However, general licences issued under the Act are still in
place in Wales and Scotland, and under the Wildlife Order in
Northern Ireland. These allow an authorised person to control
starlings to prevent serious damage to agriculture or preserve
public health and safety. The RSPB believes that this should
only be done if there is no alternative solution.

when I was a nipper my Granda had an old Bakiel single barrel
which was full choke - he shot it up into a flock of starlins
(sky rats) and took 14 of them out - I thought it was so funny
and a hell of effort for an old man ;D

Just making the point that the farmer had called them in but
could be construed by others that it was only a few starlings
how could they cause severe agricultural damage. There was a
post on the BSA owners group site giving a table under which
certain things were being shot. If asked by a MOP(member of
public) for what reason they were being shot severe agricultural
damage and for public health safety covered most of them.
Not criticising but just be aware anti's can join forums to
gather info, or am I just paranoid?
