The White House says official US policy hasn't changed on
Taiwan, but it doesn't matter. Biden's made clear this is his
policy, and whether he would follow through or not, that's the
message that's been conveyed to China. This isn't dementia, it's
deliberate.

I don't know why the US president keeps verbally committing his
armed forces to a third world war against a nuclear-armed nation
only to have it walked back over and over again by the
administration he's supposed to be in charge of. Is this just
some neurological glitch in an aging brain which promoted war
and militarism throughout its entire time in office? Is it some
weird new tactic in "strategic ambiguity" to have different
parts of the administration saying completely different things
in totally unambiguous ways? Is Biden just a crazy warmonger? I
don't know. But what I do know is that all this chaos and
confusion is happening at the worst possible time.
As Brett Wilkins explains for Common Dreams, a new bill from the
US Senate Foreign Relations &#129430;&#128013;&#129421;&#128009;
Committee threatens to bring the world much closer to a horrific
war due to the way it would upend existing US policy on China
with its recognition of Taiwan as a major "non-NATO ally" as
part of a commitment to send billions of dollars worth of
weapons to the island.
Fears of what this could unleash upon our world have caused even
fairly reliable empire facilitators like Ed Markey to vote
against the bill, which Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson
Mao Ning says would "greatly shake the political foundation of
China-US relations and cause extremely serious consequences to
China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan
Strait."
This is just one of the ways that tensions with China are being
ramped up with astonishing speed over Taiwan, among them also
the normalization of sending an increasingly high number of US
officials to Taipei in steadily rising contempt for Washington's
One China policy which has kept the peace along this flashpoint
for decades.
This Taiwan situation is getting uglier and uglier, much faster
than many expected, and the president of the world's mightiest
war machine is either two stupid, too bloodthirsty, too careless
or too demented to navigate this situation with the sensitivity
it deserves. Things never should have been allowed to get this
far, and the US empire is showing us every indication that it
intends to take things much, much further.

This is a truly dangerous situation. The U.S. has been seriously
weakened by 40+ years of deindustrialization, internal strife
and divisions, and over 20 years of the ruinous GWOT wars.
Meanwhile China has emerged as the largest industrial power on
the planet, a position held by the U.S. for 100 years.
Taiwan is in a much more advantageous location for China to
exercise power, than it is for the U.S. military to �defend�.
The Pentagon has conducted several exercises simulating the
likely outcome of a serious clash with China, and the Chinese
win every time. Clever diplomacy would extend the status quo for
another decade or so. During that time Taiwan could continue to
supply medium to high-end computer chips to the world, including
both the U.S. and China. A knock down drag out war over Taiwan
would be a disaster for the entire world.

True. The problem we Americans have right now with our Fascists

I'm no expert on China, but the survival math is on their side
if this insanity goes nuclear. Also, China doesn't appear to be
in any mood whatsoever to submit to any more pushng around
humilation. I suspect they have extensive underground air
filtered (well stocked for years of food and water) facilities
for TPTB in China already. They could lose 90% of their

The events that took place 21 years ago in New York City,
Virginia, and Pennsylvania have taken a contested place in U.S.
history. They joined an ever growing list of mysterious and
unexplained events that have taken place and that play some
role, along with more blatant and obvious actions, in the
implementation of the Ruling Class agenda in the U.S. and on the
world in general. Every year on the 11th of September, The
Corporate Controlled Media dutifully presents the official
story, with somber reading of lists of victims and other
ceremonies, acting as if there is no reasonable doubt as to its
veracity.
I personally do not believe the official story, and in response
to the standard observances at the Pentagon and at Ground Zero,
I wanted to just point out a couple of the more glaring
inconsistencies with the official explanation, specifically the
building 7 situation. I agree with Collectivist Action's
statement below, that this set of comments seem to have run out
of much to say. But, even just once a year we need to take a
look at the most outrageous and spectacular terrorism stunt in
human history.

