the ride as the pair of girls settled down in
a somewhat melancholic state. There were so many events that
occurred today that were either frighteningly reflective (such
as almost drowning Sonic) to trying to prevent the
marketplace--heck, the whole town--from completely crumbling
down due to all the male hedgehogs' "fighting boners" (or, at
least that's how a "friend" of her's described their
tendencies). Maybe by the night's end the water 'hog will earn
genuine acquaintanceship or maybe even a friendship...
"I.. have a few coins Umi, if you need any extra."
Jolted from her thoughts, Umi smiled pensively before shaking
her head. "No thanks, Sonya, but thanks. It's really kind of
you," she replied graciously before stood up abruptly and
bursting with a fumble of words. "Oh, uh, I would like to just
grab a London fog latte--I'll go give the specifics on it at the
register, so....I guess I'll come too, then, Sonya." Up and
ready to go, she went over to stand next to Sonya, honestly
unsure what would transpire if she was stuck with Shadow
suddenly all alone or what awkwardness would ensue if she stuck
around Sonic by herself...

Sonic chuckled at Shadow's request as he clenched his fist while
lowering his voice attempting to mimic Shadow. "Don't you mean
you mean[shadow=red,left] I'll take it black, like my
heart!"[/shadow] Clearly amused by his own playful antics he
couldn't help but notice the girls tended to flock together
leaving him with Shadow. Sonic looked over to the black hedgehog
who was clearly unamused by his joke and spoke so quietly the
girls wouldn't hear. "Look thanks for the hand today, I'm not
letting you off the hook for that business with Infinite but I
appreciate the assist with whoever that green loser was; But
what a way to go, vaporized from space. Not that the twit didn't
deserve it but I can't help but wonder what coulda done that?
The Death Egg has been offline for weeks and Eggman couldn't get
to it without us noticing. What do you think is going on? Any of
that secret intel to share?" He asked inquired placing his hands
on the table as he leaned forward.
The girls didn't have to wait long until a cheery bunny in a
frilly apron took their orders and presented them with whatever
they desired. She had a strangely judgemental look upon her face
as she dropped a bag of coffee beans onto their tray with the
rest of the normal orders. The night was young and their were so
many games to play as they got to know each other over drinks;
there were fighting,dancing,fishing,shooting,racing and even
skill crane games, all waiting for the hedgehogs and fox to
enjoy.

[i] Sonya couldn't help but feel thankful for the temporary
distraction that getting up to get refreshments provided. being
left alone with Shadow wouldn't have been the most gracious
start to her night, with her track record with strangers not
being a great generally, but with the individual who was the
very cause of so much pain and misery for so many mobians, it
was almost to much, and she knew she'd have to watch herself
this evening or she would snap without question. And as for
making small talk with Sonic, for a change she actually didn't
feel like talking to him beyond pleasantries either, and to make
things worse, she knew he'd want to. Her thoughts felt like a
complicated whirlwind. She just wasn't quite sure what to focus
on first, and not having a handle on things distressed her. On
top of someone dying today, there was the marketplace to think
about, sure her and Umi managed to prevent damage control for
most part, but what if civilians was still panicking about
everything?, they'd literally just started rebuilding the city,
and thanks to Sonic and Shadow it'd almost come crumbling down
instantly. Her ears drooped moderately at the idea.
The bunny waitress the centre of her attention, she assured a
amicable smile was spread across her muzzle. Although the
slightly judgement look that passed her features upon request
for coffee beans alone, didn't go unnoticed by her. Picking the
tray up carefully, she turned towards the direction of the
table, only to pause, to speak Umi.
"Hey, um .. i'm really glad you came along tonight, i don't
think i would of held out half as well alone."

Indeed Shadow is unamused listening to a poor imitation of his
own voice, rather than speaking about his antics he raised one
eyebrow. When the two ladies left to register their orders
leaving the boys alone, he half expected an insult flung at his
expense, instead in a strange turn of events that subtly
surprised Shadow, Sonic genuinely started a conversation with
the brooding individual that didn't trigger his fight for flight
response for once.
"So I'm not the only one, he did seem more...passive than usual,
too late to do anything about it now" to him all Scourge's are
the same no matter where they came from. His order arrived
prompted the ultimate lifeform to chuck a single coffee bean in
his mouth, the bitter taste of the treat meld on his tongue,
just the way he likes it.
"Our intelligence division has been tracking Eggman's
whereabouts for weeks after he disappeared, we haven't found any
clues so far" he popped another coffee bean in his mouth,
chewing much quicker than the first. "That being said, if that
laser strike came from the sky, I'll report it so they can check
it out," he reassured.

