The Repercussions Of Chaos
By: EternalPeace Date: March 14, 2018, 9:37 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The aftermath the rebellion had caused, was every bit as brutal
as the female thought that it would be even a month later. Of
course the cream colored vixen had never possessed any doubts as
far as who was going to emerge victorious in the grand scheme of
things, but still receiving the news that the hero they all knew
and loved, the hedgehog she possessed not to secret feelings
for, was not only captured but it was more than obvious from his
visible injuries that'd he'd been tortured relentlessly for the
months he'd been taken from them, and seeing him in such a state
at the time it had taken the fennec a good majority of her
willpower to stay composed whilst she'd tended to what she
could, to make sure that the blue furred male made a swift
recovery.
But even so she couldn't help the emotions that bottled ever
since her and the rest of the resistance had managed to rescue
him, that faithful day, what on earth had he been thinking
deciding that he would be able to take down the threat by
himself? he could have gotten himself- she couldn't even let
herself get that far. She was so relieved that everything turned
out okay in the end, well as okay as things could be,
considering the amount of tension that still hung sufficiently
in the air, especially throughout the hospital environments
throughout the city. And as the only active freedom fighter
currently in the city, the pressure seemed to be more on for
her more than ever, to not only try and keep the peace between
gradually hysterical patients but being the newest freedom
fighter knowing how to handle lots of emotions running high was
simply expected of her, it went without saying that a lot of the
general public still feel that she's not to up to the standard
of the rest of the resistance, not that she could blame them,
they were right she wasn't yet but she'd been assigned to the
resistance for a reason, and wherever people agreed with the
decision or not she felt that she deserved to be there.
So with this in mind, she tried not to let her insecurities
weigh down on her to much, as she thought about what Princess
Sally [ Freedom Fighter Leader] had said to her before a
unanimous vote had been put, to decide that Sonya would be much
more suited heading back to the city to lend her expertise to
the hospitals, instead of staying on to help the rest of them.
-Flash Back-
"Don't take this personally Sonya.. we're not sending you back
to the city because we don't need you out here, we're sending
you back because they're mobians that need you more at the
moment, okay?"
"Sure Sally.."
___
Ignoring the further sinking feeling in her chest, the female
focused her efforts on tending to her next set of patients,
heads turning as she strolled into yet another ward, filled with
many suffering with slow painful recoveries, she was greeted by
an unimpressed and ever sour looking Dr Quack, saying that she
found him intimidating would be an understatement, and on his
end of things her senior had made it blatantly clear from the
day they were introduced, that he did not think much of her, let
alone considered her an equal in the medical field, which got
under her skin more than his personal petty dislike. Sure he was
one of the best medical experts in Mobotropolis and not to
mention the royal physician, but should that have given him the
licence to treat her like she was nothing more than gum under
his shoe? no.
"Late again,Miss Heart, clearly time keeping is among the many
skills you lack."
Resisting the urge to flinch, the fennec fixed a polite smile
across her muzzle, before responding.
"Good afternoon, Dr Quack sorry for keeping you waiting, i-it
won't happen again."
"See that it doesn't fox, or they'll be trouble .. i already
told the rest of them that i didn't need HELP but oh no they
just had to send.."
Tuning her grouchy elder out, the female focused her attention
on the patient at hand, it was the usual fractures, broken
bones, exhaustion reproductions, nothing she couldn't take care
of, well something she'd take care of a lot better if she'd had
a bit more peace and quiet, but with her 'lovely' mentor around
quiet was a luxury she wasn't getting for awhile.

