Yr'zel's Application
DIR By: Yrzel
Date: July 20, 2019, 8:18 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Took out all the lore errors and bit too overpowered history so
the app has changed a bit to how I play him now
How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves?
Many moons ago, I stumbled upon this guild. Much fun was had,
but our character's paths began to divide itself icly. Perhaps
the time has come to start anew.
What is your character's name and race?
Yr'zel IC, Yrzel OOC, Zandalari
Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
The Zandalari is looking for protection and people that he can
use for surviving in Kalimdor.
What is your character's background like and how did they
become/are becoming a criminal?
Yr'zel was always a troublesome witch doctor, feeling attracted
to danger and mischief. Seeing him as a no-good, the people
around him were surprised as a certain Loa had chosen him as a
devotee. The Zandalari surprised himself by his unyielding
loyalty for the Loa as they granted him power. Despite the Loa's
warnings in his dreams, he kept on abusing alchemy and curses to
trick people. As a child he was just a pest, but the older he
became, his actions carried heavier consequences. It eventually
was enough to get him exiled to Vol'dun and his Loa abandoning
him. The ruthless Zandalari however found his way out after much
difficulty with a fellow Zandalari and an unexpected new ally in
a military defecting Forsaken. The small team used the
skirmishes between the Alliance and Horde to their advantage.
Stubborn to return to Dazar'Alor and continue on with his life,
the fellow Zandalari escapee nearly knocked him out for it. In
that moment, Yr'zel was forced to accept the truth that there
was no future left in the Empire for them, or he would be stuck
forever in Vol'dun. Uneagerly he decided to swallow his pride
and with help of the Forsaken, they finally smuggled themselves
off to Kalimdor instead at the nearest port.
Tell us a bit about what kind of background your character comes
from, and how they became/are about to become involved in crime?
What are their motives? Wealth, influence, company, perhaps
something else?
Yr'zel yearns for power and wealth. Despite his past, he carries
much pride within him and seeks to stand above others,
especially those who aren't Zandalari. It was apparent from an
early age that the way of the law was not for him.
What kind of skills does your character have?
As a Witch doctor, Yr'zel knows his way especially around
alchemy and imbuing magical properties into items, by communing
with spirits. To a slight extent he can curse, weakening the
mind by harmful and painful shadow magic. With a large margin
for failure he can hex and bind a spirit to an object.
Tell us about your character's skillset; what kind of criminal
activities do they excel in, if any? Do they have any other
noteworthy skills?
He has no experience in thieving, save for maybe pestering a
fishmonger by kicking their bucket of fish in the ocean, which
probably counts more as vandalism. He is mostly used to selling
dubious potions and voodoo imbued items either as a scam or a
prank. For example, he could infuse the mojo of crocodiles into
a flute. If you whistle this, it will attract crocodiles if
they're nearby. He never needed to be street smart because he
was a lazy bum born in a family fairly high up the caste ladder.
So I'll let roleplay develop this part. Yr'zel would also know
his way around hallucogenic and toxic brews.
How powerful is your character?
If Yr'zel wasn't abandoned by his Loa, he would've been a lot
more powerful. He had proper witch doctor training, but never
took it too serious. As such, most of the time he was looking
for ways to pester and trick people with his newfound skills,
annoying the others to no end. Because of his undisciplined
mindset during the training, he knows the basics. Spirits can
grant him their powers and visions if they wish to cooperate,
but by no means are his powers too great to not fit in a group
of rabble, thieves and misfits. Most of all, Yr'zel provides
useful potions and voodoo imbued items if he decides not to
prank. While useful, they are a lot less effective than a
professional witch doctor would brew.
Because of his knowledge in alchemy and imbuing objects, his
cursing will not last very long and it will strain him both
mentally and physically a lot. Success for either hexing or
spiritbinding will require me to roll 80 and above and will be
very taxing on him as well. A witch doctor requires to be in a
trance first to wield voodoo, so that'll slow him down too.
And the last thing. Alchemy requires a wide array of reagents,
some are very hard to get thus very costly. Meaning that both
the quality and quanity of what he brews and imbues is very
dependant on his financial situation.
How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
consequences?
I like the rule 'killed by killable'. I will also agree to
consequences if the situation is fair both in ic and ooc. Same
goes for major injuries. I'm a bit strict in this because I used
to be way too loose with some overly powerful characters that
nearly killed my own because they pulled out a machinegun out of
air. But of course, if my character badly screws up in e.g. a
heist and they lose a finger or worse, I see that as fair. Death
is something I'd like to consider accepting or not accepting
depending on the situation. If I plan to do something bad to a
character, I'll consent with them first unless I know they are
open for it.
What would your character's nickname be?
Gold
Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
yourself?
I'll keep my activity a bit limited due to other activities
oocly, but active enough.
I'm also very open for feedback! This application might feel a
bit unfinished. I actually prepared a Zandalari that had a very
different concept but decided to overhaul everything. I'm
planning to flesh out the character more during roleplay.

Hi it's me again. Re-reading the witch doctor lore I realised I
made a huge lore mistake with mixing them up with
shamanism/elementalist. Amending that, their skills now are:
hexing, cursing, alchemy and potion brewing. I'll leave healing
and curing diseases out to avoid a too OP character, plus they
wouldn't be interested in it anyway.

Hello and thank you for your application! Also... Welcome back!
Not a lot of questions to be asked here, but here's one:
You state that the character isn't powerful, but they appear to
have a wide skillset and comprehensive training. While we aren't
concerned that you would play someone too powerful to fit the
guild, as we know you previously, how do you feel about the
character's power? Do you feel settled on it, and will the wide
array of skills make it difficult for you to balance them?

That's a good point you raise. Hexing is quite a powerful skill,
but I shall compensate it with a large margin for failure. Both
alchemy and cursing won't be as skilled a normal well trained
witch doctor would be due to his personality and abandoning Loa.
Esentially he had potential, but proved to be a kodopoopty
learner. I'm settled on the skillset but I'm willing to lower it
a notch to make it fit with the thieves.
