The Shadow of a Rabbit
By: Shadow the Hedgehog Date: August 1, 2016, 3:34 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Shadow's search for Sonic has been in vain, the guy can travel
all over the whole within a matter of seconds so he can be
anywhere in the realm of Mobius for all he knew. There are other
pressing matters to worry about than some ignorant hedgehog
trying to kill him, things like the location of the princess
Scourge Kidnapped or when is Eggman going to began his next
course of action are among subjects to discuss.
At least the ebony mole was satisfied he was able to give
Scourge the pounding and humiliation he deserves, a smile full
of pleasure replaced his trademark frown imagining the look on
that punks face once he realized Shadow made him look like a
dork suffering from the pain he dished out on him with Chaos
Control. Its going to be a loooong while for Scourge to get rid
of the drawing from his face and lick his wounds.
Despite losing to that assassin and Scourge prior to his
revenge, his self-confidence will never waver, its a good thing
Mallow has reminded him he was the most powerful mobian and was
much better than Sonic, no matter how many wins or loses he will
go through in the future, nothing will ever take away that
feeling of being the best away from him.
Speaking of Mallow it was time to train his pupil..whenever he
decides to show up. Like with everyone else he only saw him as
an acquaintance who is tolerable at best, due to his upbringing
he never made any friends aside from Maria who he vaguely
remembers, he wouldn't know how to be more social and lively
even if he wanted to.
Still...Mallow has peaked his interest somewhat, for starters he
couldn't understand his strange infatuation towards him and why
he idolize him so much, second of all why does he want to learn
how to use his powers? Whatever those reasons are it amused him,
he is curious to see how could anyone aside from himself utilize
his chaos abilities, should be entertaining to watch.
Shadow decides to tread over to the Great Forest locating the
Lake of Rings and stand there patiently for Mallow's arrival.
How does Shadow know about the Lake of Rings is pretty simple,
one day during his adventures Shadow had detected an enormous
amount of chaos energy and it lead him to accidentally
discovering the Power Rings thinking it was a chaos emerald.
He currently has no use for such items but he is aware they will
come in handy one day. "Lets see if he can find me, if he
doesn't show up within 24 hours he is not worthy of my
power...." he closed his eyes with his arms folded.
This will truly test out Mallow's tracking skills and
determination of how far he will go to look for him.

The training with Shadow had honestly been put aside as Mallow's
mind had focused solely on getting away to a place where he
could find peace. His running had been swapped to his hop walk
technique so he could cover a greater distance, as he bounded
across mile after mile until the coverage of trees and plant
life surrounded him. Mallow slowed down to a walk until he
stopped at a lake of water. He shed his bag and jacket on the
ground as he approached the water's edge, kneeling down to wash
his face, to awaken his senses and refresh his spirits. It did
little to relieve his anxiety, but the peace of the forest
sounds and fresh air did ease his mind a bit. These woods felt a
bit like home, granted it was much cooler and there was an
abundance of flora as opposed to the Great Desert, but Mallow
could feel a sense of comfort and safety.
His attention was caught when a yellow glow appeared beneath the
surface of the lake. The rabbit stood and watched as a gold ring
began to rise up.
"A... a power ring?" Mallow stared at the ring, and then
realized where he was. "Mine." He kicked off his shoes and then
jumped over the water's surface, reaching out and splashed down
on the ring. He surfaced holding his prize up then slipped it on
his arm as he swam back to the shore. That had been refreshing.

"You finally arrived Mallow, I was beginning to think you've
gotten lost on the way here" a deep but smooth sounding voice
voice spoke out to him.
Shadow the Hedgehog stood proudly with his arms folded,
ironically encountering his student during his times of wanting
to clear his mind. It was unknown if Mallow found him on purpose
or it was just sheer dumb luck guiding his path, but nonetheless
he was impressed he managed to find this place.

