Who Is Supporting the USAT Teams These Days? not USAT!

The 1st World Cadet Championships begin in about 4 days. USAT is
sending a team which has been mostly self-funded and treated as
second class from the team trials where they learned they would
have to pay their own way, to finding out after their camp began
that their coaches can watch and offer insight.
No point in rehashing how this team got here and how this has
been mismanaged from day one. What is disappointing right now
that these kids are going on the adventure of their lives, with
no fan fare, no acknowledgement, nothing. The USAT website
finally is posting results from Nationals which ended about two
weeks ago, but nothing, not one word about this team. There is
no team photo from their camp, nothing about their camp - not
even a team list of who is competing and who is coaching. We are
less than a month from Youth Olympic Games and no word on who is
coaching the US competitor. Not surprising since there has been
no listing of who coached at the last two events - the Grand
Prix or the Korea Open. USA might have been shut out of the
medals in the Grand Prix but there were winners at the Korea
Open.
I looked at the USAT site, there are no articles on the cadets
except the one where the attorney said it was ok for the coaches
to be at the camp - too late for most coaches to get to COS to
observe.
Who are these kids who have worked so hard to get on this team?
Who are the coaches and staff going with them? Why don't they
deserve any pomp and circumstance when they go? Will their
classmates and parents be the only ones cheering them on from
stateside?
Where is the accounting for the Aspire Camps? How much will the
Cadets be reimbursed -if any at all? Again - who is coaching?
Why is there nothing promoting this team? I just don't get it.

It's becoming difficult to tell if we have a functioning Board
of Directors or not.
The Financial Reports and Form 990 are long overdue (May 15).
The last (published) Audit Committee meeting was March 27.
The last (published) Board Meeting Minutes are from May 26.
The last (published) USAT Staff Report is dated April 30.
The last (published) Strategic Planning Committee meeting was
October 1, 2013.
The last (published) Governance Committee meeting was March 24,
2014.
From the USOC Order of February 27, 2012.
"G. Communications with Members and Transparency of Activities
"95. Section 220524 of the Act provides that an NGB shall be
responsible to the persons and amateur sports organizations it
represents. Further, Section 8.7(l) provides that an NGB shall
be financially and operationally transparent and accountable to
its members.
"96. USAT was lacking in communicating with its members.
Financial information was not communicated to members in a
forthright or timely manner.
"97. Board meetings were conducted for the most part in
executive session, shielding members from minutes that explained
the Board’s activities. Board members were warned not to discuss
Board activities with other members of the organization. This
conduct engendered a feeling of secrecy by the Board among
USAT’s membership.
"98. In general, the Board and USAT management became insular in
its activities and failed to adequately communicate its agendas,
decisions and activities with those it served.
"99. The Hearing Panel finds that USAT has failed to meet its
obligations as an NGB as required by Section 220524 of the Act
and Section 8.7(l) of the USOC Bylaws."
The current Board Chair, Devin Johnson, is hopeless when it
comes to reading and following USOC directives. He failed
utterly to be able to do so when chairing the Governance Task
Force, nearly resulting in the termination of recognition
because of his inability to read what the USOC said.
Here we are again.
