       Actually Making the Sport Safe

OK, so we have the fiasco of SafeSport being implemented by the
current CEO without Board oversight, without clear rules,
without set procedures. Some people are being suspended, others
aren't. People are screaming about who is being kicked out.
People are screaming about who isn't being kicked out.
Once again, a poor showing by the CEO. Can't say it wasn't
anticipated. He has been in over his head since day one and
doesn't give a crap about athlete safety. He was FORCED to
       implement SafeSport by the USOC.
So, now that we have this new system in place, does anyone feel
safer? Has anything really changed or is it business as usual?
Is it enough for the members that the USAT "meet the
requirements" of SafeSport placed on it by the USOC without
caring about the actual safety of the athletes?
Are the athletes safer under a CEO who knows from "hearsay" that
certain individuals have assaulted young ladies but doesn't
bother to pursue the issue unless someone forces him to? Are
the athletes any safer under a CEO who doesn't even have the
curiosity to look at the membership records when he hears rumors
to see if the individual(s) involved are USAT members?
Are the athletes any safer under a CEO who refuses/fails to take
action against an individual who has plead or been convicted of
a sex related crime with an athlete as the victim because the
CEO fears it would harm the USAT's standing in a lawsuit? How
many athletes need to be put at risk before the CEO would act?
How many more lawsuits need filed?
It is time for the Board to show that they will not have their
names attached to such behavior and that they understand the
membership deserves better. It is time for the Board to show
that they care about the safety of the athletes. It is time for
the Board to take control of important policy. Review it,
redraft it and hire a competent CEO to implement it.

The USAT seems to have its share of issues. My kids have gone
thru youth sports with out any issues. I always kept a very
close eye on them. This is a problem across society and we all
       need to be diligent.

Something that I find interesting is that many of the names on
the list and another I know that never made the list but is on
the Sex Offender Registry, unless they are in jail, are all
running schools. So USAT terminates a membership for being a sex
offender, in the one case for example, but he still has a
thriving school. Don't parents check this list?