Sonic was beyond annoyed that one of the rookies from The
Resistance had dragged him back to the city interrupting his
well earned vacation on top of almost drowning him, however
since he was in the area he decided to pay a visit to the one
little fennec fox that played a vital role in his recovery. He
walked down the winding hallways of the hospital while poking
his head into random rooms giving friendly waves to the
starstruck patients he crossed. He started to zip around at a
great speed growing impatient with walking, he flew from one
room to the next grasping a neatly wrapped present in his left
hand. Hearing a disgruntled duck Sonic skidded to a stop peaking
into the room he'd just passed and surely enough inside was Dr.
Quack and the very person he'd been looking for. With a smug
smirk he let himself in sizing the doctor up. "You're being
awfully hard on somebody who basically played a vital role in my
recovery. She may be a little inexperienced but her beside
manner is second to none and I've never seen such a fearsome
field medic. She really cares about her patients and hasn't
grown bitter like you. Pay no attention to this old quack, he
once tried to x-ray my head with a modified toaster." Sonic
snickered playing with his damaged ear, how he got this wound
was something he didn't like to talk about but he was grateful
that Sonya was able to prevent hearing loss on that side of his
head.
He cleared his throat holding out a white box with blue ribbon
tied around it. "I was back in the city taking care of some
Freedom Fighter stuff so I wanted to stop by and say thank you
properly. While I don't like to admit it, my bacon woulda been
cooked if not for you and the others. I really appreciate all
the little things you did to make me more comfortable, like the
extra pain killers you snuck me after hours." Sonic said with a
wink before handing her the present. "Go on open her up." He
said offering a rather uncharacteristically goofy smile.

It was no surprise that she'd heard him before she saw him, the
faint sounds of excited commotion coming from other wards,
played a large part in being a give away sign. Not to mention
their patients hadn't sounded this enthusiastic without probable
cause in months. So her smile spreading quickly across her
muzzle, she turned briefly away from her patient, to take in the
scene at hand, as much as she didn't want to sass her superior
seeing Sonic take him down a peg on her behalf did nothing to
lessen the butteries developing in her stomach. His compliments
about her skills only further enhanced that oh so familiar giddy
feeling, that tended to go on autopilot whenever she was around
him. Not aware that a deep red flush was working its way across
her muzzle, the words 'fearsome field medic' especially rang to
mind. He actually viewed her as fierce? she could have pinched
herself! or fainted, or both, but that probably wasn't a good
idea.
Shooting his idiot apprentice a glare, the elder turned his
attention to the sudden and not entirely welcome appearance for
the blue blur.
"Inexperienced is putting it lightly, that girl is virtually
INCAPABLE, and it's a wonder that she managed to do anything for
you in the first place, and i'll have you know that i'm not
bitter, simply realistic and given the injured parties happened
to go up significantly after so many rushed to your aid .. well
i hope your'll forgive me if your face isn't the one i want to
see at the moment, Heart wrap this nonsense up, i'm going to
check on another patient in a different ward, i want you [
glaring at Sonic ] gone by the time i return."
Her ears drooping half way, the females boost at unexpectedly
seeing her crush, was dashed just as easily by her seniors harsh
words. Though seeing Sonic look so goofy and earnest did help
soften the internal blow.
"Sonic you really didn't have to get me anything i .. don't know
what to say."
She genuinely didn't, sure she was used to being appreciated,
the rest of the Freedom Fighters were nothing but respectful and
always acknowledged her abilities, but at the same time she just
wasn't used to being praised in this sort of way.
Taking the gift from his hands, she opened it with trembling
fingertips, her sky blue irises widening at what she saw, and
before she could get herself under control, she felt the tears
begin to roll her down her cheeks.
"W-Why did you get me this?.. i .. i don't deserve this."
The pain she felt from hearing the genuineness in her voice from
the statement was effortlessly raw.

As soon as the doctor turned his back and walked out of the room
Sonic rolled his eyes and flipped the duck the bird, quickly
hiding the impolite gesture behind his back the second Quack
turned around with a glare. Shaking his head Sonic gestured out
towards the hallway asking Soyna. "What crawled up his ass and
died?" He inquired honestly puzzled as most of the patients were
happy to see him. Sonic was never one to be pushed around
especially when he thought he was right he could be quite
thoughtless. As she pulled off the ribbon and opened the box she
would find a sterling silver stethoscope. Sonic had experienced
her passion for the medical field first hand thought a doctors
implement would inspire her to shoot for her goals. The moment
she started crying Sonic got nervous, he bit his lower lip
suddenly wondering what he did wrong. "What did I do wrong!? I
thought she'd like it. Way to go idiot you made her cry." He
chastised himself standing on the tips of his toes trying to
think of what to do. "Why are all these rookies so emotional?
Umi tried to drown me and Sonya is freaking out......." These
questions ran through his mind as he held out his hands
desperately trying to explain himself. "I thought you'd like it,
honestly. When you were helping me out you always spoke about
how one day you wanted to be the best in your field. I thought
yanno stethoscope, doctor........Did I mess something up? Ugh
Lemme guess the idiot at the engraving place got your name
wrong? I told him Dr. Heart!" Sonic took a closer reading the
inscription that read, To the future Doctor Heart, you helped me
through a hard time and I hope this aides you in helping many
more. Sonic's ears started to droop as he looked to his
sneakers. "I'm sorry kid, I thought you'd like it."