Mallow's head snapped up and he walked out of the lake, running
a hand through his hair to get the wet locks out of his eyes, he
smiled at the hedgehog. "Shadow!" he greeted with a new burst of
happy energy.
Approaching the hedgehog, his realization of Shadow's words
finally registered and he grinned. "Ah well, I had a few
visitors to entertain, as you know. But I offered them my
apologies and explained that I had a previous engagement and
that I shouldn't be tardy." He winked.
The rabbit had done no such thing, but it felt more comfortable
to put up a front then go into something he, and possibly
Shadow, didn't care about. He sobered a bit, a more genuine
smile graced his face. "Thank you, for healing me that is. My
body feels better than ever." Well, he had lost a bit of muscle
mass, but he was confident that this training would build it
back up.

Shadow once again brushed off any kindness thrown his way.
"Hmph, I only did it to begin your training, now tell me, what
do you wish to learn?" he maintains a neutral expression.
In truth he could've let Mallow recover in the hospital and wait
until he healed naturally for him to train him, but deep down
inside he care for him enough as an individual for him to do
such a thing...not that he was going to admit it of course.

Mallow smiled in spite of Shadow's harsh words and then thought
a moment. "Teach me how to take you down." He stated bluntly and
then continued. "If I can do that, then there isn't much hope
for Scourge, or Eggman, or anything that wants to hurt my planet
and my people. That laser thing you did with your hand would be
a nice feature. You say: Chaos Spear! before you use it,
correct? Does that mean it's powered by Chaos Emeralds? Like the
teleporting?" He inquired, tilting his head to the side.

Shadow chuckled with pride, finding Mallow's request to be
strong enough to take down the ultimate life form himself
outright absurd and a fools dream. Although it wasn't impossible
seeing as Scourge and Karahl taught him the meaning of failure,
he was just happy he didn't have to show off his full power and
resort to killing them despite the events unfolding around him.
"You have guts I'll give you that" he smirked still finding it
to be amusing, after a few seconds his expression returned went
back to being deadpan. See that? even someone like Shadow can
show emotion.
"The answer is yes and no, you are correct in saying Chaos Spear
and Chaos Control are drawn from the power of the Chaos
Emeralds, however if your body has stored enough chaos radiation
you can use those same abilities without one, I'm the only one
so far who has the ability to use chaos abilities without a
single Chaos Emerald" he confirmed.

Mallow counted the smirk as a small victory on his mission to
make Shadow his friend. "Do I have any chaos radiation? Are you
able to sense that?" He asked, twirling the power ring around
his finger, an idea occurred to him. "Would a power ring give me
enough energy to perform a chaos spear? I read that they
contained great power, hence the name."

Shadow nodded "Yes it should be possible in theory" once again
confirming their potential. Its actually the reason why he
picked the Lake of Rings as a training ground just in case
Mallow needed more power to learn new techniques.
"I'm detecting a lot of chaos radiation coming from that power
ring, therefore it should grant you the ability to use a chaos
spear, all you have to do is concentrate the energy within the
palm of your hand by imagining yourself holding a weapon like a
spear for instance. allow me to show an example of what I'm
talking about" he began a demonstration by closing his dark
tainted eyes, he opened the palm of his left hand focusing the
chaos energy into a single point.
A spark of electricity jolted around his glove, turning into a
sphere of yellow energy, the Chaos Spear has been formed! He
flung the arrow of light into the air refusing to cause
destruction among the trees.

Mallow watched his teacher closely, his stance, the position of
his arm, the way his black and red tinted brows furrowed into a
hard concentration. When the ball of energy was shot at the
trees, Mallow's eyes widened slightly in eagerness and awe.
Would he be able to do that too? Only one way to find out. He
looked down at the ring in his hands, then let out a short
exclamation when the object disappeared in a flash of sparkling
light. "Ah! Uh... was that supposed to happen?" When he had read
about Chaos Emeralds at Sandover, there had been a section on
Rings, he couldn't remember exactly if they were supposed to do
that. "Uhh..." he glanced at Shadow in total uncertainty, then
awkwardly attempted to mimic Shadow's motions used to bring out
the Chaos Spear, he held out a hand and tried to summon the
energy. Unbeknownst to Mallow, the energy of a ring does go into
the holder of the ring as it disappears, where they go afterward
is unknown to all.
Several moments passed by, and nothing, not even a spark came
from Mallow's hand and his ears drooped in despair. "... I don't
think I'm doing it right..."
