Time and Space: A Hedgehog's Dilemma

A partly cloudy afternoon in a forest outside of Starlight Town,
energy-like sound effects flooded the ears of animals and
mobians passing by. Shadow stood idle in a vast open area field
with somewhat tall grasss and flowers, golden inhibitor rings
planted firm on the surface clashing with the environment. The
amnesiac Ultimite Lifeform wished to refine his powers,
polishing his skills to prevent himself from getting rusty along
with learning a new technique. Bathed in a powerful aura of
yellow chaos energy, the onyx colored hedgehog crunched into a
stance of concentration, stern ruby iris glared into the
horizon.
He breathed in and breathed out oxygen, sealing his eyelids shut
preparing to initiate his technique. Electric, cackling sparks
flashed in the sky, a small orb of chaos energy appeared, it
begins to fly in a circular motion, spinning faster and faster.
Gradually it begins to expand, morphing into a swirling vortex,
it was almost complete until Shadow begins to feel his stamina
draining, the level of stress broke his concentration and the
incomplete portal vanished.
He fell on his knees using his hands to support his body, drops
of sweat pounded the grass, gas escaped his mouth trying to
catch his breath, the chaos aura continues to brighten the body.
"I-....-pants-..-pants-...I can do this.." he picked himself up
to try again. He dons the stance of concentration and closed his
eyes, his energy aura this time around appears to be shrinking
into his body, the energy orb returned slowly spinning into a
vortex once again. Shadow could feel his stamina draining again
however he kept pushing, a brief flashback of Maria consumed his
thoughts, he opened his eyelids revealing the swirling vortex is
completed. Puzzled by his handiwork the portal showcased Shadow
a period of time aboard the Space Colony ARK 50 years ago..
"Happy birthday Shadow!" spoke a blond girl, she presented a big
cake with the pin cushion's name on the icing, a man with a
white mustache in a lab coat is also present wearing a party
hat. A "younger" Shadow is in the scene, mouth gaping open in
awestruck by the shape and design of such a bakery treat, due to
never knowing what cake looks like. "What is that Maria?" he
spoke, his tone is soft and coated with curiosity.
"Its a birthday cake silly, we are celebrating the day you were
born" she giggled.
"Now now my dear he doesn't know what a cake is nor has he eaten
one, he was created recently after all" the professor stroked
his mustache. He took a knife and cut a piece of cake for Shadow
to try. "Here you go young lad" he gave him a fork.
He received the plate and fork glancing at the cake's texture
"am I supposed to eat this professor?" he sniffed the icing. he
can feel his saliva watering inside his mouth
"Yes, you can eat it, go on just try it" he encouraged.
Shadow shrugged his shoulders, he slammed his muzzle on the cake
making a mess, icing stuck all over his face as Shadow swallowed
the soft fluffy substance. Maria bust out laughing and the
professor couldn't help but chuckle. "Oh Shadow, you're supposed
to use the fork! you got icing all over yourself" she giggled
wiping the food off of his face. Gerald placed his arms behind
his back towering over his granddaughter and "son"
"You both are my pride and joy, everyday my work has been
enjoyable knowing I get to take breaks and spend time with my
little princess, as for you Shadow I created you for one special
purpose"
The black hedgehog glanced at his creator confused by that
phrase. "What is my purpose doctor?"
"Your purpose is to-" suddenly the portal closes before present
day Shadow could get an answer. a hand is reached out longing
for it to comeback. The ebony hedgehog placed his rings back
into their slots, ruby eyes glared into the horizon.
"Maria...I want to see you again one more time, both you and the
professor, but how?" he took a moment to ponder on the question,
an idea popped on his head. "There is one way I can go back to
the past and I cant do it alone, I know someone who can help me
get what I want" ruby eyes glared with determination as Shadow
disappeared out of sight using Chaos Control.
He is searching for Tails.
