Re: Stars on the Midnight Range?

With the food served the others started to dig into it and it
was great, amazing even.
"Alright, i gotta say, the boy can cook, this is amazing,"
Petrov announced after a bit which the other two could only
agree upon, "certainly beats living of rations. Heh, you won't
believe how bland minute chicken gets after five days with
little variety. But it makes you appreciate things like this."
"Indeed, it's good to see you can actually complement him as
well," James said as a jab against the tiger.
"What can i say, i am a feline of many talents," Petrov answered
with a fake smile, "still, i think it is best if i keep to
myself."
Guntram looked up at them with Tuna in his mouth, carefully
chewing so he didn't miss what they were discussing. Had he
missed something again?

"Well I wouldn't know what the rations taste like and I suppose
its not something extraordinary." He said while delicately
skewing a piece of the steak. " He pourred himself a glass of
wine and took a sip and rolled it in his mouth for the taste. "
Tell me James, when did the team formed? Was it difficult?
Please tell me, it has been so long since last time we met." he
beseeched him with genuine interest and a warm and intoxicated
smile. The poor stag wasn't a drinker, not even an occasional
but some occasions were traditionally accompanied with a bottle.
This was part of his family legacy.
He was a under the spell of the drinks he had, this was a double
edged sword he would soon discover the effects if he wasn't
careful.

"They're bland, end of story," Petrov answered bluntly, "and
they get very boring after a while. Even if they have some
variety."
James meanwhile took a sip of the wine and focused on the given
question.
"Well, since you ask, sit down and enjoy. This is quite the
tale," he said and leaned in over the table, "It all started not
long after i finished high school actually. I decided that
academic life wasn't for me. I mean, you were part of the reason
i made it in the first place. That's besides the point. I signed
up first and quickly rose through the ranks... too fast if i say
so myself. But i soon ended up with fighting with my own squad.
However, it would seem that someone pulled something on me as
after a few missions i was pulled from the unit despite our good
performance, which i was praised for mind you... and then i was
assigned a new unit. Currently consisting of only Maria Hawkins,
a medic, and Sabine Horten, our heavy weapons specialist. She
didn't take kind to this new husky that was put in charge. So
she challenged me to a spar for command. I won, surprisingly,
and that is the main reason she obeys me. Guess practicing with
my father paid off in the end. Maria was shy and reserved...
still is, but she has a good heart, does her job very well and
very fiery in combat when civilians are involved, trust me, she
can be scary at times."
He held a small break, looked around to make sure they were all
paying attention still, then he kept going, "Guntram arrived
later. We started to have a bit of success and he was fresh out
of pilot school with honors. I was quite surprised when i saw
him, he was overjoyed. He became our squad pilot and now
maintains an outdated plane at the airport. We also have a
little helicopter for squad deployments."
"The plane is a F9F-2 Panther," Guntram interrupted, hoping that
Arvid knew how much old planes meant to him, "the helicopter is
an huey helicopter. Both our old and outdated... guess that is
what i get for being out here away from the big cities, being
shipped things from the storage closet."
"Yes, thank you, Guntram," James muttered, now a bit thrown off
by it all and getting a happy smile from the penguin, "but as i
was saying, Petrov was the last addition to the squad. He was
from a tribe as he has already old you and he was scooped up by
G.U.N for his talents in the field. Now we are together as this
group and that is the end of our story."

"You lead quite the interesting life all those years. I'm glad
you have found your calling" he said nodding to James. " Somehow
I am curious how you ended up in this village? " He asked out of
genuine curiosity despite the intoxication that made him blush
when he heard Maria's name.
"G-guntram" He chuckled:" I want to see your plane someday. The
real one, not the model!" He said happily. The poor stag was
indeed drunk, but who could blame him? The stranger hhad him
stressed after all.

"Aw, is the little stag already getting affected by the
alcohol?" Petrov asked in an sickeningly caring voice before
looking to James, "has he never tried a beer before?"
"Never," James answered and sipped his wine, "not before you
scared him into it. Now he is starting to lose it... question is
how much he will remember."
The husky then focused on the question of how they came to work
in the city. "As for your question, Arvid, we are mainly here to
be G.U.N extension. We help around the city. Maria is at the
hospital, Petrov and i help the police, Sabine works at the
fitness center and Guntram... does something. But, if G.U.N
calls, we answer."
Guntram also looked at Arvid and smiled before giving him a hug.
"I would love to show you the plane in real life," he assured
him, "just give me a call and i can come escort you there...
that is what the protocol dictates. It will be like when i
became a pilot and too k you for a flight to celebrate."