This is a campaign to protect a beautiful inhabited mountain in
Montenegro from being turned into a military base. The people of
Montenegro, led by the Save Sinjajevina campaign, have done
everything people can do to prevent atrocities in so-called
democracies:
They�ve won over public opinion.
They�ve elected officials promising to protect their mountains.
They�ve lobbied, organized public protests, and made themselves
into human shields.
They show no signs of planning to give up, much less to believe

in Britain in 2015 and mounted a grassroots campaign in 2017 to
become the British Prime Minister the ruling corporate elites,
along with the war industry, panicked. They conspired with the
Israel lobby to mount a vicious campaign of character
assassination against Corbyn and his supporters, accusing them,
even if they were Jewish, of anti-Semitism. Corbyn has been a
long-time champion of Palestinian rights. The media did its part
to crucify Corbyn as a bigot while Labour party officials
ruthlessly purged the party of Corbyn supporters. Corbyn was
eventually driven out of the party in 2020 after the snap
election loss against Boris Johnson. The neutralization of
Corbyn is an ominous precedent. The purging of Corbyn and his
supporters effectively emasculated the left within the Labour
Party. This was its goal. The unholy alliance between Israel,
the war industry and the corporatists raise the question of
whether it is possible in Britain or the United States to reform

[center]Palestinians Speak the [glow=red,2,300]Language of

The indiscriminate shootings of Israelis by Hamas and other
Palestinian resistance organizations, the kidnapping of
civilians, the barrage of rockets into Israel, drone attacks on
a variety of targets from tanks to automated machine gun nests,
are the familiar language of the Israeli occupier. Israel has
spoken this blood-soaked language of violence to the
Palestinians since Zionist militias seized more than 78 percent
of historic Palestine, destroyed some 530 Palestinian villages
and cities and killed about 15,000 Palestinians in more than 70
massacres. Some 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed
between 1947 and 1949 to create the state of Israel in 1948.
Israel�s response to these armed incursions will be a genocidal
assault on Gaza. Israel will kill dozens of Palestinians for
every Israeli killed. Hundreds of Palestinians have already died
in Israel air assaults since the launch of �Operation Al-Aqsa
Flood� on Saturday morning, which left 700 Israelis dead.
Prime Minister &#128127;[glow=red,2,300] Netanyahu[/glow] warned
Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday to �leave now,� because Israel is
going to �turn all Hamas hiding places into rubble.�
But where are Palestinians in Gaza supposed to go? Israel and
Egypt blockade the land borders. There is no exit by air or sea,
which are controlled by Israel.
The collective retribution against innocents is a familiar
tactic employed by colonial rulers. We used it against Native
Americans and later in the Philippines and Vietnam. The Germans
used it against the Herero and Namaqua in Namibia. The British
in Kenya and Malaya. The Nazis used it in the areas they
occupied in the Soviet Union, Eastern and Central Europe. Israel
follows the same playbook. Death for death. Atrocity for
atrocity. But it is always the occupier who initiates this
macabre dance and trades piles of corpses for higher piles of
corpses.
This is not to defend the war crimes by either side. It is not
to rejoice in the attacks. I have seen enough violence in the
Israeli occupied territories, where I covered the conflict for
seven years, to loathe violence. But this is the familiar
denouement to all settler-colonial projects. Regimes implanted
and maintained by violence engender violence. The Haitian war of
liberation. The Mau Mau in Kenya. The African National Congress
in South Africa. These uprisings do not always succeed, but they
follow familiar patterns. The Palestinians, like all colonized
people, have a right to armed resistance under international
law.
Israel never had any interest in an equitable settlement with
the Palestinians. It built an apartheid state and has steadily
absorbed larger and larger tracts of Palestinian land in a slow
motion campaign of ethnic cleansing. It turned Gaza in 2007 into
the world�s largest open air prison.
What does Israel, or the world community, expect? How can you
trap 2.3 million people in Gaza, half of whom are unemployed, in
one of the most densely populated spots on the planet for 16
years, reduce the lives of its residents, half of whom are
children, to a subsistence level, deprive them of basic medical
supplies, food, water and electricity, use attack aircraft,
artillery, mechanized units, missiles, naval guns and infantry
