       Rifle ranges/clubs

Hi guys, I just recently bought my first rim fire rifle. Looking
a bit of advice regarding ranges/ clubs. My local gunshop is
going to bore sight my riflescope for me, but I would like to
take it to a range to sight it it properly and generally get a
feel for the rifle, before I take it out on one of my
permissions. I know there are a few clubs near me; annaginny, or
bracken seem to be closest, however I am finding it difficult to
get any info on them. Do you have to be a member of a club to
shoot there? Or can u show up and pay to shoot ur rifle there
for an hour or 2? Any help would be great.
       Thanks
       Paul

If your certificate states that you can use your rifle for
vermin control over lands that you have lawful authority to
shoot over, as well as saying that you may lawfully zero your
firearm on these lands, and it does not specify target shooting
on an approved range or ranges, then you will be in breach of
your certificate conditions if you take your firearm to a club
range to zero it or shoot targets with it. Even if you are a
member of a club, it must state on your licence that as a member
of 'such and such a club' you are permitted to zero and target
shoot on that clubs premises/ranges with your own firearm. So if
you join a club, it basically doesn't automatically give you
permission to use your firearm on their ranges.

My FAC states it is for sporting purposes and vermin control on
land I have permission to shoot over, however it also says the
firearm may be zeroed On these lands and "on approved ranges if
access to such ranges is lawful". I assume that means I can? So
if that's the case do I need to be a club member, just to come
down for a few hours to zero the rifle?

If it says approved ranges, then with the permission of the
range owner you will be permitted to zero your firearm on their
range. Some ranges will charge what they call an insurance fee
before they'll let you shoot if you aren't a member. If you
don't mind me asking, what's wrong that you can't zero your
       rifle on your permission?

The only suitable place to zero the rifle on my permission is on
top of small mountain. 9 times out of 10 it's quite windy up
there. The lower lying areas of my permission just Wundt have a
good flat area of 100m+ with no obstructions etc or livestock.
Thanks for your help much appreciated
