The Challenge. (One-off) (Mobotropolis Edition)

It was time. FINALLY TIME! After months of work and countless
failures it was time. Eggman smiled to himself, stroking his
moustach as he paced about his lab, circling the table that
housed the project he had been working on for so long.
"Its ready. Finally. I've certainly outdone myself this time.
Even with my genius I hardly thought it possible and yet here I
am, having done it!" He cackled to himself before shaking his
head. "I truly am a master of my craft."
The doctor moved to a console, quickly tapping a few buttons on
the keyboard before flipping a switch. There was a humming and
a sudden surge of power as the thing on the table began to
shutter and shake before the humming grew quiet. Hyper Metal
Sonic sat up slowly and looked about, its eyes looking about
slowly, taking in its surroundings. It would move off the
table.
"I am running at peak efficiency. All power levels are stable."
Spoke Hyper Metal.
Eggman smiled wide. "Excellent. Then its time to issue a
challenge."
A few hours would pass before every electronic device on earth
would be hacked. Eggman's logo appeared over the screens before
Eggman's voice spoke out. "Greetings Mobius! It is I, Doctor
Eggman!" he spoke. "I am broadcasting on all frequencies to
issue a challenge to Sonic the Hedgehog. My newest robot, Hyper
Metal Sonic, will beat you. He has all of your abilities and
More. So I propose a race! A race on the only track that can
withstand your true speed. Stardust Speedway. There will be a
blue warp ring waiting for you in Mobotropolis. Should you
accept the challenge, just jump into it.... If you don't accept
the challenge... well."
Eggman began to cackle before calming himself. "I will detonate
what is left of Robotnik's Nuclear arsenal and send Mobius into
a nuclear winter. You have three days. Eggman out."
The transmission ended there and a large blue warp ring would
appear in the middle of Mobotropolis. To guard it from others
two Metal Sonics were sent down to defend it.

As predicted Sonic showed up. Eggman's challenge was just
something Sonic couldn't resist. Should Sonic have some how
ignored his ego Eggman made sure he would show by following up
with a threat to detonate his predecessors weaponry. Sonic
walked down the long stretching street barefoot with a new
experimental pair of sneakers slung over his shoulder. In his
other hand he carried the glittering chaos emerald prepared to
take it into the dragons den. Upon spotting the two mass
produced Metals he gave a groan. "Not these toasters again? I
hope you've got more than these scrap Sonic's waiting through
that warp ring." He called out for all to hear. Looking around
Sonic was a little disappointed neither his friends nor his
public had some to see him off. He shook his head pushing the
cobalt attack drone aside. "You know the wrap ring woulda been
enough. Sending your lackeys has anybody too scared to come out
and wish me luck. I mean way to take the wind outta my sales
Egghead." Ready to head into the portal Sonic stopped taking
once last glance around. "Really nobody? Today just isn't my
day."

"Nobody? Surely you haven't yet lost faith in us yet?" a
respectfully-cold voice echoed softly from behind. Should he
turn around, Sonic would find a certain Mobian Tiger leaning
casually against a wall that he had walked passed mere moments
before; a wall that didn't have anyone leaning against it
before. She didn't seem too concerned by the presence of robots;
rather, more focused on Sonic, "So, running a race huh?
Nervous?"
Karahl had been carefully examining her now bandaged hands;
tending to her wounds. Thinking back on her fight with Shadow,
until recently she had absolutely no idea of her capability of
crushing a Chaos Spear with her bare hands. Was it from the rush
of the fight? Adrenaline pushing her that far? Whatever the
reason, it didn't go without repercussions. Beneath those
bandages her hands were burned pretty severely and will take
time to heal; so she will keep in mind to not pull a stunt like
that in the future.
"Your target has been taken care of." she commented idly before
sliding her cyan eyes over to the hedgehog and outstretched an
open palm, "Were you able to retrieve an Emerald?"

Upon glancing backwards he saw the voice belonged to Karahl.
Hands in his pockets he smiled seeming at peace seeing his lady
friend once more. Sonic stood savoring the moment before shaking
his head. "Me nervous!? I know you hate the spotlight Karrie but
you'd be pretty good at standup with a sense of humor like
that." The wind blew lightly through his spines as he closed his
eyes opening them to glance over at the portal. The ring of
energy was beckoning to him finally a true challenge worthy of
his legendary speed. In truth Sonic was excited. "I shoulda
known you'd pop up here. You have the habit of showing up
whenever people least expect it. You know Karahl I've been
thinking and love is like a drug. When you met me you stepped
out of the shadows made some friends and even cut back the
killing for a little while at least. Yeah love is like a drug it
makes you consider doing things you'd never normally do. I've
clearly rubbed off on you. I think you're finally starting to
rub off on me. I'd never consider killing somebody but that
Shadow guy....I had no problem asking you to do it. The way he
runs around stealing my spotlight thinking he can call the shots
for MY TEAM. When I was fighting him I saw mark on his boots
saying he was property of Dr.Robotnik. The way he looks like me
and even copied my spindash he's gotta be a robot or at least
some sorta clone of me. I'm getting sick of these imposters
trying to show me up." Sonic said gesturing towards the metal
copies. "Anyway I've gotten what you asked for." He said
dropping the gem into her hand. "Wasn't easy to get so I hope
you take care of it. So whats it for? I never took you for a
jewellery admirer. Either way babe I've got some work to do. How
about a kiss for luck?" He asked tapping his cheek.

"If that's the case, I should consider changing careers." she
commented calmly before going quiet to listen to him talk. A
hint of a smile stretched behind her mask, "Yes well, the world
only has room for the strong. I'm just glad to be of
assistance."
When Karahl grasped onto the Emerald and her smile broadened as
it was pocketed for safe keeping, "How sweet of you Sonic, rest
assured it'll be kept safe and for good use. As for what I'm
going to use it for... it's for something to help with the
battle going on." the ninja quickly glanced up at the robots in
the area before looking back at him, "You'll find out soon
enough. I just want you to remember that this would not have
been possible without you, Sonic." she hummed before leaning
down, pulled down her mask and pecked him on the cheek. Ever so
lightly and briefly.
"Well, the clock is ticking, good luck Sonic, I'll be watching
the race." she announced before slipping into the shadows of a
nearby alleyway; then disappeared completely from sight.

Sonic smiled unknowingly handing over a great source of power to
somebody of murderous intent. Her line about him responsible for
whats to come flew right over his head as he enjoyed Karahl's
kiss. He knelt down lacing up his new Atomic Relativity Boots
pulling the straps up light. When his feet where firmly in the
shoes he jogged on the spot. "Nice bounce. Feels like I'm
running on air." Sonic walked over to the warp ring spying his
reflection in the portal's surface. He smiled wiping away the
lipstick mark from the smooch earlier on the back of his glove.
"Normally I'd wear it like a badge of pride but I'm in for the
race of my life." With that Sonic stepped into the portal and
was at the mercy Eggman's chose location.