units to randomly slaughter unarmed civilians and not expect a
violent response? Israel is currently carrying out waves of
aerial assaults on Gaza, preparing a ground invasion and has cut
the power to Gaza, which usually only operates two to four hours
per day.
Many of the resistance fighters who infiltrated into Israel
undoubtedly knew they would be killed. But like resistance
fighters in other wars of liberation they decided that if they
could not choose how they would live, they would choose how they
would die.
I was a close friend of Alina Margolis-Edelman who was part of
the armed resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in World War
II. Her husband, [glow=blue,2,300]Marek Edelman[/glow], was the
deputy commander of the uprising and the only leader to survive
the war. The Nazis had sealed 400,000 Polish Jews inside the
Warsaw Ghetto. The trapped Jews died in the thousands, from
starvation, disease and indiscriminate violence. When the Nazis
began to transport the remaining Jews to the extermination camps
the resistance fighters fought back. None expected to survive.
[glow=blue,2,300]Edelman[/glow], after the war, condemned
Zionism as a racist ideology used to justify the theft of
Palestinian land. He sided with the Palestinians, supported
their armed resistance and met frequently with Palestinians
leaders. He thundered against Israel�s appropriation of the
Holocaust to justify its repression of the Palestinian people.
While Israel dined out on the mythology of the ghetto uprising,
it treated the only surviving leader of the uprising, who
refused to leave Poland, as a pariah.
[glow=blue,2,300]Edelman[/glow] understood that the lesson of
the Holocaust and the ghetto uprising was not that Jews are
morally superior or eternal victims. History,
[glow=blue,2,300]Edelman[/glow] said, belongs to everyone. The
oppressed, including the Palestinians, had a right to fight for
equality, dignity and liberty.
�To be a Jew means always being with the oppressed and never the
oppressors,� [glow=blue,2,300]Edelman[/glow] said.
The Warsaw uprising has long inspired the Palestinians.
Representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)
used to lay a wreath at the annual commemoration of the uprising
in Poland at the Warsaw Ghetto monument.
The more [glow=maroon,2,300]violence[/glow] the colonizer
expends to subdue the occupied, the more it
[glow=maroon,2,300]transforms itself into a monster[/glow]. The
current government of Israel is populated by Jewish extremists,

The Israeli philosopher [glow=blue,2,300]Yeshayahu
Leibowitz[/glow], whom Isiah Berlin called �the conscience of
Israel,� warned that if Israel did not separate church and state
it would give rise to a corrupt rabbinate that would warp
Judaism into a fascistic cult.
�[glow=red,2,300]Religious nationalism[/glow] is to
[glow=blue,2,300]religion[/glow] what [glow=red,2,300]National
Socialism[/glow] was to socialism,� said Leibowitz, who died in
1994.
He understood that the blind veneration of the military,
especially after the 1967 war that captured Egypt's Sinai, Gaza,
the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and Syria's Golan
Heights, was dangerous and would lead to the ultimate
destruction of Israel, along with any hope of democracy.
�Our situation will deteriorate to that of a second Vietnam, to
a war in constant escalation without prospect of ultimate
resolution,� he warned.
He foresaw that �the Arabs would be the working people and the
Jews the administrators, inspectors, officials, and police �
mainly secret police. A state ruling a hostile population of 1.5
million to 2 million foreigners would necessarily become a
secret-police state, with all that this implies for education,
free speech and democratic institutions. The corruption
characteristic of every colonial regime would also prevail in
the State of Israel. The administration would have to suppress
Arab insurgency on the one hand and acquire Arab Quislings on
the other. There is also good reason to fear that the Israel
Defense Force, which has been until now a people�s army, would,
as a result of being transformed into an army of occupation,
degenerate, and its commanders, who will have become military
governors, resemble their colleagues in other nations.�
He saw that prolonged occupation of the Palestinians would
inevitably spawn �concentration camps.�
�Israel,� he said, �would not deserve to exist, and it will not
be worthwhile to preserve it.�
The next stage of this struggle will be a massive campaign of
industrial slaughter in Gaza by Israel, which has already begun.
Israel is convinced greater levels of violence will finally
crush Palestinian aspirations. Israel is mistaken. The terror
Israel inflicts is the terror it will get.

