first air rifle

Hello to you all was just wondering if I need a licence to hold
a air rifle to shoot targets not interested in hunting just fun
with the boys down the farm. We don't live on the farm but is
owned by friends and they have no worries about us shooting
targets . Also how do I go about applying for said permit if I
do need one and what sort of rifle is best to use many thanks

when you are applying for FAC best to put down on it for
sporting purpose and vermin control, even if it's only going to
be used for targets.
Regards which one the dearest you can afford if it's only for a
bit of fun target shooting a break barrel or under lever .22 or
17 would be sufficient, second hand guns are cheaper,depends
what you want to spend and how serious you want to get into
target shooting, guns range from £100 up to thousands.
Bring someone who has some knowledge of guns with you to
firearms dealer. I know they are going to change to an online
application form but don't know when someone on site will know
and reply i am sure.

I have shot the Weihrauch HW77 .22 in the past and found it to
be very accurate rifle and have also tried the carbine version
on a friends farm one burning question i have is how many
letters from framers do you require these days i remember one of
my brothers needing 3 or 4 letters to get a gun licence years
ago is this still the case

Letters of permission to shoot on land (see Form 30/40). You get
farmer to fill out this form its in the pack you get if you call
into P.S.N.I station ask them for FAC pack you only need one
permission. You also need two referees,a gun cabinet fitted to a
solid wall in house,cabinet and FAC charge about £200 then you
have to pay for gun, the hole process could take from 3 to 6
months.