Arvid returned the hug and said :" I can really see the plane?
Yess...!' The intoxicated stag was eerily happy and stood up to
leave the room. 'First things first, lets do some
stargazziiiing..': His speech became a little sluggish and he
kept chuckling now and then while tumbling his way in the back
yard and met with the door he leaned against. He still standing
(thanks to the door mind you...) and seemed to find it funny
noneteless. ' The door won'....t c-cooperate..with me....Like
...when..I try to ...talk to a woma...wo...mm...woman!' Then he
crashed down on the floor. Everyone could hear a bang from the
living room which connected to the outside. It was better a
woodeen floor than stone tiles.

Arvid's antics were starting to get a bit unsettling at this
point as he got up and tired to get out to see the stars. Then
came a remark that wasn't the best and finally there was a
crash, seemed it had been too much for him.
"Sheesh, he is really weak, isn't he?" Petrov asked as he and
the others got up to get him up again.
"I can't deny it," James said as he pulled Arvid up on his
shoulder, "he shouldn't have been drinking that much. I suppose
we should put him to bed and clean up."
"Yeah, let's do that," Guntram nodded as James and Petrov
carried him to his bedroom, after they found it that was, and
placed on his bed. There, Guntram pulled a blanket over him and
then they went to clean up his kitchen. Once they were done,
Guntram wrote a small message for Arvid as they got ready to
leave.
'Dear Arvid, when you wake up we wont be here. Last night you
had too much and passed out. We placed you in your bed and
cleaned your kitchen. Hope you're okay and that the hangover is
swift.'
- Guntram.
Once the message was written and placed on the dining table,
they all packed up and left, heading back to base for some rest
before they headed out to work again the next day.

The next morning,
the bed was comfortable, but something was off.He did not
remember going to bed or climbing up the stairs for that matter.
His head rose from the pillows and he glanced around to realise
that he was alone and in his room. But he had guests last night,
and an intruder given that he had invited himself and was rude
mind you... If he wasn't rude at least his presence wouldn't
bother Arvid, but this feline was not very nice although he had
a point. Arvid wasn't able to stand up for himself and he was
pathetic. He had realised it already, his father kept reminding
him at every occasion he got. Little he knows that his youngest
son had found a way to live by selling most of his artistic
projects to galleries and industries. Little Arvid used his
talent in a way that his father would never suspect. After a
long reminiscing, he realised that he had passed out drunk last
night.'Oh my, what have I done, I need to go and beg for
forgiveness to James and Guntram. Mr Petrov can...can, well he
can go eat a bad sandwich for all I care': he said to himself
and ran to his closet to take fresh clothes and ran to take a
shower, groom himself and finally changed clothes before heading
out to the station.
after a few minutes of power walking,
the deer finally arrived, his was fidgeting out of nervosity he
stood at the reception hoping to find someone. 'Excuse me,
miss?': he dared to poke the first lady that passed by( hoping
that he could talk to that lady and ask for James Mitchell or
Guntram Messerschmidt). 'It seems....t-that I-I might
r-r-require s....some assistance': he stuttered and even lost
his words again. The sheer pressure was just enough to mute the
poor fellow whom as always carried a note book just in case he
would have a selective mutism episode.

The morning hadn't been too exciting and if she was being
honest, she didn't mind it. Maria had spent yesterday at the
hospital as a nurse and today she was going to stay at the base
and help Sabine with their duties as part of G.U.N.
As she walked down the hallway past the reception hall, she was
stopped by a civilian, a young stag. The young man seemed to be
in need of assistance and she had some extra time, so it would
be rude, if not unforgivable, if she didn't help him.
"What, i didn't quite get that, sorry," she apologized and
turned to face him, "could you please repeat that, sir? Then i
will see what i can do to help you."

Arvid froze and turned crimson, was it her? He tried to reach to
his note book but ended up fidgeting nervosly instead off doing
anything useful. By the time he'd reach for his notebook the
night would fall. He spend several minutes fidgeting and
muttering incomprehensible words to the doe in front of him with
inconclusive results. He had planned it, for he left a note for
James and Guntram in his notebook given he'd have another
episode. His last attempt to communicated ended up with a raised
index and an awkward smile which again lead to nothing good.
