Flickering Flames [Open]
By: Empress Blaze Date: August 20, 2016, 10:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Just outside mobotropolis rest the heavily forested: Wood Zone,
a tranquil setting favored by the people of the sprawling city
looking to avoid the hustle and the bustle to take in fresh air
and just relax. It's sprawling array of trees stretched out as
far as the eye could see and the sounds of the wildlife filled
the air with nature's sweet symphony. This peace wouldn't last
long however, as a plume of smoke and fire would erupt in the
middle of one of the fields that was bathed in the multicolored
lights of a lowering sun. A lightly battered and somewhat
bruised cat with lilac fur would step unto the grass. "This
should be far enough..." The female mobian muttered to herself
as she moved to grip her side while fighting back a hiss of
pain. The high speed battering she received from that Blue
Hedgehog just hours ago still lingered persistently. The pain
caused rage to swell up within her causing the Empress to lean
her head back and release her frustration in the combination of
a furious and a pillar of flame that escaped her maw as if she
were a living blow torch.

This lasted for a solid 10 seconds before her sharp teeth
snapped shut causing the flames to sputter and spark around her
lips. With a heavy sigh she would slump into the soft grass and
rest her head just taking a moment to look at the sky. She
inhaled the fresh chemical free air through her nose before
letting out a cool sigh. "There's no use getting upset...I was
hoping for something interesting anyway." She told herself as
she let her eyes close and forced herself to relax. "After all,
the boredom is what brought me here wasn't it?" She asked
herself as she let her thoughts drone on. She didn't admit it
out loud but fighting those two made her feel...Alive, again.
Having a moment to just talk and toy with the blue hedgehog was
also sort of nice before the fighting started. It didn't really
hold much merit for her conquest until he brought up the Sol
Emeralds but...
It reminded her of what her life used to be
like.
"Blaze! C'mon already!" A cheery tone of a young girl
excitedly called out ahead of Blaze as a figure excitedly ran up
a spiraling staircase before her. The cat, much younger yet much
cheerier would pout at being urged onward as if she was being
called slow.
"You know, we'd get there faster if I didn't have to follow you!
Just tell me where we're going!" The child complained as she
quickly pushed ahead to catch up with her friend. "...Besides
you know my parent's don't like us near the spires! What's so
important up here?" She asked for like the hundredth time. As
her friend denied her question with a giggle the child would
growl as her tail flicked back in forth in agitation.
"It's just a little bit further! I promise!" Her friend said
looking back with a wink. "...And if I told ya, it wouldn't be a
surprise now would it?" Blaze huffed and puffed sending little
embers skittering here and there but eventually they'd reach the
top of the castle spire.
It was there that she was treated to the sight her friend had
dragged her up to see. Blaze felt her breath caught in her
throat as she looked out to the setting sun and the entire
kingdom it bathed in it's splashes and strokes of multicolored
light.
"See? I told you!"
"It's so pretty! How did you know when to come up here?"
"W-well, I dunno I just sorta thought it might look nice from
way up here. I also figured if it didn't at least we'd be
disappointed together!"
"...Thanks, for bringing me."
"Pfft of course, you weirdo."
Blaze's eyes opened as she let out a shaky exhale. She lightly
dragged a gloved hand across the corner of her eye only to look
at the tear stained fabric. She inhaled quickly as she squeezed
her eyes shut and shook her head, fighting back her emotions as
she cleared her mind.
No...
It could never be like it was...

Recently, the forest had come under some stress; as broken
scrapped half-working robots had shown up, causing unrest among
the peaceful residents of Wood Zone, and a surplus of Chaos
Radiation (allegedly as a result of an evil mustachioed man’s
antics) had caused some of the plants and beasts to mutate
slightly, to become more unwelcoming or feral.
As it turns out, the feline pyromancer was not alone. For
another individual was roaming these fair woods, but perhaps
with a bit more of an aim as to what they were doing; chasing
these malfunctioning robots away and attempting to pacify the
sickened creatures and mark where dangerous plants had cropped
up.
Who was this individual exactly?
T’was a hedgehog, one of damp greenish teal fur, oddly short
spines with black stripes across various places on his body. He
had a short fringe, a scruffy muzzle and strangely mesmerizing
yellow eyes. He had a black neckerchief, a grey belt and wore a
pair of weird looking purple boots, standard grey gloves, and he
happened to have strange black wrap-like fabric around his
wrists and lower leg down to the edges of his boots.
His name was Ashura, and he was currently swinging by the
trees-- he was using that mysterious fabric to do so, wicked!
‘Okay, so I think this area was where those plants were…’
[glow=red,2,300]FROOMF![/glow][/cent
er]
Without warning, a plume of smoke erupted out of the distance,
could it have been another one of those robots? ‘Guess I’ll have
to check that out!’ Changing his course to swing towards the
smoke, he eventually saw a purple cat… She didn’t look all that
good! Ashura clambered down from the tree and approached
cautiously. “S’cuse me, A-are you okay?”

Blaze shot up, her fur bristling at the sound of an intruder.
Her hands outstretched as the heat around them visibly raised to
a near ignition point. Though with her scrapes and bruises it
was pretty obvious that this was more of a show than an outright
threat. The Empress' golden hues narrowed in on the hedgehog
who's visage gave her an unsettling and 'wrong' feeling. She
shook this off however as she kept her domineering gaze direct
and fixated on him.
"Sneaking up and around a girl while she's alone is generally
considered poor form is it not?" She practically purred as her
dangerous gaze narrowed in as she developed a sort of tunnel
vision. "You can stow your faux concern away. Along with the
idea that I have ashed tougher bandits than you!" She snapped,
clearly misunderstanding the boy's intent.

