       Safe Sport Implementation

       I read this note on the 5/26/14 BOD minutes. Actually the
       meeting was 5/27 as the 26th was Memorial Day. It may be of
       interest to you, I know it was to me..
       "10. Safe Sport Implementation Issues
       –
       In the executive session,  the Board discussed in some detail
       matters relating to Safe Sport implementation, Ethics and
       Judiciary Hearing Panels, policies regarding termination and
       suspension of memberships, and related matters, with advice from
       Mr. Hess, as counsel to USAT. The Board unanimously approved the
       retention of separate counsel to  handle discipline cases, if
       and as needed or appropriate.
       PROPOSED BOARD ACTION:
       Through email interaction, the Board will review a proposed Safe
       Sport implementation procedure. The
       Board will be asked to approve the procedure by consent without
       a meeting (through email interaction).
       Procedure to be approved how long after the CEO started applying
       it. Hmmm. In any event, I am thrilled to see the BOD taking this
       action.

       Great to see the Board involved.  Not so happy to see such a
       major issue decided by consent via email with no meeting.   Do
       it right.  Take time during a meeting to hash it out. Discuss
       it.  Debate it.  All the benefits.  All the drawbacks.  Let the
       members know what has been done and what is being considered.
       Pull back the curtain.  Let the members know what is going on
       and why.
