       A Killing Art

       I wanted to register and post a thank you to Panther in case he
       is out there watching.  I believe I've recognized him in here
       from some of the posts; he has a distinctive writing style.  I
       finally got around to reading 'A Killing Art' and it was an
       eye-opener.  Made me wonder about Mr. Harris' immersion in that
       culture and how it has affected how he runs the kluge that is
       USAT.
       USAT kind of reminds me of Vladimir Putin.  You don't have an
       honest response? Lie.  Be audacious about it.  Don't worry about
       being convincing; what matters is you responded.  If you are
       planning to attack, begin immediate talks for a cease fire.
       Feeling like invading?  Begin talking about humanitarian aid.
       Want to seize total power?  Begin touting democracy.
       The USAT is really just the USOC's bitch.  It's their website.
       It looks like all the other NGB websites.  They pick the
       coaches.  They pick the athletes, then the USAT goes about
       making it all look legit, best they can.  It's all about
       marketing and money.  They want lots of gold medals (=$$) but
       don't really care about fair and open access and competition.
       It's really too disgusting to watch.  I refuse to care about it.