"Woah, woah!" Ashura recoiled as the cat's glare matched his
concerned eyes, the temperature rose to uncomfortable levels and
it seemed as though this cat was the source... Maybe she was
even the one that let off that explosion too! The fact remained
however; she wasn't exactly in top forms by the looks of
things-- which was more or less confirmed at a closer look.
"Relax, I mean you no harm!" Ashura winced and his face looked
as though it garbled up for a second before returning to normal.
The cat lady did have a point though, someone showing up out of
nowhere while one was injured could very well be of more
malicious intent. "Well, maybe think about it next time before-
uh- making an explosion then!" Ashura would say with a huff.
"Coulda' been one of those dinky robots for all I knew." His
expression would quickly change from a defensive huff to a
bright smile."Nuh-uh! Nothin' faux fakerookie about it! You're
injured, so I care. Simple as~!"
...
It seems Ashura was either brave, or very very stupid.

"If you mean to help me you can drop your supplies and let me
help myself." She spat towards the emerald colored hedgehog. Her
steady glare remained level on the young man as she lowered her
boiling hands and let the still somewhat toxic air cool from the
anger and destructive magic that pulsed around the Empress.
Thinking on it, she wasn't exactly in the best position to patch
herself up, in fact she would probably botch the job up rather
badly. So, thinking on this, she her eyes closed and breathed.
She let the sickly-sweet chemical scent tickle her nose before
she let out a hoarse exhale and a dry cough.
"....Thinking on it, I shall allow you to assist me hedgehog."
She reluctantly conceded before letting her sharp gaze return.
"Though if I feel threatened in anyway know that I can and will
ash you faster than you can say 'fakerookie.' Do you
understand?" Her use of his odd vernacular may have made it seem
as if she were kidding about her threat. There was an unwieldy
weight to her words however, that made it clear she was deadly
serious.

Suddenly in a flash a blue streak would begin to circle the two.
The fast moving object would circle around the two creating a
wall of wind as a blue vortex raged rapidly. Skidding to a stop
having whipped a tornado the blue streak revealed itself to be
Sonic, the fastest creature in the universe. Having cut off any
means of escape the hero moved in cracking his knuckles. "You
burnt off my skin and left me to die. If I wasn't such a quick
healer I'd probably be dead. Do you have any idea what it's like
being set on fire? It hurts A LOT! I'm getting real tired of
chumps like you and ol Robuttnik thinking you can do whatever
you want. Heroes have lives too yanno. It's been weeks since
I've been on a date or spent quality time with friends. Anyway
this is the part where I kick the hell outta you until you
bleed."
With that the blue blur zipped off again running around and
around circling the two at least a thousand times a second.
Kinetic energy started build up in the blue storm as lightning
crackled. Soon thunderbolts and gale force winds were preventing
any escape leaving fighting as the only viable option. Sonic
rushed towards Blaze with a fist charged with lightning should
he hit his target the cat would endure a shocking experience.

"Pfftch, fine, fine, yeesh... Don't be such a baby about it."
Ashura rolled his eyes with a smirk. Was he being too casual? Oh
for sure. Of course the one he encountered had to be one of
those 'totally tough lone wolf' types, but this was the best way
to deal with them. What was it with people and not wanting help
when they were hurt and unable to take care of themselves
anyway? Thats not how people survive!
He was fully ready to assist the feline pyromancer, but it
seemed as though the cosmic eventuality of the universe had
other plans when all of a sudden a tube-wall of blue had
appeared. Ashura's expression contorted into a very large
exclamation point "!" as an alert noise (the
iconic MGS one, clearly) blurted outward from him before his
face returned to normal.
Some kind of vibrating blue entity had shown up out of nowhere,
spewing random threats-- that, while potentially somewhat
justified-- were still not right in the slightest. "Woah woah
WOAH, HOLD THE PROVERBIAL TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICE FIRMLY WITHIN
YOUR GRASP." Alas, try as Ashura might, violence was eminent. He
made an attempt to get closer, but one of the sudden gusts
caused him to faceplant, making a squeaky toy noise as he hit
the ground.
So much for looking cool.

Up in the trees and in the shadows, a certain echidna watched as
Sonic acted per usual. With a shake of his head, Knux rolled
his eyes. Arms crossed, and her remained silent. Of course,
there was always multiple sides to a story, but what was Sonic
up to this time? For now, he observed the fight as it was,
calculating his next move. What he really wanted to do is ask
why Sonic hadn't bothered visiting. The hedgehog's current
situation, however, looked an obsessive moment, so might as well
let the blue blur take after a chilli dog and ... chill... Knux
shook his head. No, that didn't work as well as he thought it
would.

[I really botched this tread up by going AWOL, figured I should
explain why Blaze poofed so...]
Blaze's eyes narrowed as Sonic approached her with his lightning
fist. The empress, while he had been posturing and running
around, had cooly pulled her Sol Emerald from her jacket. The
Viridian glint in her hand was the only clue as to what she was
plotting. As the hedgehog's fist came to her muzzle the cat's
form faded with the flames. To the untrained eye it would have
looked like Sonic ran through her with enough force to cause her
to explode. The hedgehog however, would have seen the wild smirk
on her face as she made her exit. It seemed that this was but a
game to her, even as she was fleeing.
...A game they would surely continue another time.
