Application - Heswald Seagrave
By: Prawn Date: December 29, 2019, 3:41 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
- How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves? Through a friend
that associates with some of the Sixty Thieves members.
- What is your character's name and race? Heswald Seagrave (/who
Heswald) Race: Undead
- Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
Heswald is rootless, and at the end of the day he wants to find
a community he fits into.
- Tell us about your character's background and how they
became/are becoming a criminal
Heswald came to consciousness some time ago, underwater, tangled
in a big fishing net. Already forsaken, and with little to no
recollection of his past, neither from his life among the
living, nor the events surrounding his ressurection. Without the
ability to free himself, Hes could do nothing but enjoy his own
company and on rare occasions admire the sunlight hitting the
surface several meters above him, when the waters weren't too
murky. Any fish that would fancy his flesh were either too big
to pass through the net, or small enough to be slain by hand. An
occasional crayfish or other seadwelling critters would wander
through the chaotic prison, giving him some much needed company
and a break from the silent conversations with himself. Years in
a watery grave, with no hope of death, nor rescue, would drive
anyone to the brink of insanity.
One blessed day the thunder of a ships keel passing up above
awoke the imprisoned forsaken. The ship had torn it's anchor
from the mud and was dragging it across the bottom, right
through Heswalds net.
As they regained controll of their vessel they found Heswalds
bloated body in his net, tangled around their anchor. It was a
much needed stroke of luck that this was a horde crew, as anyone
else would surely have thrown him back into the water.
Back on land after who knows how long, Heswald adopted the
surname 'Seagrave', as this is the first place he really
remembers. For a while after his return to shore he was a
bloated whelk, his body so full of water that he lumbered around
like a humanoid slug, but luckily the water slowly dispersed. He
is now much more similair to his forsaken kinsmen in appearance,
apart from the occasional barnacle, starfish and cluster of
shells that made themselves permanent residents on his body.
______________
Now Heswald lives his life as a fishmonger and smuggler, 'for
some reason' the fishmonger business isn't booming, and his
primary source of income is smuggling goods far and wide through
Azeroth for various contacts that need items and goods to 'fly
under the radar'. (An area it would be possible to expand on
this would be peddling various goods he comes across, be they
graverobbers-loot or illicit substances. But only the future
will tell, it's nice to have things to grow into).
- What kind of skills does your character have?
-He's a skilled smuggler, traversing the sea and rivers with his
raft.
-Fairly talented trapper, having translated some of his
fishmans-skills into on-shore traps for both beasts and men,
with nets, lines and hooks.
-Combat wise he's a bit of a trickster, not following much of a
honor-code. Actively using knives, hooks, lines and nets to try
and push the outcome into his favour, and if he fails he's no
stranger to running away.
- How powerful is your character? In this world, average. He
can't win a long-sword duel with an orc, but he might shank him
in the thigh..
- How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
consequences? Beatdowns, prison/captivity, various injuries,
it's all in the name of the game. As far as death goes it's
something I'll ultimately accept as a last outcome, should the
situation go there. But I'll try to exhaust every other option
before it comes to that point, as I mentioned earlier Heswald
isn't a stranger to running away, and I hold no steel-cast pride
in this character to where he'll have to win every encounter or
physical confrontation.
- Do you accept character death? See above.
- What would your character's nickname be? Prawn (This is
subject to change if anyone has any better suggestions or if
it's taken etc.)
- Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
yourself? "Years in a watery grave, with no hope of death, nor
rescue, would drive anyone to the brink of insanity." As I've
noticed the mention of 'mental illness' often gets questioned
and I figured I'd clarify right away; His rather sad story has
naturally left its mark, but it's more accurate to describe him
as 'a bit touched', if you know what I mean. His
social-intelligence isn't up to par with high-society elves, but
he's by no means 'crazy' and unpredictable. And he might have a
close relationship to crustaceans and other oceanic critters,
but nothing more than a 'normal' person would have to their cat.
Beyond that I have nothing else to add so far beyond that this
is my first try at the Horde RP-scene, I've been Roleplaying on
Alliance ever since vanilla (high treason, I know), but I'm
looking forwards to delving deeper into something refreshing.

Hello and thank you for applying! Also, happy new year and
welcome to the Horde!
I'd like to ask you two questions, concerning your application,
which is otherwise very informative and well written!
1) Is the smuggling a part of the character's past, to let
roleplay shape them and their profession in the Thieves more? Or
is it something they'd look to be doing actively ingame, through
roleplay?
2) You describe well how the character's personality is, but I
would still ask for some clarifications. What kind of tone do
you set? Is he a curiousity, comedy or heart-wrenchingly lonely,
for example. There is a lot of ways to pull off this kind
background, so do you intend it to be lighthearted or more of a
deep or dark portrayal of how that kind of survivorship can
change a person?

Thank you and happy new year^^
1: Short answer to this is probably 'both'. It's a minor part of
his background thus far, a sidegig that lands him some extra
coin as he travels from location to location. If a highwayman
robs a caravan, he might sell the crates of elven wine he stole
to the barkeep in Ratchet, and using Heswald as a middleman to
simply ferry the goods over. It is however something I'd like to
expand on and implement into the RP with the guild, the Sixty
would surely create an upswing in Heswalds smuggling business
with more contacts and more stolen goods. Now smuggling might
not actually be the most interactive proffession for RP in a
practical sense, so through the guild he might expand to fencing
stolen goods and possibly selling them aswell should the
oppertunity present itself.
2: If I've done my job right this character will have many
levels to him. He's a character you might feel sorry for,
considering his unfortunate background, but he is not intended
to be overly depressive. Nor is he a comic-relief. I think on a
shallow interaction with someone he might seem easy to talk to,
able to keep a two-way conversation going, humble but not timid.
I hope to be able to make him funny at times, be it through his
humour or situations he'd feel awkward in, but not in a clownish
way.
These are my intentions atleast, wether or not I succeed you'll
have to be the judges of. I have taken him into practice a
couple of times, and as any character he needs to be worn in a
bit to nail down every detail of his personality, but I think
I'm on the right path, I've gotten some good feedback.
I have no idea if that answers your questions, but here's to
hoping ;)

Hey there, and thank you for applying and answering to the
questions presented above!
We have no further questions to ask at this point, and thus the
application is...
Approved!
The initiation process can be continued in-game via an IC
meeting. It's worth noting, however, that the Thieves have
rather recently left to Quel'thalas, and will likely remain
there for at least a couple more weeks. But it is possible to
find them there, should your character wound up in the area for
one reason or another!
