The more you hassle them the longer they will take. It's the
local police doing the checks that causes the delays not the
       civilian staff in Lisnasharragh.

I ended up getting onto BASC at 3 1/2 months, and PSNI said it
would be out the next day. Two weeks later, still nothing, so
rang BASC again, and then got a call from PSNI, a senior
manager. It will be out first post tomorrow, we've had a lot of
holidays and sickness, and need "clarification too" so sent them
an email. Two weeks later and still nothing, just about to ring
BASC yet again when it turned up.
But out of spite because I contacted BASC they put a 6 month
supervision order on it, despite having over 50 years PROVEN
firearms history with everything upto 460 weatherby magnum ???
But BASC are very quick, and very good, and get not it the same
day, and ring you back t let you know what's happening.

I also put in for a variation in Dec past, heard nothing for
months other than the letter of conformation and that they
cashed the £26 cheque within a few weeks of receiving my
application. Rang Lisnasharragh 3mths later and they told me I
should have been contacted by my local FEO, after several
attempts I got hold of him and he quite calmly said he had a
letter and that he hadn't got around to getting it to me. To cut
a long story short I had to go to Ballymena station lift the
letter only to find the contents stating I had 21 days to make
my reply or my application would be refused. Now the time
difference between Firearms branch writing the letter and the
incompetence of the PSNI in forwarding same to me 62 days had
lapsed so guess what Firearms had to say??
After a very heated phone call to Lisnasharragh (I'd lost the
temper & probably done me no favours) and BASC on the case to be
honest I am quite surprised I haven't had the refusal letter yet
so I'm going to ring everyday starting from tomorrow until I
either get the variation granted or they return my certificate
       to me

Yep, its becoming a joke, as they are doing his to push their
application for massively higher fees. They state that once heir
massively increased fees are passed, they will suddenly improve
       massively !!
WHY ? Why should massive fee increases make a difference, unless
they get massive pay n creases with hem too of course, in which
case they aren't doing heir jobs now, so don't warrant extra
money and should be sacked instead. Fortunately I have a very
good FEO, just HQ at Lisnaharagh let down what would otherwise
       be an excellent service

Have you spoke to the lovely person who is actually dealing with
your paperwork? I had a similar problem and went down this
       route.
After a while I then asked to speak to her senior officer (not
to go over her head but you just want to fight your own corner)
and she informed me that all the paperwork now seemed to be fine
and there would be no need for the senior manager to get
involved....got the FAC 2days later. Might be worth going down
this road. All the best with it

The girl dealing with my variation, or the girl I assume thats
dealing with mine as she was the one signed the letter to me is
       the 'senior firearms licensing manager',
Before I ring tomorrow is there anyone higher I could be
       speaking too?

Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of "Senior Firearms
       Licencing Managers" in Lisnaharagh ???

Somethings not right, 5 months is a hell of a long time. I just
got a variation back within 3 weeks, That was with Easter
       holidays and a land check.

That is crazy slow!! I know two fellas who applied for their fac
(first gun) before Christmas and got it 3 weeks ago. It was
shotguns they were getting but had no gun club behind them and
       first time is normally slower!!
I got my .22 Christmas 2011 and I had asked for the variation
before buying the rifle (incase didn't get) I actually ended up
with the fao ringin me every week to say hurry up!!
I'd be on to them but as said be polite as they could take
thick-tell them your risking loosing a deposit on the rifle or
       something-might hurry them a bit.
