8AM on a Sunday
By: LuminaMalkavya Date: October 18, 2015, 8:45 am
---------------------------------------------------------
( I literally can't draw today since I messed up my hand, so I
figured, why not RP? )
Lumina stormed through the less familiar streets of
Mobotropolis. How DARE her uncle send her out here to do the
shopping?! Who did he think he was? She wasn't meant for this
kind of work, she didn't even know what store she was supposed
to find! All he told her was the street it was on, and what they
sold. She had been to three markets on this street with no luck,
and was beginning to think that the butler had sent her on a
wild goose chase to get her out of the manor.
"What on earth is beetroot?! And why on EARTH does he need it?!
It sounds dreadful..." She snarled to herself as she walked past
yet another market. She froze and backed up to it, eyeing a
large basket of strawberries on display. Glaring down at the
shopping list in her fist, she grinned. Screw the beetroot,
whatever it was. She was going to buy what she wanted. She would
deal with her uncle later.

Lumina wasn't the only one perusing the market stalls. Ajax had
decided to take some time himself to do a little shopping,
perhaps find a few things that he had been meaning to get but
hadn't had time until now. Still, hearing the woman mere inches
behind him screaming about beetroots wasn't too nice for his
ears. "If you need to find beets, then perhaps you should just
try asking someone?" He turned to her for a moment, a somewhat
'unimpressed' look in his eyes as he glanced over her; her
clothes alone made her out to be quite pompous and
self-entitled, but one would suppose that there had to be a few
people like that in the world for things to be normal, right?

The cat placed a hand on her hip as she turned to face the
stranger, a curious, yet irritated look on her face. How dare
someone talk to her in that manner! But... she hadn't really
thought to ask any of the other shops if they even carried the
product she was looking for. Could she have been mistaken that
every other shop she had been to didn't carry beetroots simply
because she hadn't asked? No! No, no, no, she refused to believe
that she, Lu Malkavya, was in the wrong!
"Its beet ROOT, you! And... and I don't NEED to ask anyone! I
can easily find it on my own! I only stopped HERE for these
strawberries." She crossed her arms and nodded. "Now then," she
grinned back at the basket in front of her as she pulled her
wallet from her purse, but glanced back up at the stranger
curiously. In any other similar situation, she would have made a
scene about commoners needing to learn respect for her and
speaking when spoken to, but she hadn't... maybe it was because
she recognized he was right? She shrugged this off, however, and
decided that maybe she was just too focused on the fruit in
front of her.

Ajax smirked a little; well, pompous as she may be, it was
somewhat humorous how she reacted. "The two names refer to the
same thing, miss. A simple 'commoner' like me would just call
them beets, heheh." In truth, him referring to himself as a
commoner like Lumina was thinking was merely coincidence; he
thought of it somewhat humbly, preferring not to think of
himself as above others typically. However, on another note, he
had also been eyeing the strawberries for a moment; perhaps he
would buy some himself?

She glared at him. "I'm fairly sure its NOT the same thing." She
said in a mocking tone, but honestly, she had no idea. She was
just looking for an excuse to continue arguing. Why on EARTH
would my uncle send me out for beetROOT if he specifically meant
BEET? Its ridiculous!" She snorted, picking up the entire basket
of strawberries. "Maybe commoners like you just have an entirely
different vegetable called beet thats an offbrand of beetroot or
something. They're always making off-brands of things they can't
afford!" She laughed, headed to checkout, and purchasing the
entire basket of strawberries. She grinned triumphantly. She
wasn't sure what she would do with this much fruit, but it felt
good to have something no one else in this specific shop would.
She'd probably regret it later with a stomachache though.

"Heh, well then what do you call this?" Ajax smirked as he held
up a beetroot; while he had been 'hoping' to buy some
strawberries, he was now far more interested in seeing this
little egg crack. Besides, there were always other places to
check for what he needed. "By the way, plants don't change
because of the 'brand name', dear. You think someone with money
like you could afford the best education around to know that,
right?" His smile was more mocking though when one realized he
had the last few beets in that particular area; as he purchased
them, along with a few other perishables, he chuckled and passed
her by. "Come on now, girl like you's gotta have some smarts in
that head of yours, right? I've got some faith."

She stared at the vegetable for a moment before wrinkling her
nose and backing away. "What in the name of the Malkavyen family
is THAT disgusting looking thing?! It looks positively dreadful!
Does my butler think I'm going to EAT that?!" she then paused
and stared back at Ajax, looking furious, yet offended. She then
stomped her food.
"Did you just call me stupid?! A commoner like you?! How rude!
I'll have you know that the homeschooling I receive is just as
good as any 'city school' in Mobotropolis! Who do you think you
are?! And.... I hope those beetroots are disgusting! I didn't
want any anyway!" her last sentence was a last ditch effort to
give off any sort of insult, but even she knew she was beat this
time, and she hated it. The idea only made her even more angry,
as her face turned bright red.

Ajax simply chuckled. "My my, you're quite quick to jump to
hostilities; what I was saying was that I had faith that someone
like you should clearly be in possession a higher grade of
intelligence than someone like me. I imply that you should be
quite a smart girl, and you take it off as me insulting you?" He
simply shook his head, that smirk of his never failing as he
crossed his arms. "As for who I think I am, I think I'm a person
who deserves a little more respect after having fought in more
conflicts, seen more bloodshed, and saved more lives than you
could imagine. I'm a proper veteran who was forced to watch his
parents burn alive." That's when his smile finally went away and
he leaned forward. "With all the hells I've been through, one
could easily say that you are the one being rude. But, a proper
girl in some nice clothes and with a good education shouldn't
have to consider any of that, huh? Meanwhile I grew up with
broken bones and stale bread, not knowing the proper comforts of
a home; you don't realize how lucky you are to have that, do
you?"

Lu blinked, then took a step back. She was no longer in an angry
fluster, instead, a straight up scowl now took its place.
"How DARE you come in here, insult ME, and then demand respect!
You don't know me! I didn't ask for what I have, nor did I ask
to hear your life story. Do you expect me to suddenly feel sorry
for you and apologize? Is that it? Maybe one day you'll realize
that your past doesn't matter to anyone else but you."
She studied Ajax through narrowed eyes. "The only thing that
matters to me is making myself the greatest. I couldn't care
less about how 'lucky' I was to grow up with what I did, not
that someone like you would know anyway. I would have still come
up on top. Fancy clothes and schooling have nothing to do with
it. But your life is not, nor will it ever be, any of my
concern."

"Well now... You really do have some things to learn still,
don't you?" The lynx shook his head gently. "You should learn
that insults and respect are both two-way streets, and you
should also learn that we are all a product of our pasts. You've
grown up with the world handed to you on a silver platter;
you've already mentioned a butler, I imagine your life must be
quite luxurious. But what happens when everything is crushed
beneath itself and burnt to ash? Because I do, dear, and no
amount of money or angry stamping can fix it." There was nothing
to be gleamed from his expressions, his posture, not even the
twinkle in his eyes; he was a immovable statue, holding the
doors his inner thoughts closed. "Oh, and again, you say I
insult you; perhaps, did you ever take a moment to think about
how I was 'complimenting' you? And how you insulted me in
return? Miss, you are simply receiving what you have given. Even
a commoner understands that."
As he finally turned and began walking out, a few words range in
Lu's ears. "Malkavyen, was it?.. Perhaps I will stop by and give
your family the beets they asked you to get..."