The blue wetsuit-wearing hedgehog looked up from swirling her
newly acquired earl grey tea with milk (aka. London fog latte)
to look at the fennec fox rather tentatively...at least at
first. Being one to not really have very much faith in her own
abilities, it was nice to hear from someone that they
appreciated her efforts--despite how small they may be. It
wasn't like Umi was particularly the greatest at controlling her
powers quite yet (considering her current track record), but if
she can make baby steps towards using her powers for good with
the help of someone beside her then it will be worth it.
Smiling a bit obviously now, Umi nodded at the other girl with
more confidence. "Yeah, I am happy to come along, as long as
you're here." It took a moment of silence to realize how that
must've come out, but she didn't know if she should awkwardly
deny it or just go along with it. She surprisingly decided the
latter and moved on. "Anyway, it's good to have someone in on
this whole ordeal. I cannot imagine going back to that table to
face all..." Umi pointed over in the boys' general direction,
she trailed off before dully adding, "...that." Clearing her
throat, she moved along. "Anyway, then again, maybe we should go
over there in case they decide to fight again. Duty calls as
always for mediators like us, 'know what I mean?" She added as
casually as possible, taking much from her moth--friend. There
was much she needed to learn from her...and from her own past
mistakes, recent or not.
Leading them along back over to the table, Umi helped distribute
the drinks amongst the four of them from the tray Sonya was
holding before turning to Sonic. "Hey, so...about all of that
earlier..." she gestured with a sweeping motion to a random
side, "I'm still really sorry for what I almost did to you...so
I wanna make it up to you somehow. Is there anyway I could repay
you for not insta-killing me back then or now...or yet?" She
finished more quietly and rather sheepishly than when she
started, utterly aware that the other two probably had no idea
what she was even talking about, one; two, the fact that Sonic
could've been just distracted with the whole Shadow and Scourge
thing to pay attention to his revenge on her yet; and/or three,
she's just embarrassing herself right now and there's nothing
else to it.

Sonic nodded upon Shadow sharing the news of Eggman's activities
while simultaneously cringing at Shadow grinding raw coffee
beans between his teeth. Shuddering his ears perked up hearing
Umi apologize, his tone was understanding as he responded. "Umi,
relax real heroes never kill and if I held a grudge against
everybody who almost offed me, do you think I'd be sharing lunch
with Mr. Sparkling personality over there?" He asked gesturing
towards Shadow before taking a sip of his cola. Honestly Sonic
was growing tired of seeing the girls look like sad bags of
anxiety and decided to change that. "You wanna pay me back you
gotta do two things. The first thing I want you to do is to
train hard to focus those powers, the second thing I want you to
do is come dance with me." The blue hero grabbed Umi's wrist
dragging her over to the Dance Party Remix machine, he dropped a
coin he'd snagged from Sonya into the slot and jumped onto the
game pad. He closed his eyes with his back to the screen,
lightly tapping his foot as the music started. Then the beat
dropped and the game began.
"Player One, show us what you got!" The dancing game's speakers
sang out. Arrows on screen came flying up the monitor and Sonic
easily matched the directions with his feet, hitting each arrow
with perfect timing. With a satisfied smile he leaned back
against the metal bar the game had and gestured towards the
orange hedgehog as her turn came up. "Player Two, let's shoot
for that high score! READY OKAY!" Arrows came flying up Umi's
side of the screen and the dance pad flashed waiting for her to
get her groove on.
Seeing she was hesitant Sonic tapped his foot while placing his
hands on his sides. "I'm waaaaaaiting." He belted out expecting
her to get a move on. "Come on, get the lead out girl."

The fennec knew exactly what she meant. the means to
diplomatically negotiate was never done. And she would be damned
if those two ignorant hogs thought they was going to even
consider round two on her watch. Not even bothering to fix her
usually formed perky smile on her muzzle, the female settled for
a cool look of indifference, the joyous gleam to her blue irises
unusually absent. Unaware, she was gripping the tray so tightly
that her knuckles had turned an unnerving pigment of white.
After helping Umi divide up the remaining drinks, prior to
Shadow taking the coffee beans she'd taken an uncharacteristic
move, letting her passive aggression get the best of her, she
waited until after the black hedgehog was finished eating to
toss the bean packet at him, as if she was flinging something
she wanted to discard, and that the coffee packet touching her
fingertips was painful. Anyone that made a comparison to her and
her father now certainly would of seen the similarities between
her and the well known Duck. Down to the no nonsense expression,
just to the way she overall presented herself. The kindness that
she'd extended to Umi, only mere moments ago was no where to be
seen, as she settled herself slowly back into her seat,
adrenaline working its way through.
Cupping one hand around her soda, she drummed her free
fingertips soundlessly against the table, attempting to channel
her inner fury into something else for the rest of the evenings
sake, not that it was working. Although Sonics well timed
distraction did get a slight turn of her head. if there was one
thing he liked doing best, it was showing off his gaming
'superiority.'
