Application: Altarie
By: Altarie Date: February 12, 2019, 5:12 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hello there. Here goes my application, I hope you enjoy it!
How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves?
I learned of it from the forums, from a few friends here and
there and I also occasionally see you RP in Booty Bay. I always
liked the concept of the guild.
What is your character's name and race?
My character's name is Altarie. She doesn't usually say her last
name since she's not that close to her family, fact which will
become apparent from the character's background. She is a
Nightborne.
Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
I mostly RP "lawful good" characters, such as night elves (
well, most of them!, I also have a Demon Hunter ), mages and
such. Since these two concepts seem to die off on Alliance ( or
I'm blind to new guilds, might be that too ), I wanna start anew
with a whole new concept on even a whole new faction. ( I have
RPed a bit on Horde before ).
My character has spent a lot of time away from the nobility and
more hidden, with unknown people of unknown origins. Deep down
though, she just wants a family who will accept her.
What is your character's background like and how did they
become/are becoming a criminal?
Altarie was born in a noble family in Suramar. She has an older
brother who's a respected scholar and astromancer and she was
always envious of the praise her people put on him since she was
smarter than him and both of them knew that. Altarie saw what
the vanity of the Nightborne did to her people even before the
Legion attacked, and always considered Thalyssra's inaction as a
weakness, therefore she became "anti-government", like Arluin.
She was banished ( or left ) from her family for that. She was
kind of a Robin Hood of the people, if u wanna make that
comparison, smuggling, stealing, infiltrating but, at the same
time, having to find her own source of the Nightwell. Eventually
the Legion invaded and the Resistance won, but, by that time,
she lost faith and remained in the shadows.
What kind of skills does your character have?
As a Nightborne, she is a natural magic user, but you'd be
surprised how little she uses of it! Most of her skills
developed in her "exile", such as lying, stealing, smuggling and
such. She can kill, but she doesn't like to do so, as it draws
too much sight. She tries to put subtlety above all. She's also
really good at fighting like a monk! Who knows where she learned
that...
How powerful is your character?
As a Nightborne, I'd say she's pretty powerful. Her family has
very much potential, but she hasn't spent enough time really
solidifying that potential, so she can be seen as average or
even weaker than most other Nightbornes. She doesn't like to
show off so people can't predict what she'll do.
How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
consequences?
I think conflict is necessary in some situation, but then there
are people who force it. For Altarie specifically, she won't
seek conflict ( at least directly ). I'm all for consequences,
as I want to feel my character evolving and maturing, not
staying in one spot for the entire game.
What would your character's nickname be?
Raven, maybe? ( Yeah, I watched Teen Titans when I was a kid,
sue me. :D )
Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
yourself?
Not really, that would be all. Thank you for the read and I hope
you'll enjoy it!

Hi there, thank you for your application! It was an interesting
read, but I have a few questions to ask.
1) What is her power level like in regards to monk and magic
usage with the arcane? As an example, can she mist weave, or is
she only a fist fighter? What's the most powerful arcane spell
she can conjure? If you could put her into a fighting situation,
what skills would she use to combat it?
2) A lot of our RP comes from conflict. Openly mugging and
thugging players, stealing from them, pickpocketting may be
minor ways of conflict, but they're necessary ones for us. Would
she be willing to conduct this, as you write you do not seek
conflict?

1) She can't use any monk based abilities, she can only fight as
one. As for arcane, she knows next to no offensive spells. Most
of her arcane knowledge comes in the form of utility, such as
blink ( what she'll use mostly ). She can -kinda- do
invisibility, but she mostly blurs, not out right dissapears.
2) She does not personally seek conflict, since she wants to
stay hidden, but will do nonetheless if she has something to
gain from it. As such, I think it's positive to say she can and
will rob anyone you put her to.

