From what I'm led to believe, you need authority from the police
force of every county that you intend to travel through. Sounds
like a lot of paperwork, but your best bet is to call the
firearms branch here.

All you need is your FAC - it's accepted by all UK forces
You could also bring a European firearms pass - but that's not
necessary
I know this from travelling over there several times a year

Point to note ref air rifles/air pistol.
An air rifle/air pistol held on NI FAC is not accepted in
Scotland currently. You require a permit from Scottish Police
force.

I see this dosen't come into force in Scotland till January 2017
and the other thing i got from website was.
Where a visitor holds a valid firearm or shotgun certificate,
there are transitional arrangements whereby they may possess an
air rifle in Scotland without a visitor permit for as long as
the certificate is valid. If the visitor holds both firearm and
shotgun certificates, the validity of the latest to expire is
the operative date. Once a certificate has expired, they must
apply to Police Scotland for a visitor permit.

Rim-fire is fine, the only point to note is reference Air
Rifles and air pistols. Hopefully we (SACS) are able to sort
this issue out ref NI FAC acceptance for air rifle.
I will keep you posted to any updates.