Seeing Sonic make such a dangerous gesture behind her mentors
back, she couldn't help but slap a hand over her muzzle, to
muffle a soft uncharacteristic giggle, after all it was hardly
within her nature to encourage rebellious impulsive behavior,
but given the not so constructive criticism that her elder had
been plying her with today, she figured she could let this slide
the one time. His question not catching her by surprise in the
least she nibbled her bottom lip a tad anxiously, whilst placing
both her arms self consciously behind her back.
"I'm really sorry about Dr Quack he.. i'd love to tell you that
he's not usually like this, but if anything hes just gotten
worse from having me assigned to assist him, it's probably not
personal or at least that's what i tell myself anyway .. "
Watching her tears drip onto the stethoscope, the female peered
up at the hedgehog she was still getting know, and learning to
admire more as time went on. The sight she saw practically
squeezed the remaining oxygen from her lungs, he was looking
uncertainly at his sneakers ears drooping, and he was actually
apologizing to her? in what world wouldn't she have liked such a
considerate, thoughtful, caring, personal gift, from such a
dreamboat! not that she was going to say all of this out loud,
but she was going to set this right. Taking a small inhale and
exhale, she steadied her tone before she spoke, taking a tiny
step closer to the blue hero.
"Sonic your're not understanding, i'm not crying because i don't
like it, i'm crying because i'm overwhelmed.. and i'm just not
used to being acknowledged in this way, and the last mobian i
expected to give me recognition on this level was you, and i
mean that in the nicest possible way, i mean.. i'm not like the
rest of you after all i'm still learning the ropes and i'm a
sideline member at the moment.. i'm not supposed to be
acknowledged like this, and yet you have, so thank you."
Her large ears standing tall on her head, her smile resurfaced,
far less timid than usual.

Hearing her explanation the blue hero breathed a sigh of relief
blinking his blue eyes repeatedly. "Oh in that case no worries
I'm glad you like it. Nah I think you sell yourself too short, I
mean look at me, Fastest Thing Alive, greatest hero on the
planet and twelve time chilidog cook off champion. Don't be
afraid to brag about your skills only people who give you grief
about it are narcs." He paused for a moment thinking to himself
before speaking again. "Like Sal."After grumbling something to
himself he carried on. He rubbed his arm pulling the curtain
closed so nobody could hear. "Look the things Robotnik did to me
while I was up there......It was rough.....You helped me though
that and that means a lot. Prevented hearing loss in my busted
up ear made sure I was comfortable, you may not think it but
that meant a lot. I hope you don't mind but I gave Tails your
details encase anything ever happens to him." Changing his tone
from honest and somber to straight up playful he nudged Sonya in
the side before saying. "Hey it's a tip if Ol Quack ever gives
you a hard time again feel free to bring up the blue bang of
1999. Turned out he mixed the wrong chemicals and turned
everybody in the entire ward blue! I still have he headline
floating around somewhere in my draw back home." Sonic snickered
before tapping his sneaker looking around the room. "So all
these poor guys got pretty badly banged up huh? Well you're in
goods hands fellas." Sonic shouted getting the rest of the ward
to cheer back with some hollering thrown in for good measure.
Taking a last look at the little fox the hedgehog gestured
towards the exit. "Well it's been real but I should probably jam
before your boss comes back. He made it pretty clear he doesn't
want me here."