Hey there, and thank you for taking the time to write the
application!
I've got a few things that I'd like to say. Firstly, I'm curious
about how she came to learn monk skills, considering the
Nightborne haven't been in contact with monks of any kind until
the events of Legion. Can you expand a little more on that? Is
it something recent?
Secondly, while the two magic abilities you mentioned (blink and
invisibility) aren't forbidden in our guild per se, we'd need to
apply certain limitations. It seems that you already had
something in mind for invisibility to make it less powerful,
which is good, though I'd also consider a fairly strict time
restriction on that. What comes to blinking, it would need to be
adjusted not to work through walls, people, or other obstacles,
nor for great distances. I've often seen these two particular
spells being used in fairly poor taste to escape unescapable
situations and what not, which are sure to cause friction and
drama OOC. Now, I won't say that it'd necessarily be the case
with you, but this is a topic we're quite cautious about,
considering that most of our roleplay revolves around conflict
with other players.
And speaking of conflict; if you are a member of the Sixty
Thieves, you will not be able to avoid conflict roleplay. Every
time we mug, pickpocket, scam, or eavesdrop on someone, we're
either in direct conflict with other characters, or we open the
possibility for future conflict. Now, whether Altarie as a
character considers something a conflict only when it escalates
into violence or something similar (which I presume was meant by
your response to Doll), is another matter entirely.
Hope to hear back from you soon!

She learned monk skills recently. She can't use any chi-related
abilities and even calling them skills is a bit of an overload.
She can do some basic moves, nothing too advanced.
Well, she has quite a few limitations. For one, well, she
doesn't really wanna use it since she wants to distance herself
from her family and especially her brother which is a respected
scholar. Though, practically, invisibility is what I said it was
and blink is a limited use spell as well. I also tried to point
out heavily that she is weaker compared to most Nightborne in
terms of magical experience. Sometimes they may not work, and
when they do, they will take away much mana from her. She has
the potential, but nowhere near the experience you'd expect from
a Nightborne. I will try to limit the usage even more and she
won't escape from death situations by blinking away. If she has
to die, she will. I'm not evading consequences.
Also, I admit it is my fault for the "seeking trouble" confusion
and I will try to expand on that. Altarie isn't fearful of
getting into fights, robbing, smuggling etc. It's what she's
been doing since she was exiled. She will not actively seek
trouble without something to gain, however, as that is attention
gained on nothing. She can and will pick fights for robbing,
pickpocketing and so on. She knows the risks and she accepts
them. A good example is... She will rob or pickpocket someone
she's told to, no doubt. But, if she's not ordered and if she
has nothing to gain from it, she will try to stay away from the
spotlight. She won't pick a fight with anyone, unless, again,
they have something she wants / needs or she's given these
orders from higher up.
I apologise for all these confussions. I admit the presentation
wasn't the cleanest and I could have done a lot more for
clarity's sake. If you have any other questions, please ask and
I'll try to rectify anything or clear stuff up. Toodles!

Hey there, thanks for the responses!
I am sure further questions will be sent in Altarie's way once
we meet her in-character.
For the next week (or 2) Sixty Thieves are in Zuldazar, and will
be leaving the city tomorrow, so unless your character has a
reason to be in Dazar'alor, we will see you when we return to
Orgrimmar!
Whisper an officer in-game for questions!

Oh, lovely then. I'll wait until you return to Orgrimmar. That
way I have time to flesh out Altarie and add a bit more clarity
to her character. I can't wait to meet you!

Hey there!
We have left Zuldazar and have taken a (hopefully) short trip to
Booty Bay before returning to Orgrimmar. Unless awful things
happen in the next few days, you should expect to see us in
Orgrimmar - or rather the region around the city - come next
week (unless your character happens to have a reason to be in
Booty Bay)
However, I will emphasise that there is always the chance that
our plans get adjusted and we have to remain in Booty Bay for a
little bit longer, due to one reason or another. But from here
on, we can plan an interview with your character at your
earliest convenience!
Message an officer in-game for further details: Thalindor,
Laerynna, Kaziik, Chíel
