says to ALL: I settled into my stride as I moved down the
street, Pike at His usual place to my right, quietly speaking in
His rumbling voice in a tone and level that gave no chance for
other ears to hear Him. Occasionally I nodded, listening to news
and information that He supplied. There had been several ships
lost in the time between the last Fair and this one, which meant
more paperwork and possible search missions, though honestly it
depended on the cargo of the lost ships. I wasn't going to waste
time or effort if the cargo wasn't worth anything. As for the
crew of those ships, I understood some had been lost, others
rescued. I would ask about them during the meeting I was heading
to.

says to ALL: However, before I head to the meeting proper, I
needed to make a stop. There was a certain Merchant in whom I
had invested quite heavily, however there had been no return on
the investment. Perhaps He'd simply been busy, which was my hope
for Him. If He was busy, then He would be making money and could
then show a return on my investment. Perhaps, however, he'd
simply cut and run. That would be a shame for Him. Truly. Not
only would I see Him liquidated, I'd see Him in chains. But
there was no need to put the cart before the kaillia. I would
pay Him a visit and we would have a nice chat.

says to ALL: I approached His booth and noticed His slave
suddenly seeming to disappear from the booth. Ah, good,
obviously I would already be announced. Saves time. I paused and
waited, being the polite sort that I am. The little traveling
shop itself was nicely appointed and filled with goods that
perhaps would sell here at the Fair. Surely the things that had
been traded for and brought from the four corners of Gor would
bring some interest. And I was curious as to what was held in
the safety of the back room for more .....
demanding....clientele.
I waited for a good few ehn, then glanced at Pike and nodded.
Pike slammed His giant fist against the wooden booth, causing
the entire rig to shake. A surprised yelp emanated from within
the back room and quickly the Merchant popped His head out of
the curtains. "Oh, Captain! Welcome, welcome, please forgive me,
I've been a bit busy..."

says to ALL: I barely gave Pike a glance, but it was enough. He
moved out of the way and I sat on the wooden booth's counter
top, my cloak neatly covering my leathers and tunic, the crimson
mass of curls held off my face by a single, simple silver
hairpin, the head of said pin being a quarter note, not that
many would know the symbol or the reference, it was enough that
I did. I also wore my hat, rakishly enough of a tilt to keep the
hair pin from being disturbed, and my hazel orbs shone slightly
beneath the hat. "Tal Merchant. It is good that You are busy.
Much more conducive to making coin that way."

pleasantries which only irritated me, though I spoke nothing of
it. However, my face isn't exactly a poker face, to be sure, and
He finally paused his diatribe to catch a glimpse of obvious
lack of fucks to give. He carefully paused His steps a good
double arm's length from me. "Is there anything I can help You
with, Captain?"
I inhaled and then smiled pleasantly. "You know, it's good to
see that You are doing well. That tells me it's not going to be
too much trouble for You to give me what is owed. Correct?"

though the tone was more than a little nervous and quiet. "I
don't exactly have what I owe You, Captain. You see, business is
just starting to pick up now, and I haven't had time enough to
get everything together...." He trailed off, looking for all the
world as though He would rather try trading broccoli to sleen. I
cast a glance to Pike, a silent warning for the old salt to
remember that we're at the Fair.
I waved a hand slightly toward my slave. "What do you have that
You can give? I need to see some return on the investment, You
see. Perhaps we could come to an agreement - maybe some of Your
more expensive inventory? No need for coin or we could take
partial payment in coin and partial payment in goods? You
choose."

you to stand. "Help the kind Merchant, pick me out some of this
inventory. Blackwine beans, maybe, or something shiny if He has
it. Or He can give you the coin He owes me." I gave you a
pleasant smile that plainly told you to take your time and make
sure you touch everything, move it about, examine it, make
yourself a complete nuisance to this fellow until He gives you
what I want.

says to .:|Valkyrie of the Seas|: yes, Mistress. ::the slave
quickly bows his head to the merchant, in part to show
respect...and also to hide a grin. this is not one of her "b
quick about it, slave!" commands. and while the merchant may be
a FM, the slave belongs to his Mistress and serves Her. he moves
to a shelf and unties a bag of blackwine beams...careful not to
spill any and give the merchant an excuse to hand him back to
Lady Malora. he leans down ad sniffs the beans000000008, and
then reties the bag, perhaps not as carefully as it was when he
opened it. here is a case when a lie...a little one..to a Free
may be justified because it serves his Mistress. "not really
first quality, Mistress." he then turns to a bag of Bazi tea,
again unties it and sniffs it. this time he does not say
anything but wrinkles his nose as if the tea also is just not
top of the line. the merchant begins to tap his toe and the
slave looks over to his owner as if to tell the merchant, sorry,
Master, but this one serves his Mistress.::

of dried dates, sula chips, and so forth, and the slave merely
looks at those and shakes his head...they're in fact OK but he
looks to his Mistress and shrugs as if they are not worthy of
being exchanged in return for the debt she is owed. the merchant
makes a noise somewhre on the grumpy side of a sigh and
continues to tap his foot. the slave moves...not too quickly,
from the various foods, again shaking his head as if none of
thois is suitable for his Mistress, whose interest he must
serve. he ten moves to an area of the booth where he examines
pots, pans, and various implements and vessels. in fat the
Mistress has no interest in such things. the little kitchen at
Her Fair stall is adequately supplied and She has plenty of such
things at home. still, he makes a point of carefully examining
each item, and touching them, his gestures showing that no, this
pan is too thin for much cooking use. he takes a fork and puts
his fingertip on a tine as if he is about to try t bend it back
and show its poor quality. the slave wonders whether some prices
will have to be ireduced because they have been handled by a a
slave...but the FM says nothing and his Mistress commanded that
he assess the goods in He inerst and he must serve Her and only
Her. again, he says nothing disrespectful and if the merchant
chooses to interpret his gestures and expression to mean that
the stuff is just not worth very much, not very good, not close
to meeting the merchant's obligation to his Owner, well...he is
only a slave and and he has said nothing impudent or done
anything that can only be inerpreted as impudent.::

amusement as you did exactly what I expected of you, which was
to make this particular Merchant's life a bit of a living hell
for the moment. The more you went over, the more irritated He
got. At one point, He took a step toward you, but as He did,
Pike took a step toward Him, which seemed to suddenly have a
calming effect on the poor Merchant who stepped back to place
quite quickly. Finally, the Merchant growled and pulled a small
chest from underneath and just behind what looked to be a stack
of old scrolls and ledgers. He took a small pouch from a shelf
and began to count silver into it, His eyes furious and on you
the entire time.

serves his Owner... and although his instinct was to step away

and touching the slave goods, collars of various sizes, chains,
and to the slave's slight shudder a rather extensive collection
of slave whips and quirts. then when he sees the merchant take
out the small chest and he hears the clink of coins, he steps
back close to his Mistress, bowing to Her, showing he is
prepared to know Her will further.::