Again with the cheeky attitude!
The female wasn't surprised as such, she'd spent more than
enough time around him to be immune to his attractive wit. But
all the same she couldn't help with sprout a small grin, she
secretly agreed that her mentor definitely classed under the
heavy title of narc if that statement was anything to go by.
Listening intently to his confession, caused her heart to
plummet alarmingly, though she kept her expression perfectly
neutral. Hearing him suddenly so serious, now that really did a
number on tugging on her heart strings, and with her sense of
empathy being a strong one, she fought inwardly to keep her more
prominent emotions at bay. Having been the one to treat each of
his injuries in turn, she was one of the rare few that did
actually know what he'd been submitted to whilst captured all
those months ago, and once properly processed she'd spent many a
night crying her heart because of empathy alone.
Accidentally letting her professional demeanor slip, she found
herself reaching out to rest her hand on his shoulder, her tone
timid but entirely sincere.
"You mean a lot to me ..[midway through realizing she'd said
that one out loud Dx o_o ] t-to me and the rest of the team, i'd
do it all again if you needed me to, i.. i'm just so glad
your're alright."
She could feel the emotion building up in her voice again, no
matter how much she tried to down play it.
"O-Of course i don't mind that you gave my details you know i'm
always open to helping anyone who needs it."
Mustering a small grin, at the story about Dr Quacks slip up,
she mentally stashed the story away for later, no doubt she was
going to a ace dealing with that old crank.
Her grin slipping almost as as it'd appeared, the female like
the disappointment flicker across her pretty features.
"He may not but.. i .. i do .. do you have to go so soon?"
She knew that she was sounding needy and unprofessional but
seeing him after he'd just disappeared the second he was back to
fighting fit was more than she could take.

"Well I'd hate to keep you from your work but I'm back in the
city for a couple of hours. Tell you what when you get off come
find me and we'll catch up. I'm mostly out by my Uncle Chuck's
lab or Tails workshop. Well I'll see ya around." He said
flicking a two fingered salute before vanishing in an instant.
The moment he hit the exit Sonic utterly destroyed the sound
barrier, setting off an explosive sonic boom. It wasn't long
until the blur became invisible to the naked as he shot off
across the parking lot and vanished deep into the city streets
beyond.

"Has that meddlesome hedgehog left yet? .. i swear whenever he
shows up, only bad things occur."
Shrugging, Sonya only half heartedly listened to what appeared
to be setting into a daily routine for Dr Quack. Not that she
was going to dare question where his distaste for her crush
stemmed from.
___
"Five minutes and not a minute over fox you hear!"
Sonya didn't need to be told twice, after hours of what felt
like it'd just been her and Dr Quack in close proximity, she was
uncharacteristically glad to be given a short leash to go get
some fresh air, and gather her apparent half baked thoughts.
Stretching her arms over her head, and allowing herself to
release tension she wasn't even aware she'd been building, she
set off to find Sonic.
___
Locating Tails workshop hadn't been to much of a challenge, as
it happened she wasn't entirely geographically challenged. And
so the only one she really needed to worry about now, was how
she was going to CASUALLY make her presence known, and not make
it look like she'd been mentally prepping herself for most of
the wander over here. Holding two chili dogs in hand, she was
pretty much in her element of calm, she totally had this!
Breaking into a slight run, the female cleared her throat.
"Er.. h-hey guys! i got foo-"
And there went her dignified entrance, tripping in the doorway,
classic Sonya behavior in one.

Catching the sent of chilidogs Sonic dropped the magazine he was
reading and sprung into action. A blue wind rushed past Dr.
Heart as she found herself within Sonic's grasp before she even
hit the ground, he grabbed her waist preventing her from tipping
over. He used his free hand to make an open palm the food
landing perfectly flat across it. Normally Sonic would have
smiled or said something witty but he didn't want her to get the
wrong idea. Placing the Doctor back on her feet Sonic handed her
the bag of food and zipped back over to the desk eying his
magazine. "Yo, Dr. Heart, do I smell chilidogs? Nice call. Come
on in and pull up a seat. Tails won't be back for a while so we
can catch up. It's a shame he'd love to have met you."
