Had a short window of opportunity this evening and at almost 3pm
I headed for a shot. Flushed 7 altogether. It included a pair
which sort of took me by surprise and it resulted in me shooting
at the easier of the two first. It quicky fell to the shot and I
turned to try the second but didnt manage to get a shot. Shot a
further two and was back at the landy for 4.50 under the light
of the big moon. Not a bad start to the weekend, hoping for a
good day tomorrow starting about 11.

Thats a beautiful photo mate, id get that framed, well done,
hoping to have so better luck tomoro, giving a good frost
tonight!

Hi guys how's things was out this morning put one woodcock up
one shot brought him down :) so duck broke for season aslo put 2
snipe up I forgot how fast they were but got one :)

Any luck today woodcock? We Got 8 today, was out all day though
they sure arent making it easy for us, had to work hard, the
dogs are f@cked as am i!?

Good result springerman, well done. Its worth the effort and
sore legs. How many was in your shoot party today?
I had an interesting day myself, somewhat frustrating but came
good in the end. Hunted from 11.30 until 3. The first two birds
flushed and shot in 15mins. Flushed the 3rd and missed but
watched in land in again a few hundred meters away in the
direction I was headed. By the time I got to it I had flushed 3
more without getting a shot. I then put the dog in where the 1st
one had went and a pair came out again without a shot being
offered. That was 6 flushes without a bird bagged. Nothing for
the next 20 mins then suddenly another pair erupted from cover,
this time in open ground nothing in the way and both flying
directly away from me. PRESSURE ON, bang the first bird gave a
shake, I changed to the second assuming i had connected and
promptly dropped the second only to realise the the 1st bird was
still going. GRRR! Carried on in that direction for 4-500m when
the dog picked up on a scent, enters the bushes and appears with
a dead but still warm woodcock, the 1st of the pair which had
flew on and my first L+R of the season accounted for. The day
settled down somewhat after that. I went on to flush 15
altogether and finished with 6 birds. I missed a couple of
really easy birds which I shouldnt have and dont normally. My
shooting isnt great at the minute.
Just a pic or two from near the end of the day. 5 birds on the
bridge and the one more.

good going woodcock, i put up 4 today but got none only got a
snap shot at 2 and wasnt really on them have to find new
permission i think cos theres a few places i have and they are
getting tramped all week now by 2 many out of work shooters

Brilliant stuff, i flushed one today, and it came at me head on,
had the gun pointed at it but would have blown it to mash had it
took the early shot, took the gun down and waved my arms, it
broke right, and flew directly into the sun, i remounted and
fired in the general direction, no good, squeezed again this
time hitting it in the ass, i watched as it almost glided to the
ground but never actually fell, it must have got a second wind
and made it about 200 yards into the cover of some fir trees i
hunted that ground for another 20 mins but never got that bird,
managed 4 others and my mate the same, thankfully no misses
except that one!

day, that's a hell of a big lookin woodcock in your dog's mouth
