Aya Side by side for duck

Posted that i have a modern semi auto for wildfowling Wanted to
ask any member on the forum do they use a side by side for duck
[steel shot over water] Always loved the look of a side by side
over any other shotgun A Gundealer told me that most side by
sides are not proofed for steel shot which i knew anyway but if
chokes 1/4 and 1/2 in the barrels light steel cartridges would
be ok Any one on forum Use Them ????????

Most guns will take standard steel shot through any size choke ,
its only high performance steel shot that guns need proofing for
and no more than 1/2 choke is recommended

Not exactly true Child 21 reference steel shot and high
performance steel shot, very close though. Spot on for choke
       recommendations though.
Yes there is steel shot and high performance steel shot (and
ultra from Eley). It is in the actual markings on the barrel
that determine if a steel proofed barrel can handle the high
performance steel shot. If the barrel is marked Steel Shot then
it is proofed for steel shot. It must have the fleur-de-lys
stamp to be proofed for high performance steel shot as well.
Also important is checking if removable chokes are proofed for
steel, some are and some are not.
why not use bismuth as an alternative, yes drawbacks but will
not ruin a lovely side by side.
Here is a link to the steel shot info.

yes, more than likely the case. Contacting manufacturers would
be an option for clarity as well.

No i am not wrong... if it says steel proof or shows the fluer
de lys it is proofed for hp steel shot ...
standard steel can be put through most guns without a problem ,
ive put up links on here in the past about such

"Steel Shot" stamp on barrel means it is only proofed for steel
shot, the barrels require "steel shot" AND the fleur-de-lys to
prove they have been proofed for high performance steel shot.
We will agree to differ on this Child21.
It is up to the individual as to what they shoot through their
own firearms and if they damage it or those around them, then on
their own head be it. My previous advice does not change
       regarding steel.
If in doubt, check with the firearm manufacturer.

Thanx forum for the advice was talking to a gundealer well
[respected] at great clay ground Any shotgun will take standard
steel shot ie light steel cartridges as long as its not choked
tighter than half. High performance steel shot has to go through
barrels marked with steel shot mark.Explained ive a modern semi
auto which will take any steel up to 3 half inches Im gona buy a
aya no3 or no 4 for the odd pheasant and if i take it up to the
lough i can put Light steel in it :)
