       Application - Sarah Birch (Saneh)
By: Era Date: March 3, 2020, 3:31 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       - How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves?
Well, it is a guild that has existed for a long time. First on
Defias Brotherhood, later on Argent Dawn. In both places, I've
had the opportunity to read the forum thread and encounter the
guild name ingame. I have not had any personal interaction with
the guild per say. However, Sathy, one of your current member is
familiar to me. Spotted him wearing your guild tag, asked him
some questions about the Sixty and here we are.
       - What is your character's name and race?
They are name Sarah Birch (Saneh OOC) and they are a Forsaken
       female.
       - Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
Well... This is going to be long so do bear with me.
Starting from me as a player, I do seek for an environment and
guild to roleplay my character. The requirements I placed based
on my search based on the concept I want to play were: "The
character will want to earn money" and "The character is not
interested in Pro-Horde or Sylvanas Loyalist RP". With those in
mind, It's either a Mercenary of some kind of a Thief. I have
previously roleplayed a Mercenary but not as a dedicated Thief,
so it sounds like something worth trying out. New experiences
       and all that.
Secondly, from what I inquired from Sathy, the guild sounds like
a nice community, good quality RP, a relaxed environment and may
fit me timezone-wise. Apparently a grand many of the members are
from Finland, so I will have someone to relate with my struggle
for timezones. Living on the eastern edge of EU is a pain when
the common RP time of 20:00 servertime RP is your 21:00. I do
have a lot going on in Real Life at the moment; work and study
both, so staying up late is simply not an option. I might also
not be able to play every day, more on weekends, and based on
what I heard from Sathy, that should not be an issue, as members
are expected to go out and do their own thing and make money for
the guild by their own initiative. That might work a lot better
for me than rigorously attending events to progress in a guild.
As to my character, Sarah has an interest to make money and they
possess a flexible moral standard to the means of acquiring it.
They also feel sympathetic towards the plight of thieves, having
an understanding on how hard such a life may be and thus have an
interest to "help" and perhaps find new meaning to un-life that
       way.
       - Tell us about your character's background and how they
       became/are becoming a criminal
Sarah originates from the human kingdom of Gilneas, in where she
grew up in the gutters, an orphaned child having to steal for
their living. The means of survival became a profession and she
worked as a thief by the time of the Worgen Curse hit Gilneas
and was lucky enough to avoid being inflicted.
She fled the country along with the rest of the Gilneans, though
settled eventually to Stormwind and the surrounding regions. Her
career came to a stop there and she spent a good while in the
Stockades until drafted as a conscript to fuel the Alliance War
Machine. She died in battle against the Horde, was "converted"
to Forsaken and partook in the war until she could slip away
from active service shortly after the Banshee Queen fled.
She has been going through a "mid-death crisis"; unsure what to
do with her "un-life". She is somewhat traumatized coming from
the war, and wants to avoid that kind of environment. She has an
interest to make money, to prepare for bad days ahead when she
might need it. As former thief herself but in an unfamiliar
"environment" with the Horde, she would be interested to join a
gang who is already established, so that she doesn't have to
suffer the consequences of lack of in-depth knowledge - which
got her imprisoned in Stormwind in the first place. She is not
entirely sure if she dares to get into stealing again, based on
what happen last time, but she has other skills that an
organized group of criminals may find an use.
       - What kind of skills does your character have?
Sarah is Medic, having wiggled her way into being trained as
one, as a means of avoiding being sent into the front lines.
Healers are valuable. Most of her knowledge she have learned
through practice, some books during moments of quiet.
She has some occult knowledge on magic, having stolen and
studied a few wizard's apprentice spellbooks and had herself
further taught as a Forsaken. That knowledge is haphazard and
patchwork at best, but it has some has practical applications in
       everyday life and curing illness.
Lastly, she has the skillset of a thief, though since dying and
being raised, she has been intentionally pushing it more towards
the back, part due to doubting her own skills as one.
       - How powerful is your character?
Not very. She has some useful skills and knowledge, but that
does not make her powerful. Sure, she is undead, but that just
makes one more brittle. Most that it does for her is being able
to beat anyone in a breath-holding contest underwater. More than
anything, she relies on avoiding being noticed or pre-planning
to come on top. Her toolkit is also not focused towards
straightforward engagement. On top of that she is an
over-cautious coward who would rather bend in the wind and avoid
confrontation than to face trouble head-on.
       - How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
       consequences?
"Conflict in RP" means that several characters have crossing
interests that lead them face to face with each other.
"Roleplaying lives in Conflict". Those are words that I believe
and have lived by. Interactions with DM'ed NPC's tend to have
scripted outcomes. It is not the same with players, who can
think on their own. It is considerably more exciting to end up
at odds with another player, as it makes the whole situation
more real and with real stakes involved.
       - Do you accept character death?
If it comes to that, yes. I have killed my characters off before
specifically because it adds weight unlike nothing else. For
conflict to have any meaning, it needs consequences and
resolution. Death is one such resolution.
       - What would your character's nickname be?
       "Era"
       - Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
       yourself?
Well, I am a 26 year old dude playing from Finland, involved in
work and study both. I may not play a huge lot and preferably
not very late, but I should have time during weekends at the
       very least.
I am also still going through content on the character, and may
sometimes be to exhausted to RP, but rest assured; that is still
a very important thing to me. I wouldn't be playing in two
tabletop RP groups in RL and run a third myself if not.

