Application: Rossain Nightingale

The wind is cruel in the late spring evening. All of the lights
from the wooden buildings are on, laughter sounding through the
harsh rain, coming from inns and houses. Everyone seems to be
inside, everyone being cozily within four walls, hiding until
the weather would turn. Everyone but the malnourished figure
tightly wrapped in a purple cloak. Long ears emerge from the
hood showing that it is in fact an elf that is caught in the
rainy misfortune. Perhaps a night elf or a nightborne? Who knows
these days? It has found shelter on the edge of a building,
hiding underneath it's roof while curling up and trying to keep
away from the harsh winds. Curiously though, in it's lap is a
medium sized satchel that seems to be moving. What could be
inside?
The door of the inn opens, warmth and loud laughter exploding
through the air with cheerfulness. A few brave souls wish to
leave to return to their homes, stumbling on the withered elf
who mutters a soft "Excuse me" while shuffling further away from
the door. As the bony figure moves, so would the sack in it's
lap. To everyone's surprise, the head of a little purple kitten
would emerge, letting out a pained "Meow", trying to keep it's
tinny nuzzle away from the rain.
Why does she want to join the lowlife theft gang, the Sixty
Thieves? (And OOC, why do you want to join?)
Rossain would like to join such a gang to have more of her type
around her, to ease the struggle, to find work easier and of
course, new people to interact with and new places are always
fascinating to someone that has been trapped in the city she
hates with the people she despises for thousands of years!
And as for me, I would love to join your guild since it is one
of the longest lasting ones on Argent Dawn with a great concept!
Your guild structure and theme seems really fun and I would love
to try it out!
What would their nickname be?
I was thinking that her last name could perhaps be her nickname
as well. She never really introduces herself with her last name
(Nightingale). If not, she could maybe get a nickname that has
something to do with cat (since she used to kidnap/smuggle/steal
them for a living) or with how boney she is.
How powerful is your character?
Not at all really. She doesn't have any amazing magic abilities
or any noteworthy knife skills. She knows how to defend herself,
but on a scale from one to ten on the OP scale, she probably is
a 2-3. Can defend herself if really needed, but wouldn't stand a
chance against someone that is trained and has actual weapons.
What's her background like?
Well, just like any Nightborne, she has been trapped in Suramar
for thousand of years. When half of the city sunk in the war of
the ancients, she was very young and unfortunately her parents
have died in the catastrophe, being on the wrong side of the
capital. Being left with no family or friends, the girl had to
tend to herself and try to get on to the best of abilities. With
no money, she resulted to becoming a thief.
Once the Nightwell stopped feeding her kin with the magic they
needed, she remained within the city but could not afford the
arcwine she needed, barely scraping by. Eventually though, she
managed to get her hands on one of the magical apples, feeding
her hunger once and for all. Being glad to finally be able to
leave the place she hated the most, Rossain decided to venture
out in the world, sneaking on the first boat she found and
landing in Booty Bay.
How consistent is your character with following the lore?
I would say the character is pretty lore accurate. I always try
to keep as close as possible to the cannon lore and fill in the
gaps left by Blizzard with the most logical idea that I can
think of.
Are you a killer, lass?
Nay! Rossain has never killed someone and most likely never
will. She knows that most people have a family of their own that
would miss them greatly and does not want to put anyone through
what she has been through.
Do you accept "RP-consequences"?
Of course! As long as they make sense. For example I believe
that as much as pickpocketing is not accepted in any city, the
average citizen would not be allowed to inflict any hard
punishments on my characters, like cutting her hand off! I
accept consequences as long as they are within the realms of
logic.
Any specialities she has? Perhaps a skill in something, a
behavioural or personality trait that can be considered unique.
She is great with animals and can remain calm even in the most
stressful of situations. Not exactly unique, but it's something!
Rossain is a fairly new character so I can't say I have explored
her as much. Maybe I'll discover some hidden talent along the
way!
What's your activity like?
I am fairly active I would say. I am usually online in the
evenings and afternoons. Sometimes nights as well in the
weekend. I try to attend every event that I can as well. But
usually, I'm online every day.

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to write this! Loved the
little atmosphere at the start :D
I love how your character sounds. Suits a nightborne yet a
criminal and I'm just interested to interact with her rather
than throw any questions your way about it OOCly.

I have actually spent longer on that section of the application
than on everything else all together.

Hi again and thanks for writing the app! I also loved the
writing in the beginning and second what Fade said. She'd make a
good fit due to circumstances she grew up in and her being a
good ol' plain thief. Absolutely no problem to discover through
RP what more she can offer after living quite an age.
Nightingale sounds good to me too, as she didn't use it before.

Hello there, and thanks for applying!
Rossain seems to have a solid and simple character concept. I am
slightly curious about how/why she ended up maintaining a
strictly criminal lifestyle for thousands of years, and how that
shaped her as a character - but that's something that can be
found out in-game. And admittedly, coming up with hundreds (and
especially thousands) of years' worth of background is very,
very difficult. 'Tis the curse of playing races that live long.
Looking forwards to catching you in-game!

Lovely character! It's nice to see a "simple" nightborne, if you
get what I mean. I'm sick and tired of all the noble arcanists;
they are EVERYWHERE! Crawling under rocks, hiding behind trees
and even lurking in that wee pond in the Valley of Honour!
There's something I'd like to point out though (if I may!). You
see, Nightborne are very long-lived, and I wonder how with such
a long life she didn't have the chance to cultivate any specific
skill (playing an instrument, for example). I like simplicity,
but even a relatively young (a few centuries old, let's say) elf
ought to have developed a particular set of abilities. Don't
take it as criticism though, I'm just curious!
Besides, as a filthy unmarked I cannot approve/reject apps, but
I like yours a alot! So good luck. :)

I have actually thought about this as well. In order to improve
and learn, you need to want to do so. If one doesn't want to
flower and go to the next stage of their lives, they most likely
never will! Especially since the nightborne are such a proud
race, I imagine it would be pretty hard to advance in the
society with no money/school/name.
But I believe she could have picked up some soft skills along
the way. Like sneakiness and lockpicking or avoiding arcane
sentries. Also being great with animals, especially cats, could
be an interesting thing as well.
As for how all of this influenced her, I wouldn't want to spoil
it just yet. She definitely had a very stoic view of the world,
having accepted this lifestyle and not really believing that
anything could and should ever change. They are also other
behavioural traits I got planned but as said, I want to leave
some of it to be discovered through the roleplay!
