Although it looks like a regular salamander, the yellow spotted
salamander is completely unique because its embryos use the sun
for energy. They have algae inside of their cells that give them
oxygen and carbohydrates. This feature that though, of course,
necessary in green plants, is not so common in animals. A sea
slug, aphid, and hornets are other creatures that share this
ability. However, the yellow spotted salamander (Ambystoma
maculatum) is the only known photosynthetic vertebrate! In fact,
before this finding, it was thought to be impossible.
What is yellow spotted and secretly green?
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-080822134120-1716808.gif
Yellow spotted salamanders actually look pretty normal; they
aren’t green or anything. As the name suggests, the salamander
is black with yellow spots. It is very common in North America.
However, while the embryo is developing it undergoes
photosynthesis. The reason why has to do with the salamander’s
life history. The adults go to pools of water to mate and breed.
Yellow salamanders only breed in ponds without fish because,
otherwise, their larvae would be gobbled up. However, fishless
ponds don’t contain very much oxygen. This problem is solved by
       adding algae into the mix.

It has been known for a long time that the eggs have a symbiotic
relationship with algae; the eggs are bright green. Only
recently, a researcher from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia
discovered that at a certain period in their development,
embryos contain algae within their cells. Part of the green
colour of the eggs comes from the embryos themselves.
       A two-way relationship
The algae only move into the embryo after parts of the
salamander’s nervous system has developed. Looking at time-lapse
videos, you can see a flash of green at this time, which is a
small algae bloom. The developing embryo releases nitrogen-rich
waste at about this time, giving the algae food. Some algae
could make it in the embryo at this time.
Once in the salamander, the algae stick near its mitochondria.
Mitochondria create energy for animal cells from oxygen and a
metabolic form of glucose. The algae appear to be giving oxygen
and carbohydrates (the products of photosynthesis) directly to
the salamander cells that contain them. The salamander could be
using these byproducts to help its own energy production. In
return, the embryo gives the algae nitrogen-rich waste and CO2.
The algae have also been found in the oviducts of female spotted
salamanders. The mother may have the algae already and be
passing it down to its offspring by putting it into the egg sac.

       Uncommon ability
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-120422122407-668805.gif
The yellow spotted salamander is the first vertebrate to have a
photosynthetic symbiont. Before, it was thought to be impossible
because vertebrates have an adaptive immune system that should
destroy any foreign biologically material. Therefore, it was
believed that vertebrates weren’t able to have a symbiont living
in them. The spotted salamander may have gotten around this
obstacle by turning their immune system off or by the algae not
being recognised as foreign. However, the real answer isn’t
       known yet.
As mentioned, photosynthetic animals are extremely rare and all
of the other known cases are invertebrates. The others use
slightly different methods to harness solar energy, most
commonly by containing some form of microalgae or cyanobacteria
inside of them. For example, the emerald green sea slug, Elysia
chlorotica, even has genes to sustain the chloroplasts that it
contains. It can live for up to nine months without eating
       anything :o.

few features with leaves. Image credits: Patrick Krug Cataloging
       Diversity in the Sacoglossa LifeDesk.[/center]
The pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum) has a fungal gene that
       produces carotenoids.
       [center]

red eyes. The antennae of Acyrthosiphon pisum are 1.0-1.6 times
       as long as the body.[/center]
A bit differently, oriental hornets (Vespa orientalis) conduct
electricity from their exoskeletons, silk, and comb walls. The
hornet’s yellow bands contain xanthopterin that absorbs light
and turns it into electricity. Unfortunately, this same material
       makes an inefficient solar panel.