Hello and thank you for applying, oh fellow Finn!
I would like to ask some questions, although you've made a
       really good application!
First, how do you handle healing? I understand that Sarah
utilizes more practical knowledge and less magic. We tend to
keep a very low key style of healing where magic use is either
expensive or, when conducted by the characters, accomplishes
miracles that are less wondrous than in game. For example, a
situation where use of Light saved a leg from amputation after a
gunshot wound, but did not stiffle the need for extensive
surgery and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, if it's practical
knowledge, then the character is ideally not a vascular surgeon
nor someone who starts digging out bullets from a wound in the
       middle of an inn.
Second, how do you handle magic? Similar to above, it should not
be overtly powerful, such as portals or raining down fire. The
example mentioned in the application mentions curing illness, so
is the spellcraft related to casualty care?
Third, the application mentions that the character is shy with
stealing. Did you plan on trying to make an income by engaging
the community primarily through medical services, or will the
character be attempting to make an income by stealing?

Nothing bad with some questions. It is good that you ask.
My intention is to handle healing 'primarily' by mundane
methods. Say, the same bullet wound in the leg example: One
would probably apply torque to halt the blood flow, clean the
wound, remove the bullet, disinfect with alcohol, sew together
the torn flesh and bandage the wound. Things like that tend to
get infected and potentially fester, potentially require
additional steps and changing of the bandages at times.
Definitely leading for a lengthier recovery period.
For what I intended, 'Magic' is the equivalent for 'medicine'.
After such a surgery, it can be used to reduce swelling and
promote healing, but magic on itself does not solve anything.
I aim to portray the process of casting magic is like cooking:
You need the ingredients, the recipe and the appropriate tools
to do it. Things like that are rarely fast. Try to start pulling
out your salamander tails, your silver bowl, your grounded
silverleaf and your purified water in the heat of the moment.
Sure, dump that jar of grounded bloodworm dust for immediate
clotting to stop the hemorrhaging, but that is used just to buy
       some time.
If you would want for some more 'miraculous' and 'fast' healing.
It 'might' be possible, but not without a heavy price...
On the topic of magic (though I already touched that in earlier
sections)... no, no portals or raining down fire. Snap your
fingers to start a spark in a hay bale and have it slowly catch
fire? Sure! Toss a fireball at a barn and watch it instantly
explode (Holywood Action Movie levels)? Yeah no.
I am aware that you strive for a low-power setting and do plan
to 'tune down' accordingly. I like playing 'support' characters
and allow other people to take the spotlight. I will probably
not use magic much at all in the beginning and slowly expand my
"spellbook" with things that fit the setting and are not overtly
       powerful.
For reference, Sarah is an arcane caster. Like a wizard, but
without official training. I aim to mix "weird" things into her
toolkit, ones that lean towards witchcraft. I am using a Priest
OOC and will add in what I can by means of toys, pets and
       emotes.
Lastly, on the subject on stealing. It depends on what the guild
permits, really. I do aim to be playing the role of a mender and
a support spellcaster who can aid the organisation by means
outside stealing, but I aim to get involved in crime aswell. No
saying that if you do one you can't do both.
The character being shy towards stealing means that they would
probably want to co-operate with someone to be more comfortable
with it. Be it to work in pairs, or part of a team. Again, the
Horde is a relatively "unfamiliar" environment for them. I have
also never actually roleplayed a thief before, so "learning the
ropes" into that style of RP is easier when you can work with
       others.

Thank you for taking the time to write the reply! Like your
application, it's very insightful and in-depth.
We actually do not usually roleplay removing bullets from
gunshot wounds. There is a whole guide in our forums'
members-only section explaining why. I wrote it, so obviously I
mention it, because I, too, roleplay a healer and get passionate
over these topics. We haven't had anyone roleplay a medic aside
from myself since forever. So, no pressure!
But that's absolutely sidetracking and a minor factor. Hence:
There's nothing else we feel like we need to ask at this point,
and thus the application has been approved!
Catch an in-character officer in-game (Thalindor, Laerynna,
Zria) to discuss how we might bump into your character IC.

Thank you. I try to do the things I do well.
Since you mentioned that guide, i went and searched for it. I
don't know if it's intentional, but as soon as someone registers
an account, they can see all the 5x sections under The Hideout.
Anyway, that is a nice and extensive research on the matter. I
can roll along with that and focus on removing arrows, spines
and other such things instead of bullets. Never claimed myself
to be a complete expert in medical matters. Oh, and don't worry,
i am not taking pressure about it. If anything, sounds like
there is a 'demand' for characters that can do that kind of
things. Maybe. Depends. No idea how injury-prone the thieves
are. Suppose i will find out.
       Will find you folks ingame.

Hello. I might be withdrawing my application as for now.
I've had a long (and busy) workweek to think about, and I do not
think I am ready to step back into the RP scene just quite yet.
My heart just isn't in it like it used to be. I will be needing
more time to think on the RP aversion of mine, and when/if I
feel comfortable to step into it again. I might also see into
pursuing some more World PvP heavy avenues of RP, but unsure
       yet. The future is unwritten.
Thank you for the opportunity however and I do wish you all the
best for the future. I may be in the touch again in the future,
       but only tomorrow will tell.
