Re: BOD Call Tonight - ASPIRE TO BE DISCUSSED

---------------------------------------------------------
Tonight's BOD meeting started slow with BOD members dragging in
after the call-in time. TJ and Dean Ekeren had excused absences.
Seth Wilson came in late but did arrive.
Meeting started with CEO Update:
1. USAT is working on improving customer service. The intent is
to get all calls and emails answered in 24 hours but they are
not there yet.
2. 32 applicants so for for the COO position.
3. Finances - the independent Audit went to the Audit Committee
today. The "going concern" statement was removed from this
audit. The auditor suggested they get rid of the chopper, you
know, the one they don't have a title for and that they remove
the old computers and equipment from their balance sheet.
4. Nationals had 300 fewer participants than Chicago but made
more money because of lower expenses.
5. Future Nationals. No decisions yet but discussions on
splitting Juniors and Seniors or having Nationals split into
East Coast & West Coast Championships and winners meeting in the
middle at an Elite event in Central USA.
6. BOD members want membership to complete questionnaires. Said
questionnaires are to be out by 9/15/14.
7. High Performance Plan was due at the USOC last week. USAT
made a presentation this week at the USOC with Lynda Laurin,
Patrick Wentworth, Bruce Harris and Patrice Remarck if I heard
correctly. They thought it went fantastic. They are evaluating
10 specific athletes and proposing individual plans for those
athletes for example. USOC will review and accept plan in
September 2014.
8. Membership down 1,000 from last year and club membership is
down 200 clubs. No election, no reason to register. A little
discussion on changing from rolling to static. They didn't
understand the benefits and no one brought most of them up.
They do want to set up automatic debit off your credit card to
automatically renew you every year. Then it came out that there
are only 22 members listed on report from Illinois, which is
wrong. So once again, BOD was given an inaccurate report.
9. Annual Congress - had a whopping 100 attendees last year. It
was still planned for this year but they decided to just have a
member phone call instead.
10. BOD members asked about the Aspire camp accounting and the
spreadsheet none of them could understand. A couple appear to
have figure out the cadet parents were screwed on this deal. The
spreadsheet supposedly shows the cadet plane tickets as if they
were paid by USAT, which as we all know they were not. Cadets
will receive nothing back as of the $45,000 raised by the Aspire
camps, all but $723 went to the losses on the Junior Team trip.
I told you all that they would take the money raised by Aspire
and put it to those losses but no one believed they would do
that. Wrong.
BOD members appeared to realize something is rotten in the deal
and they are discussing in Executive Session. It didn't sound
like the Cadet Parent who donated $3000 to the Cadet trip had
his money put into support for cadets but that it probably went
to USAT losses on the trips. Sounds like USAT is taking a large
hit on the trip. One BOD member asked why since the plane
tickets were the biggest expense, why weren't the kids asked to
pay for their own plane tickets. DUHHH the cadets paid, through
the nose for last minute tickets.
11. Some discussion on State Association Guidelines. USAT is
writing some. They are talking some more. USTU had these in the
bylaws, made it really simple. Granted one can't make a one
packet fits all since state corporate laws very but there needs
to be some oversight and some consistency.
12.Steve McNally, the new marketing guy is at a wedding, all
discussion put off on marketing.
13. They are closer to getting the 990 filed. Of course, they
had to get an extension since it was due 5/15/14, three months
ago. BTW, donors look at whether all BOD members have donated.
They also look to see if the 990 was filed in a timely fashion -
like on time.
14. They voted to adjourn to Executive Session.
At least it appears that some BOD members are developing a BS
detector. I do wish the Executive Sessions were open.

5. USAT can barely manage and afford 1 National Championship,
now they are considering an East Coast, West Coast and Elite
event?
7. Who chose the "10 specific athletes", what was the criteria,
and why are we just now hearing about it? Sounds very secretive
and VERY VERY BIASED!
10. I hope the USOC takes note of the Aspire Camp accounting
debacle. Man! I feel for those cadet parents who had to fork
over the money, and the cadets who won a place on the team but
couldn't afford to go. USAT screwed them all!

It was pointed out to me that the "10 spacific athletes" was an
example. Ok, if they used Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and
Snoopy or some other made up athletes fine. If they used real
athletes, it's not fine and my point still stands.
And was this presentation to show a) that High Performance is
doing their job? b) to receive funding? or c) to receive funding
for only those athletes fortunate enough to be chosen by USAT
for a performance plan?

In my mind I keep hearing the Who song "Won't get fooled again"
and the lyric,
"Meet the new boss
Same as the old
boss"

The 10 athletes were specific. Cheyenne Lewis was named as one
of them.