       Europe and Malta[/I]
  HTML http://www.maltawildplants.com/!faunafungi/maltawildlife.php?species=Vespa%20orientalis[/center]
All in all, the yellow spotted salamander is unique in being
able to photosynthesize. It has shattered previous perceptions
and [i]opened the idea that other vertebrates may also have a
       symbiotic relationship with algae.
[center]So there you have it— salamander embryos that take
       energy from the sun. [/center]

Yes, Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence — Let’s
       Hear Some for Darwinian Evolution

[center]Yes, Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence
       — Let’s Hear Some for [glow=brown,2,300]Darwinian
       Evolution[/glow][/center]
Carl Sagan famously said on his TV series Cosmos, “I believe
that the extraordinary should be pursued. But extraordinary
claims require extraordinary evidence.” I agree. You shouldn’t
change the entire direction of science based on a few isolated
       pieces of evidence.
       [glow=teal,2,300]Intelligent design (ID) proponents[/glow] make
an extraordinary claim, that the origin and evolution of life
cannot be explained without postulating [glow=teal,2,300]a
guiding intelligence[/glow]. If this idea becomes generally
accepted it will be a huge change in the direction of science,
so the scientific establishment is justified in dragging its
feet. But the evidence for intelligent design does not consist
of a few missing fossils or a few examples of irreducible
complexity, which could eventually be shown to be reducible.
[glow=teal,2,300]ID advocates[/glow] believe we have long ago
passed the threshold of evidence required to accept
[glow=teal,2,300]this extraordinary claim[/glow] and that every
new discovery in biology and biochemistry pushes us farther
beyond the threshold. Evolution News readers are exposed to this
       evidence daily.
       Another [glow=brown,2,300]Extraordinary Claim[/glow]
But less noticed is that ID [glow=brown,2,300]opponents[/glow]
also make an extraordinary claim. They believe that they have
found, or at least will eventually find,
       [glow=brown,2,300]natural, unintelligent, causes capable
of[/glow] [glow=teal,2,300]creating[/glow] things which in our
uniform experience are known to be created only by
       [glow=teal,2,300]intelligence[/glow].
I have often argued (most recently here
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-120422122257-657398.png
  HTML https://evolutionnews.org/2022/01/the-underlying-principle-behind-the-second-law/)<br
       />that to attribute to [glow=red,2,300]natural selection[/glow]
the ability to create [b][glow=green,2,300]spectacular order
[/glow]out of [glow=red,2,300]disorder[/glow] is to attribute to
       [glow=red,2,300]it[/glow], alone among [glow=red,2,300]all
unintelligent forces[/glow] in the universe, the
       [glow=blue,2,300]ability[/glow] to [glow=red,2,300]defy[/glow]
the more general statements of the [glow=navy,2,300]second law
of thermodynamics[/glow], or at least the
       [glow=navy,2,300]general principle [/glow]behind this law.
[/b]But it is not really necessary to appeal to the second law
because everyone can see that Darwin’s claim to have discovered
       an [glow=brown,2,300]unintelligent force capable of[/glow]
       [glow=teal,2,300]creating [/glow][glow=green,2,300]all the
magnificent species in the living world[/glow], and even
       [glow=green,2,300]human brains[/glow], was quite an
       extraordinary claim. It credits [glow=red,2,300]natural
       selection[/glow] with [glow=teal,2,300]creative powers[/glow]
far beyond those claimed for any other natural causes.
(Origin-of-life researchers’ claim that chance chemical
processes could have created the first self-replicators, when
human engineered self-replicating machines are still far beyond
current technology, could also be considered to be an
       extraordinary claim.)
And where do we stand with regard to evidence for the
Darwinists’ extraordinary claim? Have we passed the threshold of
evidence required to accept their claim? Hardly. The ongoing
debate between Michael Behe and his critics is over whether or
not there is evidence that natural selection of random mutations
can be credited with any evolutionary changes that would not be
considered “devolution” and do not simply “promote the loss of
genetic information.” And evolutionists now openly wonder if
they need an entirely new theory. While the evidence for the
extraordinary claim made by design theorists continually
increases, the evidence for the Darwinists’ claim seems to be
       shrinking.
       “Why Evolution Is Different”
In my 2020 video “Why Evolution Is Different” I imagine watching
a tornado running backward and trying to come up with a
scientific explanation for what we are seeing. It concludes:
       --- Quote ---
       > Anyone who claims to have a scientific explanation for how
unintelligent agents might be able to turn rubble into houses
and cars would be expected to produce some very powerful
evidence if they want their theory to be taken seriously. The
burden of proof should be equally heavy on those who claim to
have a scientific explanation for how a few unintelligent forces
of physics alone could rearrange the basic particles of physics
into computers and encyclopedias and Apple iPhones — and there
is no evidence that natural selection of random mutations can
explain anything other than very minor adaptations.
       --- End Quote ---
Some observers of the ID-Darwinism debate feel that the
Darwinian point of view is the default so that the burden of
proof is on us. But it is extraordinary that we are here at all,
so any ideas about how we got here should require extraordinary
       evidence.

