The age old question of whats best to bring in wild duck to our
flight ponds!? I know people still use the traditional wheat
and Barley has anyone any other ideas (spuds, apples etc) that
are less financially draining in these austere times, i have
heard oil seed rape works well, one guy told me he used
bananas??? But then he was always a Bullsh@tter!!! Anyone?

I have tried all sorts of standard feeds and found not much
difference in any of them. My wifes father grows potatoes for a
living and I started about 10 years ago feeding the spoiled
potatoes as I was getting them for free (damaged green or rotten
ones) I found if they were lying in the water a while with not
ducks at them or if I was feeding to many at once they started
to rot and pollute the water. I then discovered if I boiled them
in a barrel before feeding it stopped them tainting the water
and also the duck seemed to be able to eat them much more
easily. I ended up with far too many duck so I stopped feeding
and the duck still come although in much smaller numbers but
plenty for me. So boiled potatoes was my best feed.

Nice one, when we use patotoes we crush them into bit sizes and
put a half bag or so in a large freezer, then let them thaw out
and put them into the ponds, duck seem to love it as well as the
apples! I have seen times when the spuds are completely gone and
there is some residual grain left over, proving i suppose they
       perfer it to the grain!

ive found no real differance between barley and wheat, i also
keep the spud peelings when making chips etc and get family and
friends to keep them as well you soon gather up a fair ammount
that way, plus they are always gone the next day when we go to
       feed the pond,
