THE RIGHT TIME OF YEAR TO STOP SHOOTING ALTOGETHER ??

guys it doesnt look like im going to get my fac before the end
of jan, i know some guys shoot pigeons and crows all year, but
obviously there is a close season for these as well ? i know
they are vermin but surely its not right to shoot the adults and
leave the young starving in the nests. so i guess what im asking
is roughly what months do they usually have young in the nests.
cheers

pigeons will clutch all year round if the weather is mild enough
...
and if you want permission to shoot you'd best be prepared to
shoot pigeons/crows/rabbits and fox all year round ..

pigeons peak around May/June. Personally, I stop after the
spring barley has gone in early April. then I don't start again
until the combines are going full tilt in August. Of course,
there is always an exception. If a farmer needs crops protected
then you just got to do the job to keep the ground. but the
thought of starving squabs in the nest does put me off a tad.

Its a vexed issue, some agree and say its not right to shoot
during breeding season, others who have a job controling these
vermin have no qualms about it has the young dont survive, we're
down the moral road again folks RE: shooting!

I see your points. If its protection of crops and im asked to do
it then its prob only manners to do it.but i just meant when out
and about in general and when to give them some peace to breed.
Cheers for the replies :)

Personally I'll shoot pigeons for the first 2 weeks in February
and then give them a rest until August, end of July if they are
hitting the wheat/barley hard.

I never fire a shot from March to mid July barring the odd
magpie grey crow or fox. I start again round last week of July
or when the 1st winter barley is cut.

which is probably why the farmer lets us shoot their grounds in
the first place!
