stepson put in for a .223 today gundealer reckons 4/6weeks for
the FAC to be back so we will see wudnt be banking on it
although his rimfire took 1 week a few months ago to come threw

variation i send away and if it comes back b4 that its a bonus.

A few years back it was taking anything up to 2 YEARS for a
variation or grant ???
Depends if they want to piss you off or not, as they are civil
servants and not serving police officers ???

Can't see being a serving police officer making a difference to
an individuals opinion of someone. It's not the civvies that are
holding things up. It's the police themselves. They have kpi's
and targets to reach regarding firearms licencing.

well everything you said in your last post was true mate lol ive
had to go to town a couple of times on them, and its funny but a
couple of mla's told me they believe there is a high level...
conspiracy is not the right word, possibly strategy??... to try
to limit the number of guns in circulation and put people off
owning firearms, and they werent the typical conspiracy theorist
types ones either lol
im a member of basc, have been since i started shooting, simply
because they seem to be the most high profile organisation and
theyve helped me out a few times, so i agree with what you say
about joining an organisation. also i would advise everyone to
read the firearms law and legislation, alot of feo's (and
lisnasharragh at times) come up with their own fantastic rules
and regulations, so challenge it if necessary. and not that i
would ever imply that some of them in lisnasharragh couldnt find
their ass with both hands, but i once got a snotty letter saying
they wouldnt process my application for a variation because
there was no information on where my current rifle had gone... -
so i had to ring and tell them to look at the sheet stapled to
the variation forms, which showed the rifle had been left into
tandragee psni station to be destroyed... ::)

Interesting that you mention a strategy. I believe there is
currently a high profile, top secret agenda that has been
implemented in order to reduce the quantity of firearms in
circulation. Naturally this will be denied, but why else does it
take so long to process applications and make decisions?
Hesitating to grant the certificate or variation doesn't achieve
anything. I would love to know how many shooters work for the
FEB, and what their experiences are of waiting times. It is a
public service that we the public pay for out of our own
pockets. It's the equivalent of paying your bus fare in advance,
not knowing when or if the bus will turn up.

well thats what i wondered at the time as well, got fed up with
waiting times and started emailing mla's, and some of the
replies i got were interesting to say the least. I cant work out
why it takes so long, looking at the figures theres about 60,000
facs in northern ireland, so thats £3,000,000 every 5 years for
renewals alone. now factor in RFD fee's and variation fee's,
plus explosives licence fees then you could easily be talking £5
million pounds every 5 years!
I dont know how many FEO's there are and how many staff are in
Lisnasharragh so I cant deduct staff costs,but it makes you
wonder how the liscensing is running at a loss, plus all the new
procedures for one on/offs with similar calibre rifles should
surely cut down an awful lot of the paper work and processing
time?

Add on the £26 for every variation and you could be talking an
extra £7.8 million if each certificate holder was to do one
variation per year for 5 years. Done a quick bit of maths there
and if there are 60000 certificate holders in NI and each of
them wanted a variation or grant, each person could have 8.76
minutes of time allocated to them. There is no hope in hell that
60000 certificates are going to be processed in one year. It
would be good to know the average total processed each year for
initial grants and variations, just so we could have a ballpark
figure to work with. That means the average amount of time
allocated to each certificate holder is more than the actual 8
minutes of time it takes to process an application. That doesn't
factor in security/background checks and land checks etc, but
these for the most part aren't necessary if you already have a
certificate. Someone somewhere is telling bare faced lies to the
shooting community here.
