International Competition Opportunity

Passing on a note that I received. Always great to pass on this
kind of information. As the writer notes, the more international
experience the better.
" I found some information on the PATU website that I would like
to get out to the masses. There is both a sparring and poomsae
Pan-American Championship in September in which 2 athletes from
each division are eligible. Obviously my interest is in poomsae.
I have 5 athletes that are eligible but no one has been
contacted. From my standpoint the more USA athletes competing
Internationally gaining experience the better. My guess is very
few athletes know about this opportunity, and there are several
that are eligible. There has been very little, if any,
publication of this information on any website, and I was
wondering if you could post this on ladytkd website and fb page?
Here are the links below for both sparring and poomsae:

Elite athletes throughout the Americas are preparing for the
2014 Pan American Taekwondo Championships, which will take place
Sept. 12-14 at the Olympic Gym in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The international event will feature athletes from the 42 member
nations of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) and include
competition in poomsae and senior division sparring. The World
Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and the PATU will govern the rules
and regulations of this event.
In senior division sparring, male and female athletes in eight
categories—fin, fly, bantam, feather, light, welter, middle and
heavy—will compete in single-elimination brackets. Each country
may register only one athlete per weight category, and all
sparring competitors must be at least age 17.
Select USA Taekwondo Senior National Team members have received
invitations to compete in this event. These team members
advanced to the semifinals of the World Class Black Belt
division at the 2013 USAT National Championships, advanced to
the finals in their divisions at the 2014 USAT National Team
Trials and won their divisions at the 2014 USAT National Team
Fight-Off.

In poomsae, athletes will compete in the following categories:
individual—cadet, junior, first senior, second senior, first
master, second master, third master and fourth master; mixed
pairs—cadet, junior, first pair and second pair; male and female
team—cadet, junior, first team and second team; and
freestyle—mixed team. Each country may register up to two
individuals, pairs or teams in all poomsae categories.
To be eligible to compete in poomsae, an athlete must have
placed first or second at the 2014 USA Taekwondo National
Championships in the World Class Poomsae divisions or Cadet
Black Belt divisions in San Jose, Calif. Should either the
first- or second-place finishers decline to compete, the
third-place finisher may take that athlete’s spot. Should any
two of the first-, second- or third-place finishers decline to
compete, the fourth-place finisher may take the spot. If all of
the 2014 USAT National Championships medalists in a division
decline to compete for any reason, then the U.S. will not be
represented in that division.
All first- and second-place poomsae athletes who are interested
in competing at the 2014 Pan American Championships must notify
USAT National Poomsae Coach Barbara Brand at bbrandstc@gmail.com
by August 11. Any eligible athlete who does not declare his or
her intent to compete by August 11 shall be considered as
declining the position, and the next eligible athlete shall be
offered the spot. Third- and fourth-place finishers who are
interested in competing at this event should send an email to
Brand to reserve a spot on the waiting list in case a position
becomes available.
