Crash course reading

Nikki walked into the library, idly playing with the hem of his
sweater as he quickly walked past the other patrons scattered
around the building. He'd found his way to Mobotropolis about a
week ago, although he'd still been staying outside the city- it
seemed easier to continue 'camping' then to try and find a place
within the city he wouldn't get robbed of the few power rings he
was still holding on to. In this world, apparently, Sonic was
also a big hero... or at least he was well known. Most people
seemed willing to leave the younger hedgehog alone after
realizing that he wasn't actually Sonic the Hedgehog, though.
'Nikki, what are we doing back here?' Speak of the devil- there
was Maurice speaking up from the back of their mind, looking
around at the library through Nikki's eyes as they made their
way to the further bookshelves. 'Haven't you read enough books?
Let's go explore the city some more instead!'
Nikki shook his head slightly, looking through the names of the
books before reaching up to pull one off the shelf. 'Maurice, I
have years of wasted history lessons to make up for here. It's
better if we read up on as much as we can for now.' Nikki
started moving towards an open chair as Maurice seemed to cross
his arms and grumble. "Look on the bright side- this is already
more recent history, so by the end of the day we can probably
move on, right?" Nikki sat down, having apparently not noticed
he'd spoken out loud, before opening the book and quickly
reading, Maurice’s impatience being easily ignored.

A Pink hedgehog wearing a red headband, and blue dress with
brown boots was seen walking around the library. She was
apparently collecting the books and was about to return to the
shelf, when she heard a voice nearby. She took a glance and saw
a blue hedgehog reading a book, the voice came from him. Was he
talking to himself? Or was it all in her head. Either way he
seemed like a nice person so why not greet the little fellow.
She dropped the books by the stroller and approached the
hedgehog. "Hello there..." the pink hedgehog greeted the blue
hedgehog, standing next to him looking at the book he grabbed.
"So you're interested in history pretty neat..mind if I take a
seat?" she asked him politely.

Nikki jumped slightly in surprise, looking up at the other
hedgehog. "O-oh, um... Hi," Nikki greeted, pulling his book up
slightly as though to hide behind it. "Yeah, I'm... catching up
on it for school. You know how it is." Nikki laughed nervously.
"Sure, uh, feel free."
'She's pretty,' Maurice piped up, sounding rather admiring. 'I
like her hair! Nikki, can we-'
"We aren't-" Nikki began, before correcting himself. 'We aren't
dying our quills pink. It's expensive and it isn't really our
color anyways.' Nikki looked up, realizing the other hedgehog
was still around. Oh no, she would have caught that- "U-uh, we
aren't... introduced yet, are we?" Nikki asked quickly, voice
cracking slightly. "I'm Nikki."

The hedgehog took a seat as Nikki invited him to do so. She
focused her attention back at the other hedgehog "Nikki...that's
a nice name" she held out her hand to grab Nikki's and shake it
"I'm Sakura it's very nice to meet you!" she giggled and said
with a smile. However upon looking at him very closely she
noticed something about him and was curious to asked "Hmmm...Are
you new here in town?..also you look like someone I know from
here." she giggled

Nikki was taken off guard by the handshake, getting pulled
forward a bit before returning it. "L-likewise, Sakura." Nikki
quickly pulled his hand back, looking down at the book, although
he didn't start reading it. "Yeah, I only got here about a week
ago... and a lot of people have been mistaking me with Sonic.
It's probably because we're both blue hedgehogs who wear red-
most people figure out I'm not him pretty quickly, though."
Nikki adjusted his glasses slightly.
'But we are Sonic, technically,' Maurice pointed out. Nikki
ignored him.

"Wow a week...have you already found a place to stay? or rather
how's your stay here so far?" she asked the hedgehog.
"Hmmm...yeah you look a bit like Sonic but you also look like my
friend, who apparently is a blue hedgehog too, well more of a
cyan colored hedgehog...he wears glasses like you do"she giggled
a bit.

As if on cue the cyan hedgehog Soul arrived inside the library
creating a small scene as he slammed the door wide opened, only
to get shushed by the Liberian and a few patrons. He saw the
pink hedgehog by the side and made her way towards her, he wore
a red jacket with gold markings on the pouch and glasses only
the frames were thin compared to Nikki. "Finally found ya..."
the hedgehog remarked at Sakura before looking at Nikki. He
observed the blue hedgehog from top to bottom, he almost had a
striking resemblance to the blue blur, only with glasses. This
is the second blue hedgehog he has ever encountered, was it
perhaps a coincidence? "Oh heya! hows it going?" he asked the
hedgehog.

Nikki coughed. "Um, well... the city seems nice so far. I've
been staying a little ways out, though..." Nikki shrugged and
smiled a bit awkwardly. "Well, wearing glasses can't be that
unusual, I guess."
Nikki jumped at the door slamming open, quills standing on end-
thankfully not cutting the chair, though. He smoothed down his
hair and tried to collect himself a bit as the newcomer walked
over, automatically shrinking slightly at his staring.
"...J-just fine..."

“Hmm…you mean you need a place to stay?” she asked the hedgehog
if that was he was referring to. The pink hedgehog was
astonished when she heard the doors slam, only to find his
hedgehog friend named “Soul”. “Soul this a library don’t you
know, that you’re not allowed to make loud noises!?” she scolded
him a bit in a mild and gentle tone so her voice could not
distract the patrons. She looked back at Nikki "Oh...this is the
hedgehog that I was talking about...Nikki meet Soul—“ she turned
her head to the cyan hedgehog “—Soul meet Nikki” she said giving
an introductory gesture. She giggled upon seeing the two
hedgehog who bear slight resemblances to each other. “So Nikki
where did you live before moving into the city?” she asked the
hedgehog again.

“Sorry bout that I saw part of the city from afar covered in
smoke and fire, turns out when I came there something happened
and I was too late…” he turned his attention to the other blue
hedgehog. “Nice to meet ya Nikki” he said to the blue hedgehog
tipping the frame of his glasses slightly. “Sorry about
startling ya back there again” he said rubbing the back of his
head. Looking at the time the hedgehog figured he had to go
back and meet up with the old panda "Sorry guys I gotta go see
ya soon...t'was nice meeting ya!" he waved at Nikki before he
rushed out through the door
