USAT Really Blew It This Time
By: Ladytkd Date: January 7, 2015, 1:47 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ron Marlow posted this on USAT Referees FB page:
"USAT initiated a new service "USAT is Listening" and encouraged
members to send in questions, comments and suggestions" and
various staff members but mostly the new marketing staffer Steve
McNally would attempt to answer or respond. Recently the
controversy over changes in what constitutes "approved uniforms
and gear" has produced many very concerned member questions and
comments. Those appear to have been removed from this page."
Yes, if you go through the USAT site, the link has been
orphaned, just like the telephone number and address and staff
list. However, if you have the original link, it is still there.
This has to be one of the worst decisions made out of COS.
1. No one can find it anything on the USAT Site anyway, so a
limited number of people saw it.
2. The discussion on this had DIED.
3. So by deleting the topic with USAT answers that were already
copy and pasted so they can be thrown back at USAT at any time
any way, nothing was accomplished but:
4. Demonstrating that USAT is not listening, does not answer and
does not care about the concerns of the members.
Wanted this ended a few days ago - hello -- when the question
was posted, a simple notice that said "While USAT had discussed
having a Branded program at the Annual Meeting, we have decided
that we have not progressed far enough in the planning stages to
implement this program at this time. Please support our official
vendors in the meantime." Everyone would have assumed that
Vision jumped the gun. But no, all the bs about the State
Association Manuals NOT changing - lie and proven to be a lie.
The bit about rules not changing but never enforced. Come one.
All you did was toss a bomb in a dead fire by deleting an honest
question which never would have been asked if Vision hadn't
posted their announcement and USAT had simply communicated and
communicated in an honest, sincere and transparent manner
leaving out the same old "rumor mongering," "naysayers" and
"internet conspiracy."
Congratulations USAT Staff - now you have everyone wondering
what you have to hide. You have lost all semblance of
credibility as far as USAT is Listening, because obviously based
on what I see on that page and what I don't see, USAT isn't. It
was a good try but you killed it.

USAT has a "marketing" guy and he plunges the organization into
chaos over what to wear at tournaments? Which affects everyone?
Parents, kids, coaches, instructors? And the Referees are
supposed to enforce ... what? When? Where?
Is this the high powered "marketing" solution that was supposed
to result from an Independent Board, composed of individuals
with impressive resumes and skillsets in areas like ...
marketing?
The former website was awful; a dramamine nightmare. The new
website appears to be next to useless.
After being involved in this organization and its predecessors
since the beginning, I would love to be able to say, about
something, "good job."
And, it's not that hard to do a "good job." But transient staff
and transient boards have inherent problems. We are suffering
through some of them now. It comes at a "great time," just as
clubs are deciding whether to register for the new year or not.
If you are going to create a "marketing" and communication
fiasco, why not do it just when it has the maximum negative
impact on registrations and memberships? Perhaps this is the
result of the "strategic planning" that the Board tasked itself
to develop and then ... didn't.

Steve your total lack of being a professional is really bad
timing. It is your job to correct and insure that correct info
goes out, instead you say rumors when it is in every state
manual. So if you don't even know what is truly out there why
belittle the members? Bad and very disrespectful of you.

I want to take a different approach and say Thank You to Steve
for making my decision NOT to renew my family's USAT membership
this year. After several yeas of loyal support to USAT, it is
this kind of poor customer service, blatant lies and lack of
consideration for the grassroots program that has finally
convinced me and my family to opt out until USAT is fixed. With
this decision alone USAT will lose 3 competitors, 1 coach and 1
B2 level referee.
We can complain all we want to deaf ears, but the only true
solution is to hit USAT where it counts...the pocketbook. I urge
everyone to evaluate all they have experienced with USAT over
the years and really ask yourself if it is truly worth your
membership. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and
Indomitable Spirit, these are the things we teach our students
not only verbally but through example and if our lead
origination cannot demonstrate these core values, we must ask
ourselves what are our students learning by being a part of it?

Steve,
With all due respect I m surprised by what I interpret to be the
condescending response to what appears to be a reasonable
question from a member. How bout a little, "Thank you for your
question and interest in USAT events....".
You are in fact the only ones that can control rumor mongering
and speculation. Frequent and transparent communication is the
antidote.

Steve - I think you should read the 2015 USAT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
MANUAL that is published on the website, page 8 about 6
sentences down from the top:
"ALL athletes will be required to wear USAT or WTF approved
Dobok and Equipment. This must be strickly enforced by
State Association and the assigned referees. For list of USAT
and/or WTF approved equipment visit the USAT Website."
It would seem the "rumor-mongering and speculation" is on the
website you control, would you care to redo your response?

The deleted conversation on the USAT site is useful to look at:
USAT approved uniforms/gear
The new requirement for all competitors at state championships
to wear USAT approved uniforms and gear is going to be a major
hurdle to increasing membership and participation at the
state-level.
I understand that USAT wants to support their sponsors, but it's
unreasonable to suppose that parents will plunk down the money
for a brand-name uniform, just because it's required for one or
two tournaments that they'll go to before their kid outgrows
that uniform.
Support grassroot development by making it EASIER (not HARDER)
for people to compete.

Until you read an official announcement from USA Taekwondo it is
not policy.
There has not been any official announcement on this matter.
We cannot control rumor-mongering and speculation
unfortunately.
USAT wants suggestions about how to develop and grow USA
Taekwondo. It deleted some good advice:

HARDER) for people to compete.
Now, there's "marketing genius" for you: delete good advice,
insult members AND get all your facts wrong.

Can't find a list of officers on the new website, no address, no
phone numbers.
Seems like "really poor planning" with the US Open coming up,
club renewals state qualifiers starting, controversies and
confusion in all directions to ... not have a phone number
posted, just when it is likely the most necessary time period to
have it available.

But they would have to answer the phone and the call would be
logged and if they didn't return it in 48 hours - uhhh ohhhh.
So no calls, no bad reviews for not returning calls people can't
make because they can't find the number.

The USAT makes it very difficult for its members....other
options do present themselves for athletes! Other countries are
starting to recruit heavly in the USA and it is becoming a very
real option for those who can't obtain dual citizenship. They
seem to think that they are the only game in town that really is
not the case! Many people are exploring other options based on
the issues that the USAT creates for its members.
