Weed Eater Leaf Blower was starving for fuel
By: IndyDude Date: September 28, 2014, 1:18 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have a leaf blower that is about 15 years old and about 5
       years ago stopped running.
It would start, then die right away. It sounded like it wanted
to run and run well, but would just die.
I finally got around to finding time to check that sucker out. I
thought the carb was dirty, so I removed it and opened it up. I
did find a few small insignificant pieces of dirt inside, but
know that sometimes even the smallest amount of debris can cause
       issues.
As I was reassembling it back into the blower, I had
accidentally tugged on the fuel line when it just pulled up out
of the engine casing. It looked as if it was eaten away. It was
actually dissolved by the fuel. I couldn't see the other end of
the fuel line, so I had to tear the blower down a bit more to
gain access to the gas tank.
After draining the 5 year old fuel, I found what was left of the
fuel line and filter it was attached to. The fuel line literally
dissolved between my fingers as I squished it.
I found some new fuel line, got everything reassembled and the
sucker started right up after about 5 swift pulls.
I put 3 year old dirt bike racing fuel in it, as that was all I
had available at the time. It ran as if it was a new blower.
I was so happy to have finally figured out what was wrong with
it and smelling burnt racing fuel made my day all that better.
       :)
