I also got the set up with a 3-9x40 hawke, I hated its total
       rubbish
       I got myself a leapers swat 8 - 32x56 it makes shooting at 180
yards easier as you can see it
More clearly... shooting at 300 yards isn't impossible (ive
never tried) their are some fellas on youtube
       Reaching 450-500 (targets)
I would recommend a leapers swat best value for money :)
If you want you can check mine out.

The first part of the numbering system regarding optics is the
magnification ie how many times the scope magnifies what you are
looking at. These fall into two brackets, fixed and variable
magnification. Take a 6x40 for example. This is fixed at 6x
magnification the 6 means it magnifies what you are looking to
appear 6 times larger than your eye sees it. A variable scope
say a 3-9x40 , the mag can be adjusted to make the image appear
larger or smaller in this case between 3 and 9 times larger than
       natural vision.
Hope you are still with me. The part of the numbering after the
X referrs to the size of the objective lens size in mm. This is
the end of the scope farthest away from your eye. In the above
example 3-9X40 the lens is 40mm diameter. The larger the lens
the more light it lets in and provides a brighter image
       especially in low light.
If you wish to shoot large animals like foxes for example the
12x magnification would be plenty even at 400yds. However if you
wish to shoot targets at this distance then 24x or even greater
would be an advantage. As for objective lens size anything from
40-56mm shoud do with the larger giving a brighter picture
       especially in low light.
The main thing to go for in a scope whatever the size is quality
optics. I havn't been able to afford a good quality scope yet
but my father always used schmitt and bender scopes and the
difference in image quality between them and my £100 scopes is
unbelievable. Expect to pay £500+ for decent optics. Hope this
       is of some help.

The biggest scope you could possibly use for foxing would be a
6-24x56(or a 50), using the 6 for night shooting, and the 24 for
clear day shooting. A 3-9x50 is also good. The smaller the
number at the front, the lower the magnification, and the more
light is let in, which is what you want at night (don't shoot
very far at night anyway, as you can't see very far, even with a
lamp, or night vision) and you need a safe margin behind the
       target too.
Realistically, you'll do 90% of your shooting within 100 metres,
another 8% or 9% at 150 metres, 1.5% at 200 metres, and MAYBE
       0.5% at 200 metres plus

Quick note, if you can't afford German original optics, them get
good quality medium priced optics. I would stay Lear of the
Hawke or unknown optics. Better in the medium priced optics is
Bushnell or Leapers. These very will pay £250.00 to £350.00 in
UK shops, BUT, the same optics can be bought from CHINA/HONG
KONG for a fraction of the price. Don't let that put you off,
these are the same optical as they are all produced there. nd
you can expect to pay £35.00 - £80.00 INCLUDING post direct.
DO NOT buy German branded optics from there, as these are just
cheap copies and will not NE any where near as good.
Buy from a reputable company (I use Prince sports ) and they are
reliable and supply good optics and packaging at a reasonable
       price.
If you want GERMAN optics, buy from Germany

What's wrong with the Hawke range. I was thinking of going for a
sidewinder for my new Superten cause I can get them at a good
       price.
Have you any experience of the chinese ones and if so have you
any links for them and Prince Sports or a recommeded scope for
       the Superten.
       Thanks
       Salar6
