Application: Chenguang Swifthide
DIR By: Chenguang
Date: May 1, 2019, 6:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
- How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves?
I have seen the guild around various places, been scammed by
them on some of my more gullible characters, more recently I
have become interested in joining up with one of my ethically
flexible characters to see how things work.
- What is your character's name and race?
Chenguang in game.
Chenguang Swifthide or just Cheng to most, a Pandaren.
- Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
Earning money is proving to be difficult so Cheng is looking to
branch out to new opportunities, the organization of Sixty
thieves is of great interest as they seem to know what they are
doing.
- Tell us about your character's background and how they
became/are becoming a criminal
A Pandaren who had fallen on hard times, shunned by others for
her difficult behaviour, she decided to take what she was owed
from the people around her after great personal tragedy.
She has clearly flourished and found a niche in society with her
self serving ways, although relying on opportunities that fall
into her lap are proving to be sparse lately.
- What kind of skills does your character have?
Hailing from Kun-Lai, Cheng has done a fair bit of climbing in
the mountains as well as more built up areas, usually into a
window to relieve people of their goods or get into other places
she shouldn't be.
She is adept at picking most basic locks, pick pocketing and the
usual roguish talents.
Cheng also has a decent aim with a pistol, something she would
prefer to use rather than get close for a fight.
Her greatest ability is what some would call paranoia but she
would say it's a keen sense, able to spot what she might believe
to be trouble.
- How powerful is your character?
An unhealthy runt of a Pandaren, short, and although not
physically weak she would not want a straight up fight, relying
on her quick legs and her quick mind to deal with most
situations.
In the grand scheme of things, not very powerful on her own.
- How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
consequences?
Conflict can be either something agreed between characters or
that happens via roleplay, I believe it is important to be
respectful to the other character and maybe even discuss the
matters OOC'ly in order to keep roleplay enjoyable.
As for personal experiences, Cheng doesn't push for conflicts as
she's somewhat of a coward really. She has been in trouble
before, and a few cells, she has paid quite heavily for her
mistakes and still bears some scars from these moments.
As long as it makes sense I would be willing to accept most
consequences, including death, they bring meaning to the actions
we take as our characters and make it all the more exciting to
roleplay in dangerous situations.
- What would your character's nickname be?
Scratches.
- Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
yourself?
Cheng is twitchy and nervous, she isn't one for giving her
background out freely and generally is slow to trust, but very
ambitious and always looking to fill her gold pouch.
As for me, I have put a lot of effort into Cheng and enjoy
playing the little crime panda, I like to try and play smart
with her and Sixty Thieves work some interesting angles that I
think she would fit with.
- Story or IC letter (optional)
Cheng spent a few days loitering around Ratchet, this was
supposedly the area that the group operated in at times, all she
saw was ships moving in and out of port with few people to talk
with, or people that she wanted to talk to at least.
She was patient though, and they sold cactus cider so it wasn't
too much of a concern, she'd wait it out whilst her money
lasted, then she would have to move on to find another
opportunity.

Hello, and thank you for your interest!
Your application is well written and your stance on conflict
roleplay looks like a match.
I've a question, though!
You mentioned the character can pickpocket, but are largely a
burglar. It's actually refreshing, but it's also very difficult
to gain income through that, because not a lot of people
roleplay having homes. It always becomes some kind of event,
contacting people if you can break into their house to steal
their things, and it doesn't really happen spontaneously.
How had you considered to commit the break-ins, in general? Do
you contact the player in question and enquire if you can set it
up? And did you mean to have alternative incomes (such as the
aforementioned pickpocketing), seeing that burglary takes
planning and time?

There have been a few situations where a mark put trust in
Cheng, private stashes shown to her, hiding spots and other
things.
You are right though, it mainly is a event thing but on those
few off chances I talk to the person and mention the possibility
of things going missing, they have been okay with it. Hah!
I like to listen to the crowd and look for opportunities to
fulfil that part of roleplay, but for the most part a lot of her
income, when she is in dire straits, usually comes from
loitering in Orgrimmar and insisting on free drinks from
gullible elves, being a leech of a person seems to come
naturally, and although she might hate it, the "exotic" draw
some people have to Pandaren allows them to be swindled quite
easily.

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to write this application
and to respond to the above question!
It is quite satisfying to hear that players have allowed cat
burglaries to be done, despite the arguable inconvenience of
having no real house-models to work around like a playground.
And I hope the opportunities for cat burglaries, outside of
events, continues!
Contact an officer in-game to prepare an interview!
