       CZ 455 "Safari Sniper"

I've finally got the new stock for my cz 455 finished... kinda
anyway... lol I might need to start calling it something else,
but the names quite accurate, I find alot of rimfire stocks feel
a bit light and thin, almost like a toy, so this stock gives the
455 a proper safari rifle / sniper rifle feel. its heavier than
the original, but not too heavy, plus its well balanced. my
philosophy has always been that i prefer a gun to feel like a
gun, as weight = stability = accuracy :)
making this stock has been the hardest so far. My plan had been
to make this as a template which can then be put into a
duplicator and copied, so wasnt too worried about the final
finishing. I had an old p14 target rifle stock I picked up cheap
on ebay, so I decided to use it as a base, bed the action into
it, shape the stock a bit in places using files, fill a few
holes with filler, and job done, seemples! wrong... :( seemed
that everything that could go wrong with this stock did; after i
spent ages fitting the action i realised the comb went up at too
sharp an angle... easy enough to sort, level the comb, but it
meant that the butt was too high in the shoulder, so needed an
adjustable pad fitted... but then the stock was too short, so i
had to fit the adjustable pad to an extendable fitting... then i
found that the build quality on the original stock was somewhat
lacking... ie one side of the forend was thicker than the other
       - thank god for belt sanders ::) heres a pic before painting

i could have spent alot more time sanding and finishing but as
this is only intended to be a template theres not much point, so
I gave it a couple of coats of acrylic paint to cover the wood
filler, and its ready. now i just need to get out some time and
test it, make sure it does what its supposed to, then ill make a
few copies - I've a nice block of walnut thats begging to be cut
into a stock and given a nice oil finish, so ill see what
       happens... ;)

quicker, but im not a major fan of synthetic stocks on rifles,
plus why pay £300 - £400 for something i can make myself for
about £50 and a bit of time and effort?? ;)

True, which is why I searched around and found a Boyds going
cheap (under 50% of normal price) and hand fitted it myself lol.
Wuld have been looking at £500.00 to buy and have fitted at a
gunsmith, instead it cost me just £90.00 ;D

you know im just thinking, that butt is begging to be cut off
where the inlet is, the grip made into a pistol grip and an m4
style folding stock attached just in behind the receiver, along
with a few rails on the forend, and a nice colt gray duracoat
       finish.... hmmm....