Hmmmm, I see some excellent examples of the Backfire effect, but
that is par for the course for those who have accepted the
Theory of Evolution as reality based. Rather than address the
issue brought up by a real scientist about whether or not the
cell membrane could have evolved from random undirected
processes (NOTE: the graphic above from Organic Chemist Dr.
James Tour also evidences how wrong evolutionists are about cell
membrane origins.), appeals to Evolution Theory Academic
consensus and authority, plus questioning the credentials of
said scientist with the temerity to question Evolution Theory
       ensued. &#128533;

If you Darwinists are so sure that &#129421; Evolution Theory
can hold its own in any argument about any part of a cell or any
       biological mechanism that has the appearance of &#9757;&#127995;
Design, why do you refuse to argue the merits, if not because
you are very uncomfortable with the very idea that we do not
       live in a random universe?
Let us forget our disparate worldviews and let us REASON
together, shall we? Yeah, I'm a Christian and I do not want any
of you to miss out on God's offer of Salvation through Jesus
Christ, but that is irrelevant to the nuts and bolts subject of
biological mechanisms. Either something COULD evolve or
something, that is alive and thrives right now, COULD NOT have
evolved. Now you all think everything that is alive evolved from
some simpler life form through survival if the fittest natural
selection. If that is true, then you need to seriously
challenge, with facts, not opinions, ANY science based claim
       that argues against that assumption.
I'm not here to give you a hard time. If you want to believe
       this or that, you have free will to do that. I'm just &#129312;
gonna post about lots of fascinating animals that we share this
planet with. If you can explain, with facts, not opinons, how
these animals evolved all the amazing processes in their anatomy
and physiology, 'step by step' when they do not work unless the
whole mechanism is present from the getgo, then please do.
Or, you can be honest, like this fellow that I respect for his
       honesty:

       />[/center]

Darwin was honest too. Why do you suppose most Darwinists only
read what they want to read about what he wrote?

[center]Here, for your study and amicable discussion, is the
       amazing Lampsylis Mussel.
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-120422122505-6702373.gif<br
       />
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-040622153110-13711724.gif[/center]
I suggest, for the sake of NON-argument, to all of you who
believe Evolution is scientifically valid, that you please elect
a volunteer, who does not sneer (e.g. K-Dog), to explain to me,
without breaking the rules you established here about reasoned
and civilized (i.e. no Ad hom or other forms of verbal abuse
like disdain, sarcasm, ridicule etc. allowed, you know what I
       mean)
  HTML https://soberthinking.createaforum.com/gallery/soberthinking/1-040622153109-13691906.gif<br
/>debate, how the Lampsylis Mussel "evolved" its method of
reproduction. Please remember, though too many evolutionist
forget, that it had to work the FIRST TIME, or there wouldn't be
any happy Lampsylis Mussels around today using a very specific
species of fish to ensure the survival of a new generation of
Lampsylis Mussels. Please spare me terms like "co-evolution" and
"common ancestors". Fish and mussels, even by evolutionary
biology standards are not even remotely similar genetically.
Mussels cannot see. Mussels have no eyes. Mussels never had any
eyes. Without EYES an organism CANNOT 'select' through 'random
undirected processes' from different types of muscle pattern and
color to use as a lure. YET, a small portion of their 'foot'
muscle perfectly mimics, IN COLOR AND PATTERN, the APPEARANCE of
a species of fish that a very specific type of bass loves to
eat. Evolutionists claim this took place over "millions of
years". That is obviously false because mussels of this species
would have been 'selected OUT' (i.e. DIED OFF due to NO VIABLE
OFFSPRING, EXTINCT, you get the idea) if they could not do this
from the FIRST generation. To understand why that is so, watch
       the video. &#129488;
