The Players
High Captain Song, Frode of Kassau
Jane of Earth
Frode:
-=Pilgrim's Road=-
Is traveling along Pilgrim's Road leading to and from the Sardar
says to ALL: "He used to work at Sardar Fair,
In a clothing store.
He used to work at Sardar Fair.
He did but he don’t any more.
A lady came in for some garb.
He asked her what kind she wore.
Jumper she said. So jump her he did.
And he don’t work there any more!"
I grin as my First Mate Pike rolls his eyes. He's become
accustom to my habit of singing while we work. His face may stay
sour, but I know the old salt enjoys the tunes to pass the time,
same as the rest of the crew making the journey island. Of
course the will be work once we reach the fair, loading and
unloading and guarding while my Mate and Co-Captain and I wheel
and deal to unload what we have and see what else we might find
among the goods to be traded and bought. Well, in truth Malora
will do most of the wheeling and dealing. While I am good at
scrounging and bargaining, my talents lie elsewhere. For before
I became a Captain and won my ship along with my Love in a
long-past game of chance, I was a Skald and storyteller. In
truth, I still am that, and my talents in paying the drum in
cittern have not dulled in that time. It is for that reason I
became known as Captain Song among the Pirate Council, such
colorful applications being common.
I continue the tune even as I steer the bosk-driven wagon down
the road to the fair, keeping an eye out for bandits and outlaws
as I do. While I have little fear of the slavers that often
harass the pilgrim roads, for it is said to be bad luck to slow
a bard in his travels, the outlaws, Panthers and brigands rarely
have such qualms and I do have a wagon with several attractive
slaves attending the fair with me.
Jane:
-=Pilgrim's Road=-
Is traveling along Pilgrim's Road leading to and from the Sardar
she had fled from the slaver they had bound her only with twine
she had cut thru her bonds with a stolen shard of glass. and she
had run naked naked as the day she was born, she stuck to the
side of the road, she looked back and saw a wagon approaching
from the opposite direction, in wordless panic she dived into
the forest away from the road away from the wagon and the men of
Gor.
Frode:
I pull up on the reigns as I see the flash of movement in the
forest and make out a bit of tanned skin and crimson hair. I
raise a hand and the wagons behind me stop as well. I glance
around warily, expecting more signs of movement or the prelude
to an ambush. When it does not arrive, I pause and look to Pike.
"This could be a trap," the old salt says.
"You think everything is a trap." I respond.
The old salt chuckles. "Aye, Captain. Which is why I'm still
alive."
I shrug in response as I pass him the reigns and nod to two of
the sailors who have come forth at my signal. "We're a bit too
far inland and far from the forest for the Panthers to be
ambushing us and they rarely attack Men on the roads. I doubt
one of them would streak through the forest as a distraction,
either. Still, hold for five minutes, and if I'm not back....
well, send Malora after me."
"Like I could stop her." Pike grumbles. I say nothing but I draw
my long-knife, 11 inches long as I head into the forest with my
similarly armed sailors behind me. In the thick growth of the
forest, my sword will have little reach but I suspect I will not
need the weapon this day.
Jane:
She darted 20 feet in a hurried not stealth journey then she
went to her belly behind a tree her blue eyes peered up fixed on
3 figures 3 armed figures entering the forest she prayed they
would not see er she staid low she staid quiet even as her heart
pounded.
Frode:
Between the tree not being quite big enough to hide behind and
my own skills in woodcraft, forged by a childhood raised in the
Northern forests, I easily pick up your trail and spot you,
lying on your belly behind the tree, trying to go unnoticed. I
pause as I look around, again suspecting ambush, for no one
would wander the forests near the pilgrim road in such a
state.... unless they were an escaping slave or one escaping
slavers, who are known to prowl the roads before the
fairgrounds. After all, while there are rules against snaring
unwilling captives within the Fair, such rules do not apply on
the open road and many slaver bands seek to expand their
inventories from those Pilgrims coming to honor the Priest
Kings.
"Halt." I say in Gorean, gauging your response. A thought occurs
to me then, as I speak one of the few phrases I learned in the
English language from a slave said to come from Earth. "Hold on.
I mean you no harm."
Jane:
she looked up as your eyes went to her as you spoke english she
stood for clearly you knew were she was she stood naked slender
short maybe 5 foot 2 she was pretty no se was beautiful in a
delicate sort of way her beauty marred by a bruise that closed
her left eye her hair was flame red cut short she stood there
tense ready to flee but not moving just staring at you
Frode:
That bruise speaks volumes, as does your response to the
language of Earth. I've cared for a few Earth girls before in my
journeys and they do seem to wind up on the Pilgrim Road in the
days leading up to the fair for some reason. I do not question
this, however, as many unfortunate women escape from slavers
along the Sardar Roads before the fair. There will be time
enough to puzzle this out. I take your hand and begin to guide
you along with me, back to the wagons. A moment later and we are
back on the road, with you in the wagon and your bruises being
treated by a blonde woman in a green tunic who looks at you with
what you recognize as a practiced nurses eye. She too, speaks to
you in English, but the other girls don't show any sign of
recognizing it. "Welcome to our band. I am called Trusty. And
you have no idea how lucky you are....."
