Unreliable Shortcut

The forest was quiet, save for the natural noises from birds and
bugs, and the sun shining down onto the trees cast shadows on
the ground. There was even a slight breeze to boot, and it would
have been perfectly relaxing, or maybe even taking a nap, if it
wasn't for the stomping among the brush, and the ranting of a
redhead who had lost her way.
Lumina had figured she could take a shortcut to the ocean
through the forest, as she had recently become aware of a small
beachside city that caught her interest after the destruction of
Mobotropolis, a city she herself had grown attached to. Perhaps
the new city would provide her with new connections and
resources, or at the least, a new shopping spot. All she knew at
the moment, however, was that she wanted to leave this horrid
forest and take a shower, a thought that crossed her mind as she
looked down at the bottoms of her boots, the red and blue glow
now completely masked with mud and dead leaves.
"I would prefer the forest much more if it wasn't for the bugs
and the mud..." She mumbled, pulling out her phone, hoping to
have any sort of signal to pull up a GPS. She had just enough to
connect to the program, but not enough for it to load and be
used effectively, resulting in her shoving the device back into
her dress pocket with an angry snarl, stomping ahead once again.
The thought of turning back the way she came and going home was
something that popped into her mind multiple times, but was shut
out every time as soon as she turned around, and remembered that
she didn't even know which way was backwards. "With my luck,
I'll end up back home just by wandering." she sighed and shook
her head. Next time she would definitely go the normal route and
take an escort with her.

The ranting redhead certainly caused a stir. Birds would fly
off, wild animals would run off and hide. Which was a good
thing, considering the didn't wish to incur the wrath of an
angry mobian.
However her Ranting and stomping would catch the attention of a
passerby. A tall Mobian would come through the brush in front
of her. Five feet tall, Covered in thick scales along its back,
and four large claws on its hands. It wore a large backpack, and
was carrying another bag over his shoulder. The Pangolin
blinked as it came through the brush to see the Woman. "Oh
Jeez." He said to himself.
"H-Hey!" He called. " What are you doing out here in the forest?
Its not safe with all the robots around." He'd come towards
her. "You should be hiding."

Lu let out a yelp and jumped back, glaring at the stranger who
had confronted her. She flattened her ears against her head and
shot him a glare.
"You say that, yet here YOU are." She huffed, regaining her
posture, dusting off the front of her dress and placing her
hands on her hips. "And its not like its any of your business,
but I heard there was a shortcut to a beachside city that I'm
currently looking for, and I'm slowly realizing that I may have
been sent on a wild goose chase." She rolled her eyes,
remembering the idiots she had heard the idea from, and
wondering why she ever decided to listen to them in the first
place.
Then she paused, studying him curiously. She had never seen
anyone like him before, she had always spent her free time in
the city, and despite there being a wide variety of mobians
there, she had never seen one like him. "....And who are you?"

"A shortcut to a beach city?" He asked. " I've been all over
this forest. Theres no such thing I"m afraid." He fixed his grip
on the bag over his shoulder with a grunt before her question
came. " Me?" He asked. " I ain't anyone important. Just your
run of the mill Miner lookin' for a place to sell his wares."
He smiled at her before offering her a claw.
"The names Rudo. I own a mine not too far from this place. Been
in my family for generations." He said. He then looked around
and frowned. "Might be safer to talk somewhere more hidden. If
the robots I saw at mobotropolis are around we could be in some
real trouble."

Lu gritted her teeth together, and mumbled something under her
breath about idiots with bad info, then tilted her head to the
side. "Robots? I thought Mobotropolis was destroyed." She took
his claw and shook it firmly. She wasn't exactly happy
mentioning the destruction of her city, it was a devastating
event that left her with a mountain of paperwork from the loss
of resources and contacts that still had yet to be finished.
"And you seem to know this area better than I do, navigating
forests is a job better left to anyone but me. If you know how
to get out of this place, I'd be glad to continue this
conversation away from any sort of dangerous robots. I don't
know how well a simple pistol could do against something like
that." She let out a slight chuckle, rubbing her left arm
slightly where her weapon was strapped under her sleeve.

"It was destroyed." He said. " But I was just at the crater a
few days ago. I didn't know, since I had been in the mine for
about a month straight. Theres robots crawling all over it." He
turned his head motioning to his left. "I have a shack not too
far from here. We can talk there." He looked her up and down. "
I mean... Its nothing fancy like your dress. But its better
than being out in the open." He turned from her and began
walking before he stopped. " If you get tired of walking you can
always climb on my back. I don't mind."

"So you don't know exactly what happened either..." She followed
him, looking down at the ground for a moment before looking up
with a grin, taking in the compliment to her dress. "I think I
can manage for now, thank you. Anyway, you said you run a mine?
Where are you planning on selling your findings now?" She caught
up, walking beside him. She wouldn't have normally been quite as
talkative or polite in any other situation, but the thought of a
potential contact and resources to a mine spiked her interest
tremendously. Perhaps being polite in this situation could pay
off in the end, and that was enough to keep down her snarky
comments to a minimum. "I'm sure you come across all sorts of
interesting things. I'm sure I would find it to be a nice way to
pass the time if it wasn't for the dirt and enclosed spaces. But
that's what video games are for, yes?" She pulled out her phone,
holding it up above her head in another attempt to get any sort
of signal once again.

"Dunno." He said. "I usually only head out to sell them once a
month and to get more supplies like food and such." He
stretched himself for a moment. "I"m sure I can find some place
given enough time. But I need supplies pretty bad. Only food I
got left are a few cans of beans, and two apples."
They'd soon come up on a log Cabin. It looked nice enough
outside. Beside it was a large cave entrance, with wooden
supports holding it open. He headed to the cabin and pushed
open the door, letting her come inside first."Whats a
videogame?" He asked. The inside of the home was like walking
into a rock emporium. There were slabs of stone here and there
of all kinds. The most interesting being Marble. not only that
but there were jewels on display from the mine itself. Emeralds,
Ruby, Sapphires, and even a Diamond. All on display. There were
also geodes here and there about the home. A large hammock sat
in a corner, clearly the large Mobian's bed.
"Pardon the mess." He said. "I never have company over so I
never really tidy up..."

Lu walked in with wide eyes and put her phone back in her
pocket, taking everything in like a curious child. When he said
he lived in a shack, she wasn't expecting this. She had the
image of an old run down garage-like building with broken
windows and dead trees, and this wasn't like that at all. It
wasn't exactly what she would prefer, but it wasn't terrible.
She stood in an out of the way spot near the wall and the door,
and studied the place entirely, until he questioned her previous
statement.
"You don't know what a video game is?" she stared at him with
wide eyes, then shook her head.
"Nevermind, its not exactly important, you don't seem like the
kind of person to be interested in technology. Anyway, you seem
to have some valuable findings here... If you're interested, you
could always do an exchange with me. With Mobotropolis gone, I'm
sure finding a place to do any sort of shopping for food will
take much longer than the food you have will last." She ran a
hand through her hair and looked back at him. "We have plenty of
supplies at home to exchange with you if you need it."

"Technology is the reason I live alone." He said."I want nothin
to do with it."
He shifted over to a table in the middle of the room before
pulling up a chair. He'd put it in front of the table, before
he sat on the floor. It didn't matter to him. "Who is we?" He
asked. "I mean if you were all in mobotropolis... probably means
there is no We any more." The large Pangolin shifted his weight
abit, Leaning back as he grabbed two of his apples, before
placing them on the table. One for her and one for himself.