I understand totally why this finally happened. Now that it has,
there are lots of questions:
1. This looks at first blush like a failure of Israeli
Intelligence. Was it really? Or was the idea hatched to let it
happen, in order to accomplish the genocide that Netenyahu has
clearly threatened and, as Chris has stated, has already begun?
2. Of course, the US would have to sign onto the genocidal
response, which the Zionist/ US propaganda machine has,
basically, already done. The ahistorical and ludicrous
�unprovoked� meme has been relentlessly used in every response I
have seen come out of our inverse-totalitarian blob. So fast,
one has to wonder about the possibility of prior knowledge of
the �sneak� attack amongst our elites, which would have had to
have come from Israeli intelligence.
3. Making no assumption about whether this attack was truly a
surprise to Israeli authorities, once the �shock and awe� part
of the operation was complete, what is Hamas� strategy going
forward? It may have expected a revolt to organically occur in
the West Bank. If that has happened in a major way, I haven�t
heard about it. West Bank Palestinians have a far more difficult
position given the chopped-up nature of the places in which they
now live, and their subjugation not only by Israel, but also the
Palestinian Authority, which long since has been an Israeli
cat�s paw. If Hamas counted on this, it was overly optimistic
4. Was it counting on Syria, Lebanon or Hezbollah joining in?
Syria and Lebanon are so weak they cannot even defend themselves
from Israeli depradations, made possible, of course, by the
power and might of the US Empire. Will Hezbollah do something?
So far, it is hanging back.

difficult time doing anything except showering Israel with
missiles, which seems very unlikely UNLESS Israel proceeds with

Netenyahu[/glow]. Was that the idea behind the Hamas sneak
attack? Or is it the [glow=red,2,300]desired result[/glow] of
the Israeli response to an attack it knew was coming, in order
that its [glow=red,2,300]long-desired[/glow] destruction and
genocide of Iran, after such an intervention by Iran to prevent
the Israeli genocide in Gaza, might finally proceed with US
approval?
6. Iran is now a Russian and Chinese ally. Do the denizens of
the great court of the US Empire, which includes the denizens of
Israel, suppose that Russia and, to a lesser extent, China,
would not respond to these events in kind, or close enough to
�in kind� to take the situation well past the brink, given the
almost certain US reaction to THEIR reactions?
There is a theory out there that World War III has already
begun. It just didn�t start with an omnicidal thermonuclear
exchange, as many of us, including myself, thought it would
begin. And end. As the great satirist Tom Lehrer expected, in an
hour and a half. We are working up to it, slowly. Given that a
permanent Cuban Missile Crisis has apparently been created just
in the Ukraine-centered conflict alone, it seems to me those
theorists are correct. World War III HAS begun. It is just a
matter of time before the omnicidal thermonuclear exchange that
will end it. The events that are the subject of Chris� essay and
the responses to it have, I am afraid, shortened that time
considerably.

Shortly after I posted this, Hezbollah issued a strong statement
indicating that it was joining the battle. Meanwhile, Russia,
which evidently has a strong relationship with the IDF, is
leaning the other way. I stand, or sit, corrected. Except re:
the the conclusion that we have all taken a significant step
forward towards oblivion.
