New Communication System Crashing?

- This was announced 11/6/14
- 2 months ago. Questions weeks old do not have a status. In
fact, who can find them? I tracked something like 7-10 clicks
to find an article of which I did not know the status. This is
as bad or worse than the non-tracking system.
USA Taekwondo CEO Bruce Harris said: ‘We recently surveyed the
membership and one of the issues that came through too often for
our liking was that some people feel we could do a more
responsive job when it comes to handling questions. As a group
this was an issue we were already aware of and had for the last
couple of months been working on a solution which we believe
represents a major step forward for the organization.
We’ll be publishing our average response times regularly so you
can see exactly how we’re doing, and aim to get them down to
below 24 hours wherever possible. This means you should not have
to wait for your answer! We’ll be using the detailed analytics
to assess and modify our procedures on an ongoing basis to
ensure we are working more efficiently than ever!
I’m delighted with the results and hope it will be embraced by
everyone interested in furthering the cause of Taekwondo. It’s
also exciting to have a platform for people to put forward
ideas, and you can be sure we are listening and will act on them
wherever possible! Together we are stronger!”
From this point forward we would ask that any questions are
submitted through one of the following methods where possible.
(Translation - don't call us, don't email us, use this system.)
1) Visit usataekwondo.uservoice.com and use the ‘contact
support’ button, including the nature of your enquiry in the
first line of your message* (e.g. Membership question, US Open
enquiry etc.)
2) Clicking the ‘Need Help?’ button on the front page of the
USA Taekwondo website (coming soon).
3) Emailing your enquiry to
tickets@usataekwondo.uservoice.com including the nature of your
enquiry in the subject line
Well - 2 months later - no " 2) Clicking the ‘Need Help?’
button on the front page of the USA Taekwondo website (coming
soon). " Might delete the soon button.
Two months in and the program is crashing already. The way it
also works is if you are interested in a subject - vote on it.
Below find a couple of questions which although online for
weeks, no answer. Of course no one can find it. Notice also
that the original question has no date on it - so hard to track
unless you check daily. However, responses, a lot of which are
1/6/15 are posted. Wonder why?
Meeting Notes From The 11/3/14 Annual Congress?
Are the meeting notes published from the 11/3/14 Annual Congress
available on the website in either a written, video, or audio
format? As it is two months after the fact I would think these
would be available for those that could not be on the
call.
What happened to the money raised from the aspire camps? Where
is the paper trail on how it was spent?
A lot of coaches are asking time table for team trails, they
need to make sure there athletes are peaking at the right
moments. Thank you for any info. social media is asking.
I think it is a great idea - but it is not easy to get to the
page - it is not kept up - it is not followed up - it is
impossible to follow a thread if the status changes and the
thread moves - and having the buttons Hot - New - etc.. fine -
except then you have to change status. Very cumbersome.
Once again, good idea, poor execution.

By: Bagehot Date: January 8, 2015, 5:14 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
One of the things that annoyed me the most about the
Askinas/Parthen CEO methodology was the continuing habit of
"rolling out" new programs, promising to "roll out" new
programs, or promising to think up new programs to "roll out."
After a while, it became clear that every such "roll out" came
with flat tires.
In hindsight, these were individuals practiced in making bold
promises to divert from current failures. It is a classic
characteristic of failed or failing CEOs. It can also be a
characteristic of well-meaning CEOs falling into the trap of
attempting to appear to move forward with insufficient resources
to do so.
On the other hand, two of the key purposes of a "Board of
Directors" is to provide resources and oversight.
The USAT has begun the year 2015 with a major overhaul of its
website (long overdue), but with a remarkably dysfunctional
start-up, seemingly guaranteed to frustrate users, or for that
matter, by leaving off key contact information as to staff and
phone numbers, guaranteed to frustrate anybody who might want to
contact USAT about anything.
The former website was a nightmare. Somebody was on LSD when
they dreamed up that confusing, unusable, bizarre template.
The new website is simply not user friendly. It wasn't ready to
"roll out" and it is really difficult to understand why that
happened. In theory, it seems pretty simple. "Make sure
everything works, beta test it, put it on a background site,
send some volunteers there to test the features, and then, if
everything works, run it over to the main domain location."
Obviously, that didn't happen. A prospective donor, attempting
to use that site to gauge his enthusiasm for donating to the
USAT, would come away unimpressed with the quality of the
information, including the fact that the USAT appears to have no
phone number. I get the sense that this was yet another
staff-driven project by a staff that isn't that engaged in the
project of "the USAT" and whose web design skills are
perfunctory, at best.
Why do we do that? Over and over?
Here's today's positive suggestion:
Website Committee. USAT is seeking volunteers for a
Website committee, seeking people with website skills, marketing
experience, and good ideas.
Activity. The committee will meet regularly, by phone or email,
or in person if they wish, to design a website, and create an
operating manual for use by staff, to create and maintain the
USAT website, and to continually improve its operating
characteristics.
Purpose:
1) Design and Maintain the USAT website to ensure a positive,
exciting and informative experience for potential donors and
potential members.
2) To facilitate and communicate in an effective fashion
important information to officials, athletes, coaches and
instructors, and to do so in such a fashion as to make each use
of the website satisfying, efficient, informative, and
stimulating.
3) To ensure that the website contains detailed governance and
management information that can be relied on by members, staff,
and board members to enhance their communications and
understanding of USAT operations.
4) To enable grass roots support and growth by offering timely
news, club reports, and features. This will include offering
member clubs, organizations and state associations website space
to promote their activities in a national forum setting.
5) To promote the sale of USAT branded items.
6) To encourage participation in Taekwondo by making experiences
with the USAT website EXCITING!
I doubt that the USAT has any say about the USAT website
whatsoever. Compare it to the USA Wrestling website, or USA
Team Handball. Practically identical. Scroll down to the very
bottom and look: copyright United States Olympic Committee.
All Rights Reserved. I suppose each NGB has the option of
screwing their website up in any way they choose, but I'm not
sure about that.
Looks like appointment of NGB status comes with website marching
orders, although USA Swimming does look a little bit different.
Taekwondo has a unique characteristic in that there is more to
TKD than just the sport, while that isn't true of any other
sport, that I'm aware of. So USAT has a dual function of
kowtowing to the USOC and somehow preserving and promoting
traditional TKD. They see where the real money is. Would it be
a better idea to split off the Olympic function from the
'discipline' of TKD in its entirety? Has Don's idea gained any
traction?
USAT has a say. However, USOC pays them $75K a year to
have it, so USAT needs money.
The bigger issue is that it can be manipulated to be current and
timely and user friendly. USAT won't do it. It is a lot of
work.
