How to Get Started Hunting

Hey folks,
I've joined the forum today and as the title suggest, I was
wondering where do you start if you wanted to begin hunting? If
you have a pined posted somewhere, would be grateful if someone
could provide a link?
Edit: Should probably specify my knowledge on the matter is next
to none.

Hi welcome to the group first of all do you have a shotgun or
rifle,or do you need to apply for one, do you know anybody
friends or family that hunt, and what is your local area.
I don't think there is a pinned post but most people on here
will try and help.

Cheers for replying Bill and Snap, my area is Coleraine, north
coast area and Belfast. Depends on work or not so flexible for
both. Likewise no I don't own a firearm, I haven't applied for a
license since I would like to have a bit more understanding
before I decided upon one. Finally, no I don't have any friends
or family who go hunting. One of my Uncles did before so that's
why I'm interested in it, but he stopped all that years ago and
I can't really ask him about it either. I did try and look for a
group around Belfast, just something I could ask questions on
the matter but I couldn't find anyone in particular.

Any questions you have ask away somebody will have the answers,
nobody will put you down for asking we all had to start
somewhere.

Thanks for understanding and being welcoming :). Would I need a
license or take a class to be allowed to hunt? Likewise would
you suggest with something small to see if I actually want to do
it. Like a rabbit or fox?

You will need to go to a gun dealer if you want to own a rifle
or shotgun get the details of gun and then send of to psni to
apply for either, gun dealer could fill out your application
online, a good entry level is a shotgun if you want to hunt.You
do have a probation period i think its a year before you can go
out without being accompanied by someone who has had a gun for 3
years, so you would need a friend to go out with plus you will
need a landowners permission to shoot on his land and two
referees for your application.
A lot of hoops to jump through before you can own a gun.
