Sanaedaris - Crusty old Mage application
By: Sanaedaris Date: July 6, 2016, 8:23 am
---------------------------------------------------------
- Why does s/he want to join the lowlife theft gang, the Sixty
Thieves? (And OOCly, why do you want to join?)
Much to Sanaedaris' disappointment his pilfering activities were
discovered by the Reliquary and he was shunted out, his
reputation forever tarnished. He looks upon Thieves as a tool
that might be used in the acquisition of both fortune and/or,
most importantly, relics and artifacts. He understands that such
assistance requires 'payback' and this experienced Mage is
willing to demonstrate why he would be an asset to Thieves.
Considering he is often critical and prone to pomposity, he
approves of 'those that wield pointy sticks' and rarely directs
his venom in that direction, preferring to waft a dismissive
hand towards other 'inferior' mages and casters.
OOCly, the guild seems laid back and fun. I enjoy 'logical' RP
and you appear to offer that.
- What would their nickname be? (Yes, all thieves have
nicknames. Choose a nickname that is one-worded. Some names are
already taken ofc.)
As an ex-Senior Reliquary Examiner, Sanaedaris would prefer
'Sir' but I guess "Relic" would be acceptable, referring to his
age and his perchant for artifacts.
- How powerful is your character?
He is an experienced Frost Mage and served extensively in the
Frozen Wastes. However, speed is not Sanaedaris' forte so he
prefers to make an exit via his portals rather than stand his
ground. If push comes to shove, he is quite formidable however.
- What's her/his background like?
To listen to Sanaedaris his family are the epitome of good
breeding whereas the truth is a little different. He did however
receive an excellent education and access to the Spire
libraries. His Uncle, who he dislikes, was a wealthy Magister
who instructed him in the Arcane. Sanaedaris' eyes narrow and
his lips thin when he speaks of him. His life in the Reliquary
was comfortable and he was well thought of. Unfortunately greed
lead to his downfall and many were pleased to see him fall from
grace, having been on the receiving end of his condescending
behaviour and pompous put downs.
- How closely do you follow the lore?
My lore knowledge is 'ok' although I do not take sufficient
interest to read about 'everything'. I research the areas of
lore that I am interested in. I will admit to having little
tolerance for blatent lorebreakers although recognise that there
are gaps in Blizzard's lore.
- “You a killer, son/las?”
"I have no idea what a las is and I certainly was not squired
from your loins. Be quiet fool".
- Do you accept ‘RP-consequences’?
Absolutely.
Sanaedaris is well aware of the stereotypical 'Sin'dorei
Magister' - ie a "pompous, tedious and sneering" individual. He
recognises that if he is to secure allies, then that sort of
behaviour is simply not appropriate. There is little hope that
he will be able to adopt a kind and benevolent persona, but his
time in the Reliquary brought him into contact with various
races and he has managed to learn a little tact.
- Any specialities s/he has? Perhaps a skill in something, a
behavioural or personality trait that can be considered unique.
Sanaedaris has extensive knowledge of icons and artifacts,
having published books on the subject. According to him he is
expert in a number of fields, but then he would assert that.
- What's your activity like?
Reasonable. I am also reliable and make efforts to support guild
events.

Hello there, and thanks for applying!
The application is very well-written, and the character seems
like a solid and interesting one – and his reason to resort to
criminal-activities also makes sense. However, whether he'd fit
in to this guild is something that we had to discuss between the
officers.
He'd certainly be an useful asset, with all the experience and
skillsets he has, but we fear his powers and background puts him
on a too high level in comparison with our general memberbase.
He appears power-hungry and greedy for riches, but an
experienced mage, war-veteran and ex-Senior Reliquary Examiner
probably wouldn't see a handful of silvers as the treasured
victory our ragged pickpockets do. Sure, there are larger heists
that involve bigger prizes now and then, but we typically deal
in silver. We fear this character may stand out a little too
much in a gang of petty thugs and other thieves – so this is
most of all a question of immersion and atmosphere.
Portals is another thing we've been discussing a lot – merely
for the fact that if we have the opportunity to have them at our
disposal, it would make no sense not to put them to use due to
how incredibly useful they are. Each job and heist could end
with opening a portal and escaping with the loot, which in turn
would make the life of a thief significantly easier. Obstacles
and thinking of original ways to overcome them are what spices
up our RP, and thus we've been avoiding characters that are able
to open portals – again, for immersion and atmosphere.
In conclusion, we feel that this probably isn't the best guild
for your character, but he'd certainly be someone the Thieves
could use as a contact – if they come across a relic and can't
figure out its worth, for example. Or to try and find a buyer.
Thank you for the interest and putting the time into writing the
application! :)

Thank you for your response. Your concerns are mine also, that
this Mage would be unlikely to throw his lot in with 'common
criminals' especially as he views his crimes as totally
justifiable. My friend has just said to me "You know what-I
respect their reply a lot. Holy crap someone rejected based on
logical IC reasoning. I will keep an eye out for that lot".
Sanaedaris seeks 'allies' to go treasure hunting, and also to
steal things he hears about. Financially he is not in a position
to employ the Sixty, but I would certainly welcome some RP with
you in the future and I do understand your concerns about his
'fit'.
Thank you for your words and I wish you all the best for the
future - you guys deserve it.

Thank you very much for taking time to make the application and
understanding our reasoning, hopefully we will bump paths during
RP. I do hope you are able to find Sanaedaris a suitable route
to go on that is enjoyable and offers great character
development. All the best to you, too. :)

Hello,
Also from me, a big thank you for applying. I had a good time
reading it since it is really well written. I will also look
forward to running into you ICly!
Thank you for being as understanding as you were and the best of
luck with your character, I have no doubt he'll get his hands on
those relics he seems to love that much!
