       Letters from grandma
       By: bening97 Date: April 21, 2011, 12:53 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
My grandma loves to send me little care packages every
commercial holiday season. I always get them after each holiday
is over though since then all the respective festive decoration
move to clearance isle. In this latest package I received a
       message from grandma.
       Austin,
My grnadparents (Mother’s parents) lived about 15 minutes north
of where we live now. That was country then. They didn’t have
electricity until the 1940’s – thus no toilets. They had
outhouses. My grandparents had a two seater – in case of an
       emergency I guess.
Toilet paper was not always available but there was always
Sears Roebuck catalog on the shelf for reading or whatever.
There were always a lot of pages missing.
The story was the corn cobs were always available. They were
free and biodegradable. They could be used in the fields too if
an arose. We were told you get 2 red ones and 1 white one. You
used a red one first. Then a white one to see if you needed the
       other red one.
I’m sending you a sample. If you should try to use them, I
would suggest you remove the last few corn kernels first.
       Love,
       G
From you your experience in Costa Rice you can see their value.
As I looked in the box, low and behold there were two red cobs
and a white one with a few kernels still attached. I think it's
be awesome if we did a dramatic reading of this letter over top
a reenactment of being on the toilet, and realizing you have
nothing but a corn cob to wipe with.
