Diomedus' Application
By: Diomedus Date: December 31, 2015, 8:01 am
---------------------------------------------------------
“That’ll be two-hundred and sixty gold.”
“Sounds reasonable,” replied the Forsaken, though he eyed
Diomedus all the same. His yellow eyes were cautious, his rotten
lips pursed as the look continued for what Dio felt was just
longer than entirely necessary. If he didn’t know any better, he
would have wagered that all undead hold contempt for anyone with
decent posture. This gentleman in particular was wizened and
twisted, all rotten bones caught where they weren’t supposed to
be. His movement was clunky too – almost robotic as he finally
broke eye contact and made for the pouch of money on the table
behind him.
Tilting his head sideways to peer around the figure, Diomedus
watched him count out the precise amount and carry it over to a
new bag. Dio whistled – talk about frugal. Although, he supposed
one had to be a careful counter when you were undead. There was
only the rest of eternity before he would eventually rot into
dust. How long would he be conscious for? That was a tangent
that didn’t bear exploring.
“And if you like, sir, I have a young orc on my hands who could
assist you with the fetching and carrying. While I’m certain
your mind is sharp, even apothecaries need things ferrying
around,” Diomedus offered, clapping his hands together with a
show of enthusiasm and grinning. The effect seemed not to
produce much of a reaction from the walking corpse. Dio’s smile
quickly became rather wooden. “Not much in terms of brains, I’m
afraid. He recently failed his Om’riggor, got a nasty kick in
the head from a boar or something.” Still nothing. The gentle
clanging of one coin stacking onto another was the only sound.
“And if nothing else you can pour a few of your concoctions down
his throat. See what happens. I’m sure a fully animated and
intact set of organs are jolly hard to find around here.”
Without turning around, the Forsaken spoke up, his voice all
rusted gears and grinding stones. “How much?”
“I’ll say another two-hundred.”
Silence resumed. It lingered for a few moments.
“One hundred and fifty.”
A shorter pause this time. “One hundred and twenty.”
Diomedus closed the gap between the two of them and leaned over
the desk beside the undead. He did his best not to wrinkle his
nose at the smell even his own potent perfume couldn’t mask.
“One hundred and fourty-five.” He insisted, his voice a little
tenser as he held his hand against the Apothecary’s jaw. It was
brittle and fragile and he wagered the other probably knew that.
Beneath his fingers, the jaw worked a few times. He felt the
tongue sliding this way and that. After another second or two,
the Forsaken nodded. Dio’s fingers immediately released and he
patted the gentleman on the back. The coin counting resumed
until the correct sum was passed along to Dio, who shook it
gently in his hand before tying it to his belt.
“My thanks. It’s been a pleasure doing business with you, sir.
When should I have the Orc and your goods delivered?”

Why do they want to join the Sixty?
Since the collapse of his career at sea, Dio has fallen on hard
times. While the current independent business he has set up is
working alright, he understands the benefits of branching out
and finding an alliance within a group. He seeks the safety in
numbers that the Sixty can bring, and the adrenaline of finding
new ways to get rich quickly, particularly off the back of
others.
What can they do?
Dio has experience working aboard both naval and merchant
vessels, so knows his way around a ship, a crew and the seas.
He’s also a salesman confident in his ability to buy and sell
almost anything at a profit. He has a past of fighting at sea
with swords and guns, but also on shore with his fists.
What would their nickname be?
Face – he likes to think himself charming and wordy, able to
talk his way out of situations. In reality he doesn’t have quite
the immaculate success record he likes to pretend.
Or if that’s a little too similar to Fade; Charming, Sailor????
Idk.
What is their background like?
Radarathas, Cominius, Sicinius and Diomedus. Each brother was
known for something different, and their parents encouraged them
to find their particular niche within the world and seek
perfection. A natural and traditional stepping stone was the
military, and all but Sicinius – who was far too frail – found
their home within it for many years as they tried their mettle.
Radarathas and Cominius each pursued the armed forces, though in
slightly different directions, while Diomedus eagerly sought to
define himself by signing up with Quel’thalas’ naval units.
Life on the oceans was isolated and lonely to a degree, but Dio
naturally took to the other crew members as an extension of his
own family life. Comradery was easy to find, and Dio struck up a
few influential relationships as quickly as his second and third
assignments. Though he never rose high in the ranks, he was a
capable and trusted seaman both on board and in combat.
His method of truly standing out came through his handling of
the cargo. It was not until relatively late in his career that
he was entrusted with this responsibility, and with the thought
of promotion in his sights he took to the position strongly. His
control of finances and spoils bended the regulations a tad, but
the more gold the crew had in their own pockets, the less likely
they were to rat him out.
Following Kael’thas disestablishment of the monarchy and the
unprecedented societal shifts in Quel’thalas, Diomedus failed to
find stable employment in official employment. Two of his
brothers now fought in the Third War while the naval unit
gathered dust. By the time only one of his brother’s returned
home, Dio had guaranteed himself placement on a merchant vessel.
Here, the profit came far more easily – his skills in the
acquisition, bartering and selling of products were far more
useful and, indeed, were only honed here. The selling of many
products particular only to Kalimdor or the Southern reaches of
the Eastern Kingdoms fuelled his income for the next few years.
In some ways, the destruction of so many Sin’dorei and the
resulting shift in allegiances and beliefs – not to mention the
subsequent shortage of almost everything – was personally
beneficial. This continued for some time until without warning
the crew found themselves without a ship to board one summer.
The vessel, its captain, and officers vanished together, along
with the proceeds of their last season of sales.
With little choice, Diomedus retired to civilian life, though
found his abilities and training largely useless in common
society. The money he had set by lasted for so long, but as the
desperation of post-war Quel’Thalas drove him into the depths of
what the city had to offer, his remaining funds seriously
suffered.
When times grew desperate, Dio found himself idle at the docks
he would once work, nostalgic for better times. On one such
occasion, he happened upon an old crewmate, now commanding his
own merchant ship. Seeing an opportunity, Dio was quick to
strike a deal with him and spent the last of his savings on a
portion of harder to shift goods.
Harkening back to his own days as a merchant, Dio successfully
worked up a profit from the goods – mostly cheap liquor,
fabrics, and other merchandise that was either questionable in
its origins or quality – and began returning to his old friend
time and time again. Eventually, he began branching out to
other, unfamiliar vessels, taking unwanted or spoiled cargo off
their hands and moving it on for a higher fee. The money kept
him housed and fed, and usually supplemented his other hobbies –
both savoury and otherwise - though from time to time he took on
a more ethically questionable sale for the larger sum, if only
for the opportunity to spoil himself in the coming weeks. After
all, cargo was still cargo, even if it could breathe.
Any special abilities they have?
A good tactical thinker with an understanding of hierarchy.
Great story-teller, consummate musician, decent at crafting
perfumes, terrible cook.
OOC notes, information:
Greetings and salutations! I’m Beth, I’m nineteen and I’m from
England. I don’t understand how commas work. I’ve been RPing for
a while now but have never managed to find my characters a
long-lasting home no matter how many lonely hearts ads I put out
for them. I’ve got a bit of experience running talky events and
have also run a couple of one-shot table-top RPGs in the past if
that’s ever gonna be relevant. Looking forward to hearing from
you! Have a good one!

FACE! CHOOSE FACE! We can both turn our heads when our names are
called, "Wha? huh?" :D
But awesome, I like the application, it was well-thought out and
fun to read the IC part of it, as well as an insight to your
character's background. Clear answers to all the template Qs, so
thanks for that
So, it is approved from me, thanks for applying and other
officers and members will get back to you soon enough!
