The new guy

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site & new to shooting.
I'm currently in the process of getting my first .22 rifle.
Though the only problem is getting a land owner to sign the form
for me. Am I best trying to find a farmer or should I join a
club?
Thanks, Gerry

Hi and welcome,i think if you get .22 using gun club like target
shooting you can only use it at club you would need a farmers
permission if you wish to use it for vermin etc,and you will
only be aloud to use it on land which you have permission to use
it on.

Are you applying for a .22 air rifle or a .22 LR as you have to
justify a good reason for owning one.

It's a .22 LR.
How would I go about getting land off farmers? I'm sure they
wouldn't want someone calling to their door for permission

What i did to was to ask friends if any of them could put me in
touch with any land owners they knew, but that was many years
ago.Because its a .22 LR the land would need to be suitable for
using .22 LR not flat ground hilly land is best to give good
back stop for bullet, it also helps when your applying for a
rifle if you have had some experience in handling rifle and gun
safety when your local FAO calls, and you cant go out without a
person who is over 21 and has held a firearm cert for at least 3
years for your type of firearm, the length of time with
supervisor is 6 months.

Often the best method is to go round wrapping doors. That way
you get to speak face to face with the farmers and they can
gauge what type of person you are. We all had to do it at some
point. NI isn't exactly a big place, but it has a lot of
shooters. If you want to do vermin control you will need a
farmers/landowners/tenants signature for appropriate land.
Roughly what part of the country are you based? Eg- If you're in
Belfast or Lisburn you may find it difficult to get shooting
permission nearby. If you were in Fermanagh you would have no
end of potential permissions.
