Odie's application
By: Odie Date: April 19, 2016, 6:03 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
But now you have to speak up and tell us about your character.
- Why does she want to join the Sixty?
Odie has in more recent times fallen out of sight from the
general Troll population and as a Hexxer on the left hand path,
she has found a new liking for the Loa Baron Kriminel, one of
the Loa of Death and the patron Loa of criminals. In service to
this spirit she seeks to immerse herself in illegality,
therefore seeking out a band of thieves might be a good point to
start. Why seek out the Sixty for this? She has the opportunity,
they are close by where she lived in Orgrimmar and can be
encountered on the street.
- What can s/he do?
Odie is skilled in the ways of voodoo and ritual magic, while
this isn't an ideal path for someone intending to join a band of
thieves, she will be able to play a more supporting role in
providing cover and aid, as well as more magical assistance in
the form of illusions, potions and toxins as well as add some
genuine Troll superstition to the operation. Because everyone
does better with an elf ear around their neck and a gnome toe in
their pocket.
- What would their nickname be?
Something along the lines of Ghede (the nation of Loa she
generally worships), Veve (the voodoo patterns that have been
scarred and tattooed into her skin, particularly her left arm)
or the Baron's girl (since her particular patron Loa is Baron
Kriminel at the time).
- What's her background like?
Its mostly her growing up in Orgrimmar slightly before and
during Garrosh's Kor'kron occupation of Orgrimmar. and being
taught about the voodoo while at it. It's also how she knows how
to avoid patrols and hide from authority if she needs to.
- Any specialities s/he has?
A variety of powders and potions ontop of the magic she has. If
she's sent to do fieldwork she'll likely engage the mark in
conversation and try to hex them into handing over what we want
themselves.
If not out in active fieldwork, she can be counted on as fence
or a launderer, if with a twist of religious zealotry mixed in.
- What's your activity like?
I'm online on a variety of characters throughout the week, so
I'll likely be around often enough. I've already preordered
Legion and will as such keep playing for the expansion.
OOC
Hello. At the time of writing I'm 23 years old and have been
doing RP in WoW since late BC, early WotLK, somewhere around
there. I'm an engineering student with a good amount of spare
time and not much else to do. Im generally mature in my
interactions and enjoy cracking a joke every now and again. A
little forewarning though, my humor gets quite dark at times. I
hope to be able to hang out with you people for a bit.

Hello and thank you for applying :)
An interesting concept to join, but if she wants to immerse
herself in a criminal organisation then a band of thieves is a
good choice. Avoiding authority gives a sense of sneakiness,
even if it is just plain intelligence of their routes and all
that, but nonetheless features of the sort of characters this
guild expects! While she may not be one to actively comit theft,
I think it would be a skill that the gang would urge and try to
teach, somewhat, during her stay - but that is an entirely IC
matter to discuss!
ICly in the guild we have a 'trial' period as the first rank,
then progress from there if the character suits / everything
goes well, so it can also be established there if she is right
for the guild. As for your RP, well, I am rping with you right
now! And I am very much enjoying what I am seeing.
I would like to think she is! And I will approve this - more
responses to come, see you in game!

Hello there - and thanks for the interest!
This is certainly a different kind of character to apply for the
Thieves, as I can't recall us ever having a Witch Doctor in the
guild before during its almost 10 year long existence. That does
not, however, mean that it'd necessarily be a bad thing, by any
means. The application looks well-thought and -written.
I've got just a few questions that come to my mind at this late
hour. The Loa you mentioned is taken from real life, right? A
brief googling gave me the result that Baron Kriminel was a
feared Haitian Loa. Is there any known Loa in game that would be
similar to it - as we're bound to the lore of World of Warcraft,
after all! My knowledge on Loas is somewhat limited, so I can't
really name any myself. In case there isn't one, there's always
the option of making up your own Loa, as basically any dead
troll, other humanoid, or animal can be worshipped as a Loa, so
there can be a countless number of them. If making one up,
perhaps re-name it slightly, so the connection to the RL one
won't be as obvious. :)
If she's sent to do fieldwork she'll likely engage the
mark in conversation and try to hex them into handing over what
we want themselves.
Also curious about this! How does it work in practise? My
knowledge on hexing is rather limited, as well.
Thank you in advance!

And here I thought I would be the smart one pointing about the
Haiti loa.
Having a hexxer/Witch doctor in the guild. Their knowledge of
poison and curses might outmatch me. Hopefully your loa does not
require fresh blood (from us)
I dont really mind that you use a loa that isnt cannon, but I
would suggest changing the name so that it would fit more in,
but please do have references. Having you or your victems trying
to stab would be a good laugh.
I myself tend to experiment how far I can bend the rules in my
RP, which often is fun.
For the moment I can not comment on your RP, but according to
Fade you seems like a fun person to RP with, which is always
good.
I do not have any complains, so I accept.

Hello there and thanks for your quick and kind response. As for
the questions you've been having, I'll try to adress them one by
one.
About the Loa, Troll voodoo is actually an almost direct port of
haitian voodoo if Bwonsamedi (Baron Samedi) was anything to go
by, if slightly bastardized and gamified with other tribes
bringing in gods of their own into a large overcoupling
pantheon, ranging from ancestor worship and more humanoid Loa
found among the Darkspear and the Zandalari, to animal Loa, seen
with the Amani and Drakkari, and to stick with WoW's general
Wind Serpents are evil theme, Hakkar the Soulflayer among the
Gurubashi. Other troll guilds over the years have used Loa such
as Gonk, the raptor whose hide records all stories (Cult of the
Raptor), Ogoun, Dembalah Wedo (Jang Thraze Atal, also direct
haitian ports.) According to the official lore any being that
can transcend death is to be considered a Loa, the importance
and power that can be derived from serving any of these being to
any degree varies wildly, and so does what they ask in return.
Even so, WoW does go along with the concept of the Left Hand
Path (using magic to serve the self), having the warlock
exclusive item Scythe of the Left Hand Path in direct reference.
Having all of this in mind, I do not think porting Baron
Kriminel directly is concernably lore breaking, if not,
Bwonsamedi might be the closest having made an in game
appearance.
On how Hexxing works. Hexxing is a Troll practice where you
either capture spirits through performance, or place curses on
people. This can be done by slipping them toxins, using juju
magic, setting a captured spirit on them or corrupting the
victim's spirit by kicking it out of balance. What I've
effectively got in mind is, again a scheme ported from real
life, but this time the drugs made from the Devil Tree, which
are a powdered hallucinogenic that can bend the will of the one
who takes it into complete submission (and this scary **** is
actually real!), thereby letting them do your bidding.
Using a totem version of this effect was a signiature move of
the Jin'do the Hexxer encounter in Zul Gurub before the
re-release, where he turns the player against their party. I am
however intimately aware that this kind of tactic requires
player permission if executed in any form of roleplay and I am
intimately aware that forcing people to go along with it is not
an option.
See also the Witchdoctor (

/>) and Hexer (

classes.
Other that that I hope to throw around a few transmorphic
tinctures, potions of illusion or invisibility potions for our
fellow thieves.

I am rather unfamiliar with the trollish voodoo and whatnot you
have been speaking about, but you have explained yourself
incredibly well and I don't see any issue with the explanation
you have given, and no complaints about possibilities of
lore-breaking and whatnot. Shall RP with you at a later date to
continue the interaction! :)
What is your character's exact OOC name, btw?
I was a fool and didn't add friend when I could have.

Thank you for the very comprehensive response! As said last
night, I'm a bit lacking in regards of Loa knowledge /
Troll-lore, myself.
Looking forwards to getting in touch with you in-game -
approved!
